P90s v others - ASH “Goldfinger riff”
A shoot out that didn’t accomplish anything apart from had a lot of fun doing it! The Yamaha did sound different as it was a humbucker split but when full it sounded the same. How important are pickups if one is playing high gain most of the time?

I was about to purchase the boss waza air headphones it was blown away by the sound quality but I then realised that I am a big fan of the spark software and the fact I can use it as an interface for recording purposes. This is a simple unboxing of the Audio-Technica ATH-M30x studio headphones and a brief initial thoughts opinion after playing through my Spark 40.

One of my all time fave Cure songs especially the guitar intro. My junior kit guitar with a high output Oripure P90 pickup handles it quite well, me thinks. The kit from Pitbull Guitars. Keep on strumming! 😎🤟🏻
Junior P90 kit - was it worth it?

Got a body and neck from Pitbull Guitars and fitted affordable parts from IKN Music being Oripure 11.5k ohm P90, Fleor tuners and 500k pots. Did the 50s wiring as a test over the "modern" style. Tell me what you think? 26/11/24 - Pitbull Guitars are currently trying to finalize a sale of their business and this kit is discontinued. I think I got the last one! 😁 Pitbull guitars back in business ...

Just a brief extract of me having enormous fun with my Yamaha Pacifica 212 which I have upgraded with an Oripure PAF style Alnico 5 bridge humbucker and 2 Iron Gear single coil pick ups. The song is from Simple Minds 1982 amazing album of the same name with this tune being the most played when I was a spotty 16 year old.

This post is a follow on from my partscaster project, where I decided to mix it up a little bit and have a P90 in the bridge position, paired up with a Alnico 2 humbucker. The main purpose of this video is to promote a very simple wiring alternative for those who want to extract as much as they can out of their beloved T style guitars. The schematic for this wiring came from a fantastic Faceboo...

I love P90s, but I have to say the Tele style single coil held it's own for this example. It would be interesting to hear them in center switch position. Thanks for the demo.
Did you put 500k pots in the p90 modded tele or is it with 250k? (Doing this myself and don't want to have to change the pots)
@DevinSpagnola You should get away with leaving the existing 250k pots but I did go 500k in this instance as I wanted more clarity for the P90. They do prefer 500k. Good luck

sweet tone man!
Cheers man, played through my Spark 40!😮
After modding a korean squire with PAF in neck, started to build my own guitars, mostly reclaimed pine, and have now a double P90’s, mostly sort of Gibson sounding, as well as one with P90 in neck, and alnico 5 in bridge. Interesting fuller sounds out of them indeed, great guitars!
You literally buy a Tele for the unique bridge / neck lipstick pickup. P90's can go in any guitar you have lying around. Dont ruin your Telecaster with mods. The best thing about a Telecaster is it being a Tele. If you want the polar opposite, get an SG and a Tele and then just be happy.
@Harzurner - interesting comment ..... each to their own, I suppose.
Or cause you like the body style and scale length :)
@jesseoverlin4379 I'd say that more relates to the hot rodded Tele knock offs from LTD, Schecter and so on.
I have a 93 mexican telecaster with the single coils. I love it, but the neck pickup not as much. It's the o sound it gives off at higher frets on higher strings. I don't plan on changing the guitar because it was my first and I love it, but I plan on getting another and putting a p90 in it. It feels like they would blend together a bit better in the middle position with the clarity of the p90 rounding out the twang of the single coil a little bit.
@@Michaelangelokowski you won't regret it!

