Adam Buxton talks about interviewing Mark E Smith from The Fall 17.11.24 1416pm my thoughts on this, not knowing the ins and outs of it are: it seemed like he never got many visitors if you ask me. though i think the drunk trynna deck you every now and again would get kindda tedious... london? i thought you'd spliced some background of Salford over a Rawtenstall cellar-flat or something...(?) i enjoyed the vinyl justice skits from your show...

Maybe one day the English will come to terms that they often idolize total dickheads. There's no problem with liking/loving The Fall, seeing the creative uniqueness of Mark E Smith and at the same time avoid grovelling to horrible personalities because "oh so unique"

I think this might be a class issue… silly middle class ninnies being too needy and getting a reaction

Very interesting. As for him being rude, when does one get a chance to say such things to a man in a uniform and get away with it? I think he was just using the moment 😂Did he talk about BoC?

Firstly, thanks for this. Great stuff. No where near enough clips and too much preamble chat. And surely you must know he clealry likes you as he's having a good time with you and a good laugh. Maybe it's a class thing, but this kind of teasing is the way many working class blokes are. Certainly the ones I grew up with.

Mark was a very talented, uncompromising artist but had a long problem with alcohol which caused many members of his band to quit or be fired. But his work is- what is and will be important.

As a fan of his, you should have known that he was not a 'typical' musician. Did you really think he was going to join in? He sacked Mark Riley for dancing to the wrong song at a nightclub. Catatonia was my favourite Vinyl Justice and I still sometimes watch my Adam & Joe DVD with 'Game & Watch' inspired inlay. I know a few people who get drunk like Mr Smith (RIP). They're not being aggressive, they're just drunk and unpredictable and the class divide doesn't help. My wife (also middle-class) got really scared she first saw me and my mates getting drunk. I just saw the plastic bag bit and ok, that was a bit aggressive 😬 Poor Joe

I did not discover Mark until late in his Career He Reminds me a Lot of My Personal Hero Lou Reed They Both had Visions and Followed them regardless of what Critics, Fans, or the Recording Industry might Like or Dislike. Plus Neither Put up with BS form the "press" The one think about both Mark and Lou , No Body Liked them, You Loved Them or you did not Understand.

I remember seeing him in the 90s in Liverpool when he was doing a series of talks. I could barely understand what he was saying he slurred so much and he was very good a parting the Red Sea around the bar when he went to get a drink which he was doing a lot. I think the fall had split up at that point. Don’t meet ur heroes. Definitely don’t meet them if u like the fall

Adam Buxton talks about interviewing Mark E Smith from The Fall 17.11.24 1429pm i always thought he was funny. as i did the guitarist. this can be discerned especially on the totale's turns album... which i used to listen to pre-stardom.
