Tsunami tidal wave - Madhva Vijaya Saptaha Namaste A tsunami / tidal wave struck Puthige Mutt, Ratha Beedhi, Udupi, on August 1 from 3 p.m. to 4.30 p.m. during the Madhva Vijaya Saptaha organised by Taulava Madhwa Okkoota, Bengaluru, and those who were present in the mutt were very lucky and fortunate to be submerged. They did not want to come up at all. They were fully blessed by Lord Parashurama, the Big Boss of the Universe, and by Sri Madhwacharya, the greatest creation ever of Lord Narayana. Vidwan Dr. Shatavadhani Udupi Ramanatha Acharya is awesome, and that is an understatement. Knowledge flows from him like a tidal wave and you can dip into the wave a hundred times and feel a thrill every time. You get overawed. You assume you have stored in your brain whatever he said, but the very next moment he submerges you with more rare insights into the very essence of shastras, Tattvavada, the glory of Lord Vishnu, the majesty of Sri Madhvacharya, the incredible talent of Sri Narayana Panditacharya who wrote his biography, Madhva Vijaya, the sanctity of Udupi kshetra. It was all in Tulu language, the language of Sri Madhvacharya. Absolute delight. If you don't know Tulu, better learn it. There is music in the language, it has touched the heart of Sri Madhvacharya himself and his disciples of those times including Vishnu Theertha, Rama Theertha and Upendra Theertha, and flowed down to Sri Vadiraja and others. Sri Ramanatha Acharya said he was delivering a lecture in Tulu, his mother tongue, on Sri Madhvacharya and Madhva Vijaya for the first time, at the age of around 60. It should have been done earlier. Your mother tongue matters. Kannada for Kannadigas, Tamil for Tamilians, whatever. If Madhva siddhanta has not impacted Dakshina Kannada entirely, except some pockets, it is because supply of info was not in the correct language. Excerpts of Sri Ramanatha Acharya's pravachana: "Madhvaravi..." says a Madhva Vijaya shloka. Madhvacharya was and is like the sun, providing knowledge and brightness to those who came out and come out of the house and shell. Most of us stay indoors, not letting sun's rays to fall on our bare body. Hence our body and brain don't get charged to the desired extent. Madhyanika is not done at all and so you don't see the sun through the mudra of your palms and fingers. Evening sandhyavandana is never at the scheduled time and spot. So, you and your son are not bright like the sun. Sri Madhvacharya knew everything about Vedas and quoted the number of shakas (around 1,000) available. This info was not available even to Sayanacharya. Modern scholars like Narayanachar don't even refer to the info given by Sri Madhvacharya because they belong to a different sect and don't want Sri Madhva to get credit. Or they haven't read his works fully. Sri Madhva was the very embodiment of Vedas. People of his times wondered and exclaimed that he was Vyasa himself. Sri Madhva knew everything, asserted his knowledge. No quarter given. No, you are not God, you never become God. That's it. Don't quote fancy lines. You may impress the commoner, but it won't stand scrutiny. Sri Madhva whacked those who propounded wrong knowledge. It was like his previous avatara as Hanuman who killed eight crore rakshas with his bare hands. And that was kid stuff compared to his lord Sri Ramachandra. Gradation was and is evident. There is a reference to "Bhrigu kula tilaka..." in Madhva Vijaya. It is the land of Parashurama, i.e. Tulunadu. Sri Madhvacharya shone like his boss Sri Parashurama and was also dear to Lord Vedavyasa. There is lots to know about every incarnation of Lord Vishnu, especially the Dashavataras. Matsya is fun, happily swimming all around. Kurma is throwing up delight after delight, while resting calmly and securely and holding up the entire Universe. Varaha is protecting the land. At every step, we should thank Him. If we don't, landslides will occur. Narasimha is raw power...Parashurama strode across the land imperially and massacred wrongdoers who thought they could rule the land as they wished. We need Parashurama now and forever... Krishna is giving happiness to all...Buddha deludes the wicked and puts them in comatose state...Kalki is coming. You don't give a big piece of chapati to a hungry kid. The child will not be able to eat it properly, and won't even know how to cut it and will always mess it up and sit on the chapati and eat mud. The same with us. So, Sri Vedavyasa broke the massive Vedas into small pieces for us to digest. Even that was not enough. He sent Madhvacharya to simplify the digestion procedure. No other acharya handled the job better. Take it or leave it. Credit should be given wherever it is due. There is only one God, one Paramatma. He is Lord Vishnu. All devatas sing the praise of the deva and so get the respective post. Why can't the devatas be called God? No chance, because they dissolve during pralaya. If Vedas are eternal, what happens during pralaya and who will chant Vedas? Goddess Lakshmi does it ceaselessly. Only she and her husband are present during pralaya in their natural state. Sri Ramanatha Acharya promises to deliver more during the Madhva Vijaya Saptaha from August 1 to 7. Paryaya Puthige Swamiji Sri Sugunendra Theertha came for the inauguration in the midst of his busy schedule and said people generally have correct info only about Hanuman, not the other two roopas of Mukhyaprana. It is a tragedy. Swamiji wanted the glory of Madhvacharya spread across the world. Some Westerners knew the greatness of Madhvacharya and hailed him as a wonder of the world. We too can. And Bheema doesn't splurge on food alone. He is an intellectual too. Puthige Junior Swamiji Sri Sushreendra Theertha skipped a portion of his busy paata schedule and came rushing to the pravachana hall, eager to hear Sri Ramanathachar. He said language translates into mind and body language. If you speak English most of the time, you gradually imbibe the values of the land where English is the mother tongue. Kannada has its own flavour. In Tulunadu, for Taulavas, nectar should be supplied ideally in Tulu, the mother tongue of the land. Swamiji was mighty pleased that the discourse was in Tulu and said he will be attending the pravachana daily. A huge compliment for Sri Ramanatha Acharya. The pravachana is being held in memory of Sri K. Raghupathi Rao of Kaiyoor/Chennai who was in charge of ABMM there and was also working for Hotel Dasaprakash. Sri Ramanatha Acharya made a special mention of Sri Raghupathi Rao who had a will of iron and steel. He would organise discourses at Dharmaprakash choultry. If a scholar did not turn up, or if both scholar and audience were missing, he would chant Bhagavad Gita for close to two hours all alone, standing. His logic: the gods are listening. Sri Prasanna Achar, worldwide coordinator, Puthige Mutt, gave a nice intro. He said action is preferred to words. Don't talk rubbish about individuals or institutions. Mutts and temples need volunteers who deliver. Join the holy task, if possible. Swamijis and scholars are doing their best. We need to support them. A great scholar like Ramanatha Acharya is the need of the hour. Despite the heavy rains, a lady past sixty years of age came all the way from Suratkal to listen to the pravachana. Another pious lady in her 70s or 80s too was there. One pious soul wouldn't even sit on the chair. She preferred to sit on the floor and submerge in the flood of knowledge. S. Venkatesh Bhat