🎉🎉 Happy Birthday to you 🎉🎉
"it is!" *starts foaming at the mouth*
I bought this and it worked great for a year then broke. I got a new set and it lasted a week. No return on Amazon, no answer from Swiff Audio when I write them
Thanks for the demo. What amp you used ?
Hi, thanks for the feedback. The amp is a Spark 40 practice amp and recorded using a S10 phone. 👍
Hi Adey, I was inspired to do the same to my guitar as well! However, I've never made any pickup modifications like this before. Could you please explain the wiring that you did?
I replaced the 5 way switch with a 3 way. Left the existing bridge wiring setup with coil split on the tone pot, connected the P90 hot to the switch and that was pretty much it. Very simple. Good luck!
Hey Adey, do you recall if that Fleor P90 had only a single hot wire? I'm assuming I'll have to attach a ground wire to the metal backplate of the pickup?
The P90 has just the 2 wires, hot and ground. Well, actually it's one wire with the hot in the inner of the cable and the outer metal shielding is the ground. 👍
Wireless systems compress the audio signal so it can be transmitted efficiently. This compression can cause a loss of nuance and detail in the sound, resulting in a thinner or less natural tone. This is precisely what happens if you connect your guitar to any processor such as fractal, helix, etc. The sound becomes thinner and sounds squeaky.
Love your Ibanez axe mate.
May leave it to you when I croak! 😊
Nice one Adey, thnx ! :)
Thank you too!
What is the measurement unit of a 32-33 nut?
Can't beat those single coils ........If I wanted a P90 I would have bought an LP
Where did you buy the black pickguard and back cover from?
Aliexpress (the 112V is exact same). The back covers from a UK ebay site. I'll see if I can look them up.
Magnets, some wire, some plastic, metal casing and a a few screws. Probably < $20 in cost. Guitar pickups (Boutique Brands) must have a 500% markup. Way overpriced! That P90 sounds sweet!
Yeah, didn't break the bank on this one and i was very pleased with the result. Can't justify spending more than the guitar's worth on boutique pickups that my ears wouldn't "pick up" on! (pun intended!) 😝
Nice one Adey ;)
You can play very well
Very nice to
Why thank you!🙏
HIya Adey, I'm from the UK. Lovely job on the build. Only thing I would consider changing on any and all of my guitars is spending another $10 or so (not sure in AUS dollars) on a Tusq XL nut from Graphtech to finish it off perfectly so no tuning and string snagging issues. Not done a kit guitar yet but as an old guitar tech and retired road dog with bands, I have a cupboard full of necks and bodies ready to Dr Frankenstein a guitar when I get the time. I wish my grandson was into guitars as would get him a kit guitar as a present but it's not his thing. Such a great way to learn about how electric guitars works - especially on a tele or junior style simple style. Top work mate,
Yes, Tusq nuts are the mutts nuts! 🤣😂 (Can you tell I'm a Pommy in Aussie!) I've done a few builds to varying degrees and this build was on the easier side (electrically speaking) but I kept trying different methods to get the aged look I was after and I was pleased how it turned out. I hope you get to tinker with all your spare parts soon! 👍
Gibson used to make one similar called a "Marauder".
Whats the resistance of each pickup? Do yo recommend this pickups for high distortion?
8.5 and 14.8k ohms and yes they rock!
A nice one Adey! ***** ;)
I have 3 models: Lekato WS-60 (mono and stereo), Lekato A8, and Swiff Audio WS-50. WS-50 has the best stable connection, but unfortunately the transmitted sound quality is poor. Try playing music through , you will definitely hear that something is wrong.
My WS50 died a couple of months back (the receiver wouldn't hold charge) so I went for the WS70. Works great!
Is there any good locking tuners that fot the 212?
I would have gone for the grover locking tuners as fitted to the 612.
@@adey_baby witch one?
@@kaniniboi8533 sorry, I don’t know what model as i have not had reason to change the original tuners as they work fine for me. Google will be your best friend for this one matey! 👍🏻

I would like to know if there is some noise inside when I hold the transmitter and shake it? Is it because there is an antenna inside?😢
I'm sorry, I don't know what you mean? 🤷♂️
@@adey_baby I just bought it on the second hand market…
@@JD-zw7hi I still don't understand about the shaking bit? Does it connect to the amp ok?
@@adey_baby Ah ha, maybe my English is so bad, I mean when you shake this transmitter when it is not connected to anything, there will be some obvious, physical noise, I don't know if something is broken inside. Is this noise normal? Because there is an antenna inside the transmitter that will shake. Have you noticed this phenomenon on your device? Anyway, thank you very much for your reply.
@@JD-zw7hi no, no rattling noise from mine. I have since bought the later version SWIFF WS-70 as the 50 finally died on me (the receiver) after 2 years.
ah the title really made me think that you were going to play back in black on it good review though
hi whats the equivalent oripure into humbucker
Go to the IKN music website. They do PAF style humbuckers, hot 14k bridge humbuckers, Alnico 2 and 5. Lots to choose from, I have them all in my guitars. Good luck!
@@adey_baby ok one more thing which can scream into 80s shred solo, vintage guitar tone like neal schon vito bratta etc
It's like a double cut junior version of the gibson marauder. That has a single coil( not p90 ) in the bridge and a humbucker in the neck position.
I see where you're coming from!

