My Grandfather John McDermott received some or all I don't know of the proceeds from the sale of The McDermott Castle in 1969. Lore has it that it was the equivalent of 50k in 1970...he proceeded to drink his windfall away to his death in 1973. No sharing with the family. Thanks Grandpa but bless your soul somehow...🙏

A nicely shot video, though there are a few factual inaccuracies in the description. For a start, the MacSweeneys didn't initially go to Ireland to fight for the O'Donnells, although they did end up being protectors, in-laws, and fosterers to the O'Donnells, who they fought both for and against. Unlike the other galloglass families, they chose who they would serve, which was the Scottish custom of military service, and this often depended on who their enemies were fighting for.

Was part of a group who visited the castle on the 7th of April 2022. First port of was toilets , on going to visit the disability toilet I was taken aback to find the door could not be closed as the lock was broken. Informed a receptionist of the problem I was told they were aware of it and it was going to be fixed. Upon enquiring as to the alternative was told there was another disability toilet in the men's toilet, upon inspection it proved to totally unsuited for anyone with disabilities. Two hours later the door on the original toilet door was still not fixed. There was thirty six in our group, not a big group, yet very heavy weather was made of trying to cope, it was one of the slowest queues I ever had the misfortune to be in. The walk from the reception area is a challenging walk for people of mature years with mobility difficulties. Is it not possible to have some mode of transport available for these people. Management badly need to wake up, get of your rear ends and start managing. Problems outlined should not happen, or would not happen if Management were doing their job.
