Hi there! Here we talk about sewing and knitting our own clothes, we talk about things to make for your home, how to personalize your style, how to fit clothes to a larger body and a body that doesn't follow the "norm", and how to tailor make your own clothes. We also talk about upcycling and second hand, and there may be some larger projects in the future (teaser!) and some embroidery. This is not a channel for professional advice, even though I might sometimes have pro tips to share as well, it is a channel intended to inspire you to take the leap into making your own clothes, accessories and some favorite items for both yourself and your home. Be fearless! The absolute worst that can happen is you learn something, and that ain't half bad, right? :-)
Lovikka mittens - Easing back into making after moving | Old Swedish Design
It is time to get back to my regular content again, and this week I am easing back into making after moving with a pair of classic old Swedish design - the Lovikka mitten. I hope you'll enjoy it!
I found an English pattern for Lovikka mittens here. Please note that I have not tried this particular pattern myself, but I think it is pretty much the same pattern as the one I made:

Knitting an Autumn Leaves Hat | Making a wardrobe to love - for a larger body

I have been wanting to remake this hat for the longest time, in the Autumn Leaves yarn that I dye, and I decided now was the time. I saw this t-shirt a while ago, and instantly knew I had to have one of those. Not for the fit in the body, which I generally can't have. I have the shape of a barrel these days, and a tight t-shirt will inevitably roll or ride up, which is neither comfortable or looks good. No, I wanted it for the SLEEVES. Or rather, the large sized armholes. Because what I have found, having a larger body the...

Super ton vidéo j’ai teint de la fibre et e la laine en suivant ton modèle j’adore merci merci
Thank you, I am happy to hear that! 🙂
The coloured thread is so that you can identify what yarn you are dyeing. They don’t bleed and a good idea to keep till the end. I dye a lot of bfl silk and merino silk. The ties help me keep the two apart as they are so alike
I realized that later, yes. I just haven't seen it done like that before. 🙂

Thank you
You're welcome! 🙂
Glad you popped up on my feed!🎉
Thank you! I hope you will enjoy spending time with me. 🙂
Thank you for showing such clear instructions on how you dye yarn. I have been watching several others, and they make it sound so und so intimatdating and complicated. I look forward to trying some of your techniques.
I'm so happy to hear that - thank you! It was my intention to show exactly how it can be done, because there really isn't any mystery to it. I hope you have a lot of fun playing with yarns and dyes. 🙂
Your videos are amazing! I cannot wait to dye my first hanks! I’m over here making a supplies list!
Thank you, that is so sweet of you! I'm happy I could inspire you. Have fun with the dye pots! 🙂
Thank you
I wanted to dye black. I got charcoal. Do your video is just what I needed
I'm happy to hear that! Have fun dyeing! 🙂
Thank you for sharing. Are you making repeatable recipes? If you are, could you please show /teach how to make a dye book notes please. I tend to write word for word. Another question I don’t have pro chem fuschia etc will jacquard do if they make it. I do have landscape and some Dharma.
Ah, that is an interesting idea for a future video. For now, I can share that my notes are pretty much just bullet points, where I note what yarn I used, which dye and how much, how much water I used, and what technique I used. Technique can be i.e. that I added the dye to the water before adding the yarn, or that I used a teaspoon to sprinkle it over the yarn, or that I sprinkled dye by hand. In the webshop I have free downloadable dye sheets that might be of help, if you want to take a look at that. You can find them under 'Digital downloads' at anilovecreations.com. You can use any brand of color you like, and you can mix and match different brands, just make sure they are all acid dyes. Different brands do have different colors though, so a fuchsia color from one brand will not be identical with a fuchsia from a different brand, so you will have to just test and try until you find the combinations you are happy with. Start with small amounts of dye, and add on more as you go if you want a more vibrant and colorful result.
I have had terrible sciatica pain and was encouraged to get a pillow specifficaly for between my knees . I use it every night and even if I take naps. I am 74 years old and now have no pain and can walk and stand much better. Hope this might help you.

is the stove set to medium heat?
As soon as the water is closing in on boiling I turn the heat down enough for it to just stay hot. It is not supposed to boil or simmer, it should just be hot. The exact temperature may vary from stove to stove, so you need to just test what works best for yours. 🙂

