Bluefish Catch and Cook, Is It A Trash Fish? | NJ Saltwater Fishing
Просмотров 4,2 тыс.Месяц назад
This weekend I caught a lot of fish. However, these fish are what most anglers consider "trash fish" or fish that are undesirable as table fare. The term is merely a matter of opinion because different people have different tastes and many people do in fact enjoy eating these species. In this video, I catch some bluefish, skate, and dogfish. At the end of the video, I fry up the bluefish and de...

Relaxing Fishing With a Bobber and Worms | NJ Freshwater Fishing
Tasty little fish. Usually can’t tell the bstrds are even on the line
I catch a ton of them on chicken thigh cubes. I usually put the chicken with a squid strip and catch weakfish, seabass, and fluke.
Gonna try some kingfish fishing this weekend. Thanks for reminding how fun is kingfish fishing is !
That it is, good luck out there!
Are you catching fish on the bay side or the ocean side? Just curious. I've always wanted to fish in IBSP, but one, it's far from me, and two, I don't know much about the area, so it's a little daunting to try new spots.
Ocean side! It can be daunting for sure especially when looking at the open ocean. IBSP is a great place to fish. Since it's far from you, you can scout out spots ahead of time. On Google maps use the satellite mode and look for the darker water in between waves. Mark those spots on your phone and when you arrive try them out. Then using the method of moving up or down the beach, you're sure to get on some fish. Also check the tides ahead of time to see when high and low will be. You never know when you'll find your new favorite spot!
I actually caught my biggest fluke ever there the other day. 25”
Wow that’s a nice fluke, congrats!
How do you prefer to catch Kingfish and what's your favorite way to cook them up? Let me know in the comments. Thanks for watching!
Amazing content as always. The hard work definitely shows!!
Thanks Steve, let's get out there and onto some fish soon!
Excellent video ......
Glad you enjoyed!
Great info thanks
Thanks for watching 👍
Well done! I got a few this weekend on LBI and also enjoyed a few blues off the beach working bunker pods.
I’ve heard some bluefish activity has picked up! Glad to hear you got on ‘em!
We target Gulf whiting (M. littoralis) here on the FL Gulf Coast. They get a bit larger than northern kingfish and fight well on light tackle. Like the kingfish, they are excellent table fare.
Thanks for sharing that! I agree they’re great to catch on light tackle.
The pomp of the north east??! :D
I’d say 😂
Great video. Especially the recipes. Very informative. Great work
Thanks, Pete, glad you found it informative!
Great video. I never knew Kingfish was whiteing. I ordered some merch and just received it. Very nice stuff and good quality.
Yup, just some regional terminology! Glad to hear the merch arrived and you are liking the quality. 👍
I just subbed, I like your style and format. You being a fellow Jersey angler helps too! I was just on a charter this weekend out of Belmar. It was a bluefish slaughter for me. I must've caught 30 blues, the most on the boat! My tranx broke, so I ended up using my "backup" reel, which was a bass reel on a light setup. I ended up giving away fish, and towards the end started catch and releasing. I kept 2 blues and 2 bonitas. I was definitely sore the next day!
Appreciate the kind words, that sounds like an insane day! Bluefish will definitely tire you out after catching that many since they fight so hard-especially on light tackle. Sorry to hear about your Tranx but I guess it was for a good reason!
I got into catching whitting for the first time fishing off Spring Maid pier in Myrtel Beach last March. They are a hoot to catch. Just using a simple dropper rig with cut shrimp. I had no idea they came so far north.
Yeah they’re interesting little fish and I agree, very fun to catch!
I enjoy your videos. They’re very informative.✌🏻
I appreciate that!
Nice one which shore was this?
Thanks! Jersey shore, ocean county.
your videos rock! the vibes are so chill and the background info and technique tips are so solid. thanks Sam!
Thanks Tucker, I appreciate the kind words!
You should try some freshwater fishing. There are a lot of good spots in middlesex county.
I do a lot of freshwater fishing, saltwater fishing is definitely my addiction though haha!
Maybe it's just the camera angle, but it looks like you were reeling in as the drag pulled out a good deal of the fight. That pains me to see because it puts a ton of twist in your line that makes for nasty tangles down the road. Also, you don't need to lift the fish up by its lip. That's real bad for its guts which are not well attached to its abdominal cavity. Nice outing!
Hey Joseph, yeah upon watching it back I definitely was and honestly had the drag really loose too because I didn’t want to break off. All a learning experience, thanks for the tips, tight lines!
Hit me up I want to going fishing with u
Nice catch
Thank you 👍!
this is my favorite place
Same!
Love this recipe! Definitely will try it! Thanks for sharing.
Hope you enjoy it if you give it a try!
Great content as always. Killing it out there Sam
Thanks Steve, always appreciate the comments! Hope you’re having a great season so far!
Going to make the drive this weekend and actually put in time to target some. Last trip was just casting in one area since it was a trip with the homies. If you see a sky blue wrx around Central Jersey, thats ya boy. If you ever wanna make shark content, hit me up. Got all the gear. Every year I go to Florida for it. Has the water been cooler than normal still? Also, dope merch man
Good luck out there, catch ‘em up! The water out front is definitely warming up again which is good. Thanks for watching!
Trash fish? In South Africa we target these as a delicacy!
