      So I believe in the uk you can start your pt qualifications at age 16, where you get the qualification doesn’t matter too much as long as it’s a level 3 personal training course. I done a 2 year college course and to be honest if you just want to do personal training, in my opinion it’s better to get certified in a few weeks by a fast tracked course like puregym’s pt academy 😁

    Some additional notes: Pretty much all compound leg training will improve your deadlift. I have pulled 226kg without deadlifting normally just because I have done differently posterior chain exercises to help with it. Such as: - Stiff Leg Deficit Deadlift w/chain - Front Squat - ATG Split Squat - Seated Good Morning w/chain - Barbell Rear Delt Row - Heavy Weighted Pull Up All of these built my deadlift without deadlifting normally, & a 226kg deadlift is respectable

    • @CoachFulton20
      @CoachFulton20 Месяц назад

      Yeah 100% agree, one need not deadlift at all to get a better deadlift, if you successively pr on squats, prs on deadlift are very likely to follow. but vice versa cannot be said. So for many trainees it can be more productive to invest in other lifts as long as some type of squat pattern and hinge pattern are performed within training, deadlift results can be expected.

    I'm contemplating trying Steve Shaw's newly released dynamic double progression version of his rep goal system to replace or blend with Sean Nalewanjy's dynamic double progression system. How would you compare their variations of progression?

    • @CoachFulton20
      @CoachFulton20 Месяц назад

      This is a really good question, I would say the difference is Steve shaw's (assuming you mean his minimum target system) is kinda back loaded the stopping qualifier to progression is hitting the minimum target across the sets and the point of whether you progress or not relies on the last set. Where as sean nalewanjy's is more front loaded it's driving progression from the first set and kinda takes the approach that first set matters most, that you should progress from there and the last sets are for just adding volume. I feel like Sean's is a quicker weight progression and the reasoning makes a lot of sense to push furthest on the set that you are freshest. whereas Steve's is testing more that staying power of the muscles across the set, the weight progression seems like a flatter curve, kinda slower and steadier by having that last set be the main factor but because of that the system will last longer without the hard plateaus that you encounter on programs that have you chasing progression as proactively as Sean's. TDLR: Sean Nals is a quicker progression but when you get stuck at a weight you'll stick hard, Steve's you'll progress slower but for longer ,plateaus will be less frequent and shorter. Sean Nals is a good system but if you've been on it for a long time I think the novelty of any progression change will kick start new growth. whatever system you do run I would recommend running as intended, blended systems can usually seem like a best of both worlds but end up the worst of both. For instance if you blended these progressions so you front and back loaded at the same time by going all out on progressing the first set you'd have all the drawbacks of going a little bit harder on your recovery from Seans and have the drawback of having a minimum qualifier on your last set which would make your progression slower like Steve's. TDLR: both are good, picking one or the other should serve you well, just down to your preference.

    • @anonbattler
      @anonbattler Месяц назад

      @@CoachFulton20 Thanks. I'm gonna try applying Steve Shaw's Max/AMRAP reps style to Sean's DDP. But if it's too much to recover from, I'll just switch to Steve's DDP.

    Thanks for the video, im from the uk and just qualified as a PT and was worried where to work. I had no idea if a leisure centre or general big box gym would be better. Is it possible to discuss this via email ? I'd love to hear your advice. Great video

    • @CoachFulton20
      @CoachFulton20 2 месяца назад

      @@gabm9376 thanks for watching, obviously I have to preface that this is just my experience in the field, so not financial advice and outcomes may vary. Generally leisure centres are: •cheaper monthly rent (think £250-350) • not as well equipped, not as well maintained • average gym goers are less likely to hire a pt but results vary •some pay you to clean the gym and do classes Generally Commercial gyms are: •more expensive per month (think £450-£650, or 12 hours free labour a week) •bigger pool of people likely to take pt (although all my clients were non gym members ) •Well equipped and well maintained environment I would encourage to check out your local options directly and get the information on the specifics from them as the in person comparison may make the decision for you. I think regardless the biggest thing that really makes the difference is not where you work as per say, but more constructing a solid sales plan to recruit clients, word of mouth is good but utilising social media can be a great approach, posting your services, testimonials and advice catered to the average beginner can really help your outreach. Making sure that who you are, what you do and how you approach training is clear to your potential clients. it’s key the approach you take is personal to you and invokes your ideal journey as a pt. as you progress It’s all about eventually finding who you want your typical client to be, they could be weight loss focussed, or mums looking to tone up after their first baby, or someone wanting to get huge for a bodybuilding show. Train as many different people with different goals as you can get, find who you like training the best and try cater towards them, gathering as many positive testimonials as you can get, you can never relax on your marketing as a pt, so always be searching and chasing for new leads. Persistence is the word 💪

    As the fellow already mentioned. Handstand push-ups will blow your overhead press up. Do them against a wooden door in a pair of socks. You will get a great slide going thanks to the socks on your feet. Daft but a top tip. The overhead press wa the lift until the bench press came along. The author Brooks Kubik found the lifting journals of a YMCA gym in the Bronx from the 1930s. Every lifter had at least a bodyweight overhead press and some guys had 160% bodyweight overhead presses. It used to be contested as an Olympic lift but was removed.

