The whole notion poised about questioning the masculinity of the Male Ballet Dance in it self says SO MUCH MORE about the person asking the question ! They need to look inward and question themselves first . It's that damn toxic macho BS. The male ballet dancer, ( especially the elite class ) is perhaps the finest and strongest physical athlete in the world. the dedication it takes to get your body in that condition is mind-boggling. In fact, I am rather surprised it's not an Olympic sport . for anyone asking the question I highly suggest you go to the ballet and see for yourself but these magnificent creatures do on stage. They take your breath away.... They define gravity... All while making it look as difficult as simply breathing.
Good. Laura Spencer is like the rest of them. Open their mouths before they think. But she doesn’t have a brain…she’s a paid puppet to talk bad, evil about people
There are and have definitely been barriers and lots of discrimination against people of color in the arts and especially when it comes to dance forms like ballet. It’s an outright lie they’re trying to claim otherwise, and comparing class and race is not the same thing either.
Injury can break your heart, even if you are not a professional dancer. You must be strong in every way. Your body is your friend. It carries you through life. It desires healing. It works toward it. Embrace it. Partner with it. Food is medicine. Exercise stimulates longevity, but be careful with your "friend".
Ballet is a discipline that takes extreme dedication. It requires tremendous persistence to achieve mastery of your anatomy & mind. You have to love it. It's much more difficult than it looks, but if you have it in your heart you attain ultimate beauty.
Wasn't Mikhail Baryshnikov a good enough example of a male ballet star (and actor)? I guess she doesn't know greatness. He was one of a kind. This is a good example of how not to get your facts from the US News media!
I didn’t know that little Prince George does Ballett. But for a Future King, this is fantastic training. He will literally on a world stage for his entire life.
I am so tired of commentators giving their "opinion" about anything. They are there to report the news, not poke fun at people. That may be the American leaning, at present, to make fun, bully and denigrate things they do not understand (and it appears they do not understand a great deal), but I, for one, would like to see it stop.
The narrator is awfully ignorant ballet was created by a man ,a king no less, he sounds so surprised as if he has never heard of the greats Nureyev, Nijinsky Barrishnikov
You might say that men in ballet are considered "less manly"? Well not as far as their salaries go. Males make more than women in ballet because there are fewer of them so they're paid more to attract them. Men are also at company level more likely to become soloists and principals simply because most male roles ARE soloist and principals. Not saying they don't need talent skill and power but a male dancer is unlikely to spend his professional career in the corps de ballet. In no way am I disparaging the contribution of male dancers and I applaud the modern choreographers seeking to bring mens dance to the fore, and I love male pointe.....it's glorious, but let's not forget that they're ALL skilled and talented, males AND females and all deserve to be both applauded for their blood sweat and tears, but fairly recompensed too.
Super interesting and I'm only a quarter through. Definitely helps to get the message that male ballet dancing is an art and athletic pursuit of perfection and in no way should be a joke. Do we joke about Da Vinci? Male artists are just that. Sexuality isn't the issue ❤
Male ballet dancers have been historically underappreciated, unless you're talking about Nureyev or Barishnikov or if you're in Canada, Frank Augustyn. All you have to do is look at their incredible athleticism, their grace, their strength to get it. Ballet dancers have the most amazing legs too. I'm such a fan of ballet, I wish it I could see it live but I don't have that opportunity where I live sadly. PS Shout out to all the ballet class pianists!
How annoying! I don't know who made this but anyone who knows anything about ballet would know that Edward Villela wasn't just a magnificent dancer, he was a supreme athlete. And Mikael Baryschnikov? When people saw Nijinsky dance they thought he must have put springs in his dance shoes. My God, the world didn't begin when Gen Z was born. Didn't anyone do any research?
The most exciting dancers in the royal ballet are not english, havent been through the royal ballet school and come from cuba, spain and russia. The royal ballet is like inscest, awful. Prince george wouldnt be aloud to become a dancer even if he were talented and wanted to.And very very few retired dancers become teachers, choreographers,so called senior/ character artists....the institutions dont give a monkeys what happens to dancers when they are injured, too old.....the worst country being england.I wouldnt advice anyone to persue a carreer in ballet. And I was a successful one😂,but if I could do it all over again,NO!!!
Valentino is also the most brilliant choreographer…I watched a rehearsal clip of his ballet over and over again during lockdown. His choreography is musical and makes sense….and is simply beautiful.
I’ve already said this on another site today! But ballet dancers, male and female, are way tougher than football or rugby players. You never see a ballet dancer diving after being knocked into by another dancer! And their poor feet, they are destroyed way before they ever retire! ❤❤
It isn't correct. Nureyev isn't the greatest dancer of all time. Rather he is among the greatest dancers of all time. And what Nureyev has that most others don't is....temperament.
What wonderful work. What wonderful ability. I applaud those who practice continually. I studied piano for 25 years and am now studying the organ (am in my 70s). The only way to get ahead, to hone your ability is to practice without ceasing! Virgil Fox was an incredible organist. Although he had natural ability, he practiced almost unceasingly--sometimes up top to 18 hours a day. These men know how to succeed and become the very best!
My 2 sons, now in their 40s and retired, started ballet classes at age 3, worked hard for years and then became soloists in a professional company. One of them broke a bone in his hand as a child, a week before a big performance. I am an MD, and I took my son to see an orthopedics colleague who had worked for the San Francisco Ballet Company. He knew very well that if a ballet dancer is injured you must do everything possible to keep them dancing. He fashioned a splint to wear during ballet class, rehearsals and performances. My sons learned very young the saying that - “if ballet was any easier it would be called football”.
I enjoyed this so much, thanks to those who uploaded this video and all who participated in making it. Ballet is the hardest and most beautiful art form, all who dance are supreme athletes and artistes. HRH Catherine loves ballet as did George's beautiful Granny Diana, I hope he's still dancing and will do so for a long time!
what is this discussion about "masculinity", the rules we place on women and men on how to act and be in life is so old school. are there young people who even care anymore about this subject the way my generation did?
Ballet is absolutely wonderful. Professional dancers have an amazing body, well looked after. Just bones and strong beautiful muscles, no fat. I love the girl dancer's, but prefer male dancers, the strength and power is unbelievable beautiful. Strange how people have a negative view, obviously they don't know anything about the art. Their loss....
Alexander Gudonov, Adrian Paul, Patrick Swayze--three manly reasons to encourage boys and young men to study ballet; and if you need more reasons, add up the millions of women who have admired them.
When a boy takes ballet he’s an instant Prince. They also never forget that posture. They are more coordinated. Older men sometimes take a ballet class for stretching and relaxation or as part of a stage role training.
This is excellent, really shows how deeply loved & powerful the art form is.. I expected to just check it out briefly & was rivetted to the end. Very good.
That's ballet, a love affair between you and dance
Honestly I find Cesar Corrales much more exciting than Vadim. Is it only me?