I’m right there with you, I think it tastes great!
love the videos! by any chance do you know if youre able to fillet a fluke after its been frozen? I caught myself a nice keeper last week but froze it before I filleted it.
Glad to hear you got on a keeper! After a week being frozen it should still be fine. Thanks for watching!
Just had a feed of flounder the other day, breaded and shallow fried. I'm going to try your dish on the weekend, it looked amazing.
Nice, thats good to hear! Let me know what you think of the recipe, thanks for watching!
Great video! quick question, would I be able to fit a 32oz water bottle in the water holder on the waist pack?
I would say it depends on the bottle. It may be a tight squeeze but likely could, especially if its taller than it is wide. The jar I have in there now is 40oz but is a taller jar. So, I would think 32oz could fit! Sorry that's not a great answer but I hope it helps a little. Thank you for watching!
It’s been a slow fluke season especially for me sadly. Hoping it picks up as we head deep into summer.
I think once August rolls around the end of the season will pick up! Let's hope.
It has been rough... I've been in Ship Bottom at the house every weekend and I'm getting close to nothing. Last year I can't think of any session I didn't catch. This year, I'm getting skunked outfront on a regular basis. 2 weeks ago however, I did have a good kingfish bite. pulled out 6 and had amazing fish tacos.
Kingfish bite has really picked up, I got into some this past weekend too! Those fish tacos sound like a great way to cook them up. They're making up for the slow Fluking.
2 keepers thus far but many shorts and hits. Also while fishing light tackle for fluke caught 3 stripers.
No way, thats awesome to hear you've gotten into some striper recently!
I’m catching more fluke this season than I’ve ever caught but almost no keepers. Very weak season.
Numbers can be fun, but it can be a bummer when keepers are tough. Sorry to hear that but, I'm right there with you!
How's your Fluke season been? Let me know in the comments! Also, be sure to enter into the giveaway (linked in the description) to win a Striper Society Tee and Salty Sam Fishing hat!
not horrible, got a lot of teeners in barnegat my friend caught a 24 inch as well
@@rollinthraxx 24 inches is an impressive Fluke, nice!
Looks delicious!
It certainly was! Thank you, for your constant support!
Got myself a fluke yeah shirt! Great videos, keep em coming!
That's awesome to hear, thank you so much! I'm sure you'll rock the shirt.
Amazing video as always!
Glad you enjoyed!
Idk if you have had it but fluke ceviche is an awesome healthy and refreshing way to eat fluke. Plus it is really easy to make.
I actually haven't tried ceviche yet, but have seen some people make it. Would definitely give it a shot!
hah I was at that spot this afternoon, got skunked and swarmed by flies but that view of the lighthouse and the bay made up for it.
Love the positive attitude! Really can't beat those views.
Down there last week too...fished the beaches in holgate, very slow. There's a place Bowkers in holgate that sells this homemade green head spray, it works. Easy to make, she told me how to make it once.
Sorry to hear it was slow for you, but hopefully the later portion of this season things start to heat up! I usually use the Captain Ron's bug spray which works amazing, just happened to forget to put it on that day. I'll have to look into that home made green head spray though, those things are ferocious!
Haha I do the same thing. If they cough something up, I give it back to them upon release. The fluking on the south shore of Long Island has been really good for me. I got a bunch of 17 and 18 shorts last time out in the bay, but I did notice most of them were THICK like manhole covers. Lotta fun to catch.
The fish earned that meal, may as well let it have it 😂. I'm glad to hear you've been successful this season! Keep getting after 'em out there.
@@SaltySamFishing almost forgot my tip for dealing with those damn flies. I dont know why, but they only go for my feet and legs. I wear longer shorts and wade in until the water touches the shorts. Also, if the bite is slow, try more action, faster, more frequent twitches to get their attention.
@@nycfishchaser9458 yeah, not sure why they go for the legs! I was in the water to avoid them but just enough was out of it for them to attack lol!
Great video again as usual, wish I could get out there more!
Thank you, Danylo! Get out there when you can, I think the fishing will be picking up soon!
Great video Sam! Super professional too love it. Pro tip: wrap your GoPro in an old rag or tshirt with a rubber band. I have never had mine overheat after doing this. Even on 14 hour trips. I think the direct sunlight really heats up the camera more than the actual air temp. The fluke dish looked awesome too. Fishings been rough recently but i have high hopes for the back end of the season! Good luck man!
Dude, that's a great tip, thank you! I was splashing water over it all day to get it to cool down and it did nothing lol. I've got high hopes for the rest of the season too. I think once August rolls around it's going to really pick up. Thanks for watching!
Great video yet again.Im surprised you don't have more subscribers, your content is very informative and entertaining.
Thanks, Shane! Glad you found it informational.
Hello, beautiful image quality and realization. Bravo
Thank you, I appreciate that!
My season has been only shorts , up to 22 Fluke in a session but all shorsts .😢 Great video as always !
Right there with you on that, Vincent. It's been short central out there, but hey, at least there are fish being caught. Thanks for watching!
@@SaltySamFishing beats staying home !
Another outstanding video. Love the cooking segment. Keep em coming!
Thank you, got some more coming very soon!
Used to eat them when I was a kid. So much fun catching little snappers from the pier and going on night blue charters with my dad. My dad used to say “if blues were the size of sharks the ocean would be empty”
I like that saying because it couldn't be more true! That would make the ocean quite a scary place lol