    • @CoachFulton20
      @CoachFulton20 4 месяца назад

      @@kevinhalligan5078 Definitely worth a try, I do wonder however if it’s a chicken or the egg type of question. Was the handstand push up a preferred accessory because options for accessory lifts were more limited compared to our modern day selection ? Were the results from that gym so much higher because lifting was a more niche culture with a much bigger pressing focus? However I love to look to the past for lifting wisdom and I absolutely think you shouldn’t knock something before you try it. I’ll definitely try this and record my results 💪

    • @CoachFulton20
      @CoachFulton20 4 месяца назад

      Yes this is the whole heart of the video it’s troubleshooting why someone hasn’t reached this milestone, anyone can achieve a 70kg overhead press, but most people I’ve seen IRL struggle beyond 40kg. Just doing a press with good technique and incorporating a variation should be enough for anyone. A 70kg ohp should be thought of in the same level as a 100kg bench, quite an achievable goal but I find the common perception to be that it’s thought of as more advanced than it actually is.

    • @Pastapillow
      @Pastapillow 4 месяца назад

      it's all relative. It's pretty good for someone that gyms imo. I think a 70kg overhead press is better than 99% of people at most gyms. it's still a year or three of hard work for most people depending where they start and their bodyweight. i started at an empty bar with overhead press 6-7 years ago. and i think 97.5kg with 100kg 1/2 locked out is the best i've hit. granted i don't really train the lift that much

      @@Pastapillow I will agree bodyweight does play a massive part in strength performance, a 60 kg male pressing 70kg is a different feat than a 110kg male pressing 70kg .I’ll be the first to admit that gaining weight is imperative to performance and holding back to keep impressive bodyweight ratios hampers progress.

  • @luisguilherme2403
    @luisguilherme2403 4 месяца назад

    Never done gym and (and mainly so) I don't know if you're talking about pressing 70kg on overhead press like lifting 70kg up or like most times I see lifters saying they, for instance, bench 40kg they actually mean more like bench 40+9+40 so almost 90kg, but my main training for shoulders were freestanding handstand pushups. Like I'm 70kg now and I can do deep handstand pushups shoulder to the bar so if we consider the arms not being fully loaded on the shoulder but on the ground/bar I'd be pressing about 60-65kg on that for about 10-15 reps a set. But possibly when you say 70kg in practicallity you refer to 150kg with the sum of all weights so I'm waaay below, and I'm not able to figure that out because of not being in the gym world and half way accross the globe. But still, everything you said was so well synthesized and I still believe, depending on the goal of the athlete, it may always be good to be multidisciplinary and try to incorporate calisthenic/gymnastic handstand pushups for gaining ease and evolving quickly on the overhead press, as it makes you very aware and coordinated throughout the movement and incentivizes the core engagement a lot, helping with balance and stability for a better execution and neuromuscular integration. Very nice job and keep up the good work!

I have run this program before with success and looking to get back into it. A couple things to note here that weren't mentioned in the video but are in the book, if you get 10 or more reps on your AMRAP sets you double the weight increment next time. Also weight increases are 1kg (2.5 pounds) for the upper body lifts and 2kg (5 pounds) for the lower body lifts. You do also still progress next time if you got 5 on your last set so 3x5, not only more than 5. If you get less than 5 then you deload 10% :)

    Really good advice, coach. "Cleaning your plate" is a big problem in western society, especially here in America (where portion sizes are gigantic). My family was poor when I was younger, and I was always told to eat until the plate was empty, instead of eating to fullness. It took a long time to get out of that mindset and even now in my late 20s, I have to remind myself that I don't have to stuff myself just to finish a plate. It's hard to unlearn even after you are in a place where you aren't in a place of low economic status anymore. Also, one thing I recommend to people is to spend some time at a maintenance phase (or just eating what they normally eat), but track your calories during that phase of a couple months. I think that most people have no idea how many calories are in most foods. For example, nuts like almonds are considered healthy, but a couple of handfuls in a day can completely eliminate a 300-500 calorie deficit. Spending some time where you aren't stressing over hitting a calorie goal but still learning the calorie composition of foods can be greatly beneficial, and now I am in a place where I can maintain and lose weight no problem by eyeballing my foods and recognizing the ballpark calories. Thanks for sharing these tips!

      @@Griffin_door Thanks for your comment, I think you absolutely nailed everything with this. I agree I’ve found by making people keep food diaries they surprise themselves at how much they are really consuming and end in a deficit just by being aware of intake 💪 thanks for the support and engaging with my channel 🙏

      @@CoachFulton20 but ronnie's lil high pitched voice will tell you his "physique" is due to his BCAAs and glutamine supplements. So buy them! Stack it all. FYI: every "fitness influencer" is lying to you, especially juiced up roidheads with barely any brain cells. So suuure, their "advise" is unmatched 🤣

    Such great advice! I love the tip of not drinking your calories. Smoothies seem great, but eating the foods themselves is best!

      Yeah for sure the liquid calories can catch up with you quickly. That’s why i’ll always choose eating an apple banana and strawberries over blending them up
