Open knowledge of all this has come about 50 years after this catholic child torture home closed. Is that not long enough. Another 30 years! Who led the investigation??? the pope. The children not killed or molested lived sad enough lives and now there will be few or any left at the end of the 30 years to learn the rest of the story. This should be transparent so these people can heal as much as they can before they die of old age. It is clear to me the details are so sad they are willing to push the access date out to where most are dead and or forgotten. Such a disrespect! I live about 55 miles from the Alamo in San Antonio, Texas. We love you folks and with this sad state of affairs I feel so badly for y'all. Best wishes!

Who else was there to take care of you all? Were there people waiting in line to make sure you were clothed and fed? I was an orphan too and I know how many didn’t care a bit what happened to ya. I’m sure ya had some bad experiences - as I did - but these nuns gave up their lives to take care of a lot of ungrateful people.

This is Ireland's "holocaust" The only consolation is that no crime of this magnitude goes unnoticed or unpunished. It goes way beyond the dictates of church or state. The Universal Law of Karma will take care of all those who inflicted cruel and neglectful abuse and fail to acknowledge what happened right up to the present day. The survivors for their part must move on with their gift of life and survival and be thankful that they can now share their stories with us, have our acknowledgment of their loss and our support for their future.

I was put into a covent in manchester the convent ofvthe good shepherd in blackley i went in when i was 12 in 1969 till 1974 i was lucky compared to the convent homes in ireland one or two were horrible but the rest were lovely i got an education went home once a mont for weekends and four weeks in the summer holidays and two weeks for christmas with my family but english laws are different to ireland i hope all thise involed in this get tge justice the deserve

What went on in that home is a fucking disgrace. Were they hoping, by sealing all records for 30 years that the poor souls affected would just forget and move on with their lives? Societies most vulnerable and this is how we treat them? DISGUSTING 😢

The Catholic Church had a lot to answer for! I had a child out of wedlock and she is my precious gift from god. This documentary broke my heart and I feel so sorry for those babies and their mothers 💔💔💔

My grandfather worked there as a young man before coming to America. I have not been inside the house in over 30 years when my cousin brought me through. It was in bad shape then so must be a wreck now...... Nothing haunted about it other than the Irish lives stolen to build the wealth these parasites stole....

Thank you for shining a light on these horrible practices. I well understand that with governmental resistance, and a mindset of "let's look forward, not back" (which just gets the hairs to stand up on the back of my neck)...that its enough to look at this one instance in Tuam. Correct me if I'm wrong...but I would suppose this was not the only "home" of its kind in Ireland, but merely one, in a whole network of facilities across the Country. And to my point...in order to not be dismissed, as in that first shown statement that "no access will be given to these records"....you will need a much larger coalition of people to pressure for change. It would certainly help if ALL locations where these places were run, could unite in order to pressure the government to be transparent, instead of clandestine. I wish you all, success in your endeavors....as you have Right on your side...as well as every last person negatively effected by this tragedy.

It wasn't only the Church. I was horrified when I was there that the attitude of people at that time were heartless against any girl who had sex outside of marriage.

i was in a home for girls managed by sisters of the good shepherd, some of the nuns seemed ok, but the one we had in our unit was a devil, so mean to all us poor confused teenage girls, she was completely ignorant or heartless how to look after teens