Judging purely on looks alone, I'd say it was worth it.
Appreciate your comment. This project took a while to get off the ground having bought the kit in May (6 months previous) and I wasn’t sure how I was going to finish it but the vintage look has come out great! 👍
Great job
I like the way it looks
Thank you, I am happy with it. 👍
@@adey_baby Can you link the kit? I can't find it on the Pitbull site.
@@samizdat113 yeah, as I've said I think I got the last one!
@@adey_baby Ah. I missed that.
Just went to the site and got this message: "We have temporarily closed our online store whilst we negotiate the sale of this business. Thank you for your custom, loyalty, patience and understanding... you are all so freakin' awesome!"
Yeah, a shame but hopefully will resurrect bigger and better soon!
I went to the Pit Bull site. The model you have is not available and the business is up for sale ???
Yeah, I bought the body in May this year and as soon as I did, this model disappeared off the site. Didn't know at that time he was thinking of selling up. He has a good reputation and the business was doing well so hopefully it'll reincarnate better than before. Where are you located?
It is definitely a Gibson 65 model Melody Maker shape.
Nice Adey, thnx! ;)
Trick is matching the bridge pickup output. Roughly, considering same magnet types and wire gauge in the coils, about 20% more d.c. resistance on the bridge than the P90 neck. I've got a staple P90 in the neck at about 8.6K, I came up on 3 contenders for the bridge: SD Quarter pound, Fender Twisted Tele and the cheapest Fender Tele set, the Deluxe Drive. Hated the Q.P., Twisted was too mid heavy, Deluxe in a plastic bobbin with no baseplate won the day, total upset. Scooped mids, doesn't get swamped by the P90 in center position. And ou can still tell it'sTele
are the pickups microphonic?
Not at all, what makes you say that?
@@adey_baby That is amazing! I asked because some chinese pickups are microphonic, and on a video talking about chinese pickups (in a good way) they didn't mention if Oripure pickups were microphonic sorry the weird question lol
@@ricardog.s2505 I stumbled across this brand of Oripure by accident but now they are my go-to for a wide range of pickup types. All waxed potted, great sound and very affordable. Their cheaper brand, Fleor, are awesome too!

Excelente Oripure👏👏👏👏
Those Iron gear single coils sound a LOT thicker and importantly, warmer than the standard fitment.
Yeah, they are a huge improvement in the OEMs
Should have been a Trembucker (TB-4) for the Pacifica's string spacing. Have a look at your pole alignment. Identical string spaced WVS 50-6 bridge, the 612VII comes fitted with a TB-14. I've done humbucker mods on a 112V & 311H fitting TB-4 and TB-14 respectively. Nice mods on the single PUPs & and electronics.
I've actually just swapped out the JB for an enclosed A5 Oripure 14k Ohms humbucker and it's been a vast improvement. I haven't checked the pole alignment but you may have hit the nail on the head as to why it now sounds so much better. 👍
@@adey_baby "Vast improvement" in what respect? Even though OOTB they are just a 112V technically, I always thought the 212V beautiful aesthetically. Both good modding platforms, but if going to mod, the extra for the 212 is worth it IMV. Pricewise, in my country the 212V was pitched at a 30% premium over the 112V when I bought. I went for the 112V in the classic Old Violin Sunburst which looks traditionally elegant too. Haven't seen 212s in those beautiful bursts for a while. Only one I've seen available is in Translucent Black Flame Maple cap, and they're pretty thin in the ground.