Recruits for switch hitting😊
My friend Ronny joined the royal ballet in 1973

What I should have become xoxo
Americans always showing who they really are

An amazing art
They are simply amazing athletes, plus the grace of a dancer. They wear supporters, of course, like all athletes!
Women adore male ballet dancers. The physique and passion are incredible.

she does not seem particularly sincere in her apology.
And valentino needs to leave the stuffy royal ballet immediatley!!! Come to germany!!!!

Thanks very much for this beautiful documentary about unsung heroes who deserve all the praise. Such beauty!

Super!

The most surprising is that people can make such stupid comments after the movie Billy Elliot which treats the subject with such sensitivity.
IMHO ballet is the most hardcore, bada$$ sport.
It isn't correct. Nureyev isn't the greatest dancer of all time. Rather he is among the greatest dancers of all time. And what Nureyev has that most others don't is....temperament.
Amazing athletes! So strong with perfect control of every muscle.....they make it look easy.

What happened to Wayne sleep?
Lara Spencer, you absolute cow. I cannot believe you would be so small. And so blind.
My son wanted to be a ballet dancer but his sisters and his father stopped that ! He would not go after that
I would like to congratulate the parents of these men who supported their kids.

😅😅
Was a ballet dancer for 30 years. Hardest sport there is. Dated male dancers. Let's just say they have body awareness other men don't.
I remember being one of those girls drooling over Misha and Gregory Hines...😊❤😊

Wasn’t Knute Rockne who had his whole Notre Dame backfield take ballet lessons?