@@anilovecreations Samma här.
I've watched quite a few people dye yarn and you are the only one who doesn't flip the yarn to put color on both sides. In this case, it looks like the yellow goes most of the way through but the green is only on top. How does that work out when working the yarn? Isn't the green uneven? Hahaha! And then as I'm typing this you go and flip the yarn, this is the first time I've seen you flip it. So what makes you flip some yarn and not flip others?
Haha! I sometimes flip it and sometimes don't, and it all just depends on what kind of effect/result I'm looking for. If I have a full pan of skeins and want to make sure there is color covering EVERYTHING I will always flip it, but if I want maybe just mostly speckles i.e. I might just twist the skeins slightly before putting them in the pan and just sprinkle dye on the top side. Since the yarn is then twisted, there will be speckles all around. So, it is simply a matter of what type of effect/result I'm looking for. 🙂
Wow, the colors look fantastic ❤😊
Thank you! ❤
It's so beautiful and the added straps and pockets are fabulous !!!😊
Thank you! I really love wearing it, it is so comfortable. 🙂
It's gorgeous!!!😊
Thank you! ❤
Been watching your videos over last couple of days. Really enjoy watching😊
I'm so happy to hear that! Thank you! 🙂
These colors are stunning❤
Thank you! ❤
Do you find only sprinkling one side of the yarn causes the hank to only have the color on one side? Most people I see dyeing flip the yarn over. With sprinkles you just wait till the one side has set before putting sprinkles on the other side.
You can use different techniques in order to get the amount of sprinkles you want spread evenly on the skein. You can flip the yarn, and you can also twist it slightly before putting it in the pan. I haven't really had any issues where I would get speckles only on one side, usually the strands in the skein aren't consistently stacked in a way that makes that happen. I find it more a matter of how much speckles you want, and if you want a skein that is really heavily speckled I would absolutely flip it too.
Wow, you make it look so easy
Oh, thank you! But it really isn't difficult at all. Just play around with it and see what happens, and don't pour in all the colors in vast amounts. 🙂
I’m watching this in Australia 🇦🇺
That is amazing. Australia is literally on the opposite side of the world from me, and having viewers all the way on the other side of the world is truly fascinating. I hope you enjoy my videos! 🙂
I found this very interesting
I'm happy to hear that! 🙂
Your knitting is amazing!!! And I have to admire that you made another shirred dress.!!! The fabric has a lovely drape, its looks great! I started one several yeas back and got too frustrated, ended up in the bin. :( Ohh, And just a tip when using a tape measure on curves: measure with the edge of the tape . It's not only easier, but more accurate. ( I learned that tip in the late 70's lol )
Thank you, that is so sweet of you! I did try measuring with the edge but laying the measuring tape flat, but you're right, it would probably be way easier if I used it on edge. Thank you for the tip! 🙂
I have to cheer you on in my head, because my husband is like "who the hell are you talking to" 😂
😂
Looks beautiful, did it turn out cheaper to make then to buy it already as a dress?
Well, that depends how you see it. Buying a shirred dress off the rack from one of the chains that sell what we would call "affordable clothes" would absolutely be cheaper if you add in the hours it took to make the one I made (and we all know why off the rack clothes can be so cheap...the people sewing them aren't getting paid what they ought to be). But this dress is custom made for my body, and to buy a custom made dress from a professional seamstress or tailor (who gets paid what they should for their time and skills) would be MUCH more expensive. I mostly can not find clothes off the rack that fits the body I inhabit today in a proper way, because the fashion industry is not built on the principle of there being clothes that fits everyone. It is built on the opposite - that we need to fit what is made. Which is the whole reason I started doing this. I aim to inspire others to not be afraid to try to make clothes for themselves, that are custom made for their bodies, because there are so many of us struggling to find clothes that actually fit well and are comfortable to wear. And because the fashion industry really needs to change, but let's not open that can of worms today. In short: Yes, you can find a shirred dress for cheaper. But no, you can not find a shirred dress custom made for your body that cost this little to make. 🙂
@@anilovecreations only asked cause I was thinking of trying to make my own cloths, I am a bigger girl with no breasts so trying to find anything that fits and isn't designed with big busted girls is difficult
@@anilovecreations here in Australia I am looking at $70 - $160 AUD for a dress you just made.
@@josparadiseofcolor I realize I was going off on a bit of rant before - sorry about that! It was not directed at you, I'm just very frustrated with the fashion industry as a whole. I have the exact same issue. Small bust, big everything else, and on top of that I'm short. Finding clothes that fit right off the rack is mostly impossible for me. I would absolutely recommend making your own clothes, because it is such a relief to have clothes that fit well and that you feel comfortable in. It's a game changer, you feel like a whole new person. As for cost, it would of course depend on the price of the fabric, and whether or not you want to calculate the cost of the time it takes you to make it. What I do is I have a list of things I want to make, and then I shop for fabrics for future projects when there are discounts to keep the cost down. I also buy second hand and I have recently started to look into buying leftover stocks online (I'll probably make a video about that in the future). That means I sometimes buy fabric for projects that won't be started for another year or more, but when I do start it, I already have the fabric at hand. Same thing for yarns, if I'm planning on buying yarn for a specific project.
@@josparadiseofcolor Then my dress is absolutely cheaper, if we only take the fabric, thread and shirring elastic into account. This particular fabric I got from Amazon (I don't usually buy fabric from there, but I wanted to test it to see if that would be a reasonable option), and I paid approx. $46 AUD for it.
Have you ever tried a turkey baster to add color to yarn when doing a hand painting project? I've seen it done but only once or twice.
I haven't, but you could absolutely do that too. I suspect one would have to be a little more careful when applying the dye, and just adding it slowly to the yarn so that the yarn has time to soak it all up in the places you want it to be, and not run into the sections where you don't want it. I might try this in the future. 🙂
Kan barnen studera på distans istället? Har inga andra tips.
Det är troligen så vi kommer få göra, ja.
@@anilovecreations OK. Hoppas det går bra.
