A step by step video of Grandma Dolores who is an expert on making delicious and thick tortillas. She does not measure the ingredients, she just eyeballs it. So I estimated the amounts for you. You might have to experiment on the amounts. To make approximately 2 dozen thick flour tortillas you will need a large bowl, flat cast iron pan, rolling pin, 2 kitchen towels and the following ingredient...

    I know you posted this a few years ago Cynthia but now it's 2018 and this video is exactly what my soul was crying out for today! Sometimes I don't know if I can make it from one day to the next but I always do somehow because I know the Lord is with me and watching over me as He will see me through and will never forsake me. He loves me and one day I will be with Him in Heaven. My home is not here on earth but in the Kingdom of Heaven for all eternity with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Amen!! :) <3 (Such a beautiful video with such beautiful background music)

      Emerald my dear. Thank you for responding. May our LORD bless you! PSALM 18:2 NIV The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. The Lord gave me this WORD and perhaps it is for YOU too: 1 Peter 3:14, 15 ... AND DO NOT FEAR THEIR INTIMIDATION, AND DO NOT BE TROUBLED, 15but sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, A synonym of the word sanctify is the word authorize. Emerald, let HIS word and HIS voice be louder than anyone else's.

    Great tutorial - thank you. Friends, don't be discouraged if you can't be this good the first time you try to make tortillas at home. It takes lots of tries and practice to achieve this level of skill. You have to learn to 1) mix and knead the dough, 2) make equal sized balls, 3) make the dough into the little disks, 4) roll them into circles, 5) get the pan to the correct temperature, 6) learn to place the tortilla on the comal, 7) know when to flip it, and 8) not burn it (or yourself) when you put it on the open flame. I think I'm more slow and stupid than most, because it took me a couple of dozen times to get the hang of it. It does take experience. However, when you taste a home-made tortilla, there is no doubt at all that its completely 100% worth your effort, because you will never again mistake a store-bought tortilla for the real thing. The smell, texture and taste of a homemade piece of heaven does not in the least resemble the pathetic, lifeless things the store labels as 'tortillas'.

    how long is your rolling pin? I want one like it!

    • @CynthiaMartinez-to4fy
      @CynthiaMartinez-to4fy 6 лет назад

      It is almost 9 inches long. This one has a diameter of 1". Best advice I can give you is to buy a 1 inch diameter hard wood dowel (or diameter of your choice) and have it cut it the length you prefer. The ones I have found at the store are too big for my hands. And make sure to sand the edges smooth. Have a great day!

      One reason is because my mother in law does it. Another reason is because the tortilla sometimes will puff up.

      to burn them a little so they taste bbq, actually it is to finish cooking them, or get them to puff daddy.

    Senora, you don't know how to make tortillas! you need shortening or lard as well.And you need to add boiling hot water...were you trying to impressvthe gringos in not adding shortening? ??

    To make them healthy. use oil instead of lard or shorthing, same amount. delete baking powder. make soft dough using rest of instructions. softest best tasting tortillas you will ever try. just try it you will not go back.

      +Rebel Heart She added the shortening after the dough ball is formed. You kneed the shortening into the ball. Shortening is softer than the hard lard.
