    Hi

  • @ryangalvatron4451

    I got a gargoyle about 2 weeks ago. I try not to bother him so he can acclimate. He is in a 12x12x18 set up. I change out his food every other day (I've actually seen him eat). I talk to him when I feed him and mist his enclosure. I'm trying to figure out the best way to get him to know me. He has eaten from my finger but if I go to grab him, of course he runs and he is jumpy. I don't want to stress him out or make him afraid of me and I'm also afraid of him jumping and getting hurt or escaping. Any tips?

    I’m just watching lots of videos on Gargoyles now that I got one today at a Reptile Expo! We are going to wait a bit before we start handling her, to let her settle in, she is an adult. And the breeders we got her from were super nice!

    My juvenile female named roxy loves to wander around in her enclosure. I turn the lights off in my room at night and let her have fun. I take her out actually at night to let her explore. I let her climb things, climb on me, sit on my elbow, etc. I keep a close eye on her at all times but I really think she loves exploring. I feed her pangea while holding her. I don't ever force her to be held or come out, if she tries to run away I say "okay girl not today". I handle her nightly. I don't harass her while she sleeps.. that's usually when she gets grumpy and bites if she does at all. As a juvenile I have her in a 10 gallon tank but I just ordered over 200 dollars for a 18x18x24 tall enclosure with some vines, hides, etc. for her to play and hide in. Love this little girl. She never bites me

    If you want to tame your gargoyle, crested, or leopard geckos, handling them for at least 5-10 minutes a day minimum will work better than once aweek, which will not get them used to you at all, and will keep them defensive and jumpy. Handling them too infrequenyly can stress them to lose their tails or to fast.

    • @cryrolfe

      Yes....I'm sure all very stressful. I typically get it all over with asap ( making sure she is alive, weighing, photographing etc...) and then leave them alone to settle in during quarantine.

    Are they quick runners? I’m afraid my gargoyle will jump off my hand and take off

    • @mooniemcmoonface3273
      @mooniemcmoonface3273 5 лет назад

      Not a gecko expert at all, but from what I can tell by watching this video, it looks like it could be pretty speedy if it feels the need to run from something. So, if it makes you feel for comfortable, keep a container that's at least twice as long as the gecko, in case of emergency.

    • @Mariofredx
      @Mariofredx 5 лет назад

      Wisdom is wise ok

    • @cryrolfe
      @cryrolfe 5 лет назад

      No....they are speedy but typically not runners so much. They do jump off so stay calm and just scoop them back up. Grabbing them from above can make them freak a bit and try to run. Practice over a large tub until you are more comfortable. You can also just add a towel in the bottom of your bathtub and practice over that. :)

    Mine is about 7 months old and I was told to handle it once a day to get it used to me, but after a family gathering when kids where pounding on the glass of its enclousre it has become very skittish and I cant even get it out of the enclosure without it peeing on me or such. I usually atm just let it 'smell'' my finger, or give it mashed fruit from my hand but it still runs and hides everytime I come close to it. What do I do? do I wait until he is grown up or do I force him out of the cage? its been months and he havent gotten better.

    • @cryrolfe
      @cryrolfe 5 лет назад

      Not all reptiles like to be held ...each has their own personality. I would only take it out for a couple min during the daytime and do a little hand walking. Maybe only do this once or twice a week. If you feel he’s not getting any better, maybe his temperment is the type that would prefer to be left alone. Good Luck!

  • @jaratt85
    @jaratt85 8 лет назад

    a gecko that's not an escape artist... what a novel concept.. I hatched out some house gecko eggs once that were a perk of buying a gecko at petsmart, ended up with 5 for the price of 1 after about 8 got loose during feeding.. Catching house gecko hatchlings when you are 6'10 is not easy at all, they are so tiny it's easy to accidentally squash them or, like what happened with the majority of the ones that got out, they are so fast that you just can't keep up with them and they are never seen again. (Having dark carpet in the room didn't help matters any) Interesting to see, haven't looked at a ton of places yet but LLLReptiles has them for $89 (for babies) so it seems like they are pretty cheap for a larger lizard species. (though their flame cresteds are only $35 so...)

    • @tailspinzgeckos4619
      @tailspinzgeckos4619 7 лет назад

      Yes....house geckos are SUPER FAST and not really for handling. :) I have a friend who has one that will walk onto his hand if he's really still but I'm sure they are hard to catch. Gargoyles are much slower :)
