Capitalism is a wonderful thing and has afforded mankind the opportunity to become the kings and queens of their own domains. It is human nature and therefore a natural behavior of mankind. The father of Capitalism, Adam Smith, accurately expressed, "Man is an animal that makes bargains: no other animal does this - no dog exchanges bones with another". However! Capitalism became tainted by crony capitalism of which in fact gave rise to oligarchs. Crony capitalism is the reason for Communism. We find the same is true in today's democracies. Where capitalists lobby politicians to regulate societies for purpose of limiting competition. Democracy allows that kind of conduct. Democracy is flawed and uttered as of it gives rights to a majority but in fact does not and often manipulated by oligarchs. Republics are not democracies and rights are only found under republics. The best Examples of Crony Capitalism is Communists like Stalin and Nationalists like Hilter. Apartheid South Africa is perhaps the best case for oligarch mining industrial complex to flourish. Aparheid was more to do with a labor force than it was about racism, so that a few corporations could profit. Slavery is capitalism. Lastly we find it with Unions. These organizations capitalize on the vulnerability of people. Let's not forget the power they hold and that Hilter was a union boss.

This was such a great conversation to listen to. I miss the days of hearing both of you and your visions on a regular basis! I find it to be a real challenge to have meaningful discussions about AI with people in my current day to day life because of exactly what you hit on at the end. The Vision. People who are not versed in AI only get fed the fear and they can't imagine a positive outcome at all (in my experience). Trying to help people even entertain the possibility of a positive outcome is a real struggle. Not that I have the answers or the vision, obviously. But I have at least thought about it. Using scifi to help people even begin to imagine the future has been the only way I've had success here. I've started, just barely, a conversation on my RUclips channel about AI and I plan to do some more. I'm coming at it from the angle of "how a 57 year old grandma thinks and feels about AI today." I hope to make people who are fearful, or even just completely ambivalent about it start to see a future that is, as we say, abundant.
