Thanks for sharing your experience.
Pigtail all of your outlets. That tiny tab connecting the two outlets adds resistance and voltage drop. The contact resistance to the terminals adds resistance. It's just better and safer. Also don't cheap out and wire your outlets with 14 gauge...
@@court2379 that tab is equal to or greater than a 12 gauge wire.
Good standard work
Just touch it
Strap within 3' of the connection other than that. it's just preference
@@ayeitsshane806 nec358.30ex1 allows for 5 feet if there is not framing to secure to
I'm surprised anybody would have a problem with this, it just seems like the proper way to do it.
Just just more work to rewire if they want to move the water heater
A valid option. Professionals have many tools and solutions available to them that given the job site conditions, they can apply. Thanks
Thank you sir
Easier to move the conduit than the copper. I would have ran the conduit to the panel but i live in Chicago
The bigger one is neutral. Most plugs only fit one way. Outlets left side is bigger than the right. Right side is hot
@@JoeNathan42420 but this is about the wire
@ I know. Is the neutral not bigger than the hot?
No
I see a ton of your videos with scammy looking handyman page watermarks thrown over it. I'd email you if I could find it quickly but either privately or here could you tell me if you've given permission so I can try to help. I only see a couple decent electricians doing videos like this and I want to do anything I can to stop the click mill from stealing your mojo. Thank you for actually giving meaningful information to the new guys instead of hollering and being an idiot for the sake of clicks. I salute you
This is pretty much voodoo magic to someone who has never been taught but really its not a hard concept to grasp. Im no electrician but in certain applications turning on lights from 3 or more locations is amazing and adds a level of workmanship to the job. Good job on making this visual
I wired a water heater just yesterday exactly like this. PVC conduit but same idea. Looks great.
PVC belongs in the ground.
Looks very clean and proper
I mean... Obviously the tab is rated for whatever the outlet is rated for. Whoever is claiming you can't run it the way you do is clearly going off wrong information. If it's not a split receptacle, and you plugged a high amperage device into the outlet that had to go across that tab, then common sense tells you that the tab is rated for that amperage.
Always good info. Thank you.
Switched receptacle
I think you blew up my brain, gonna have to watch it again so i can short circuit my motherboard. If this is accurate my whole house is a death trap. Makes me wanna up my life ins.
Too often I see it without the connector on the top
Milwaukee fan boy box doesn't equal code hahaha
You run into 110V and 115V in older industrial plants. Some run at 440V, and you end up with 110V. And then some plants run at 460V, so you get 115V. And more commonly you get plants running at 480V, so you get 120V. The Navy and the base near me runs at 450V delta, so you get 113V. Each wire reading 56V to 'ground." They don't make up these lower voltages for no reason.
But I like drywall screws
Never justify quality to hacks.
The only reason people want to complain is because they can't be over paid sloppy lazy gorilla's
Oh for fucks sake. Its shit like this that make Electricians sound like primadona crybabies.
You to don't need to make uninstalling for the replacement easier but I could see an argument for allowing movement because it isn't permanently fixed to the floor. I'll follow up if I find an actual code when the kids let me have a 20 minute book search but in the spirit of code I think you could see it similar to requirements for flexible connections to a transformer. The appliance will expand and contract similar to a transformer vibrating. Careful or I'll have to write the code board to mess up your favorite clean install method haha. I like the specific thought in the unstripped Romex and use of the 5 foot exception. As a first year journeyman I lost a sorta similar code argument and the inspector gave me a "because I said so" and instead proved I couldn't strip the sheathing or run it in conduit as stripped wire outside like I did initially. I really need to code nerd some more I kinda miss the school days
Always hard pipe for electric man it looks way wa better lol I have that going to the ez control thing on my water heater it looks pretty nice lol then a little thing going to the RIBU2C for the hot water priority then going to the oil primary lol 👍🏻 simple I like it The way you did it is definitely the cleanest way I have seen lol Mine looks kinda funny I guess with the pipe going into the like middle of the water heater haha . Idk I like mine it’s creative . I didn’t do that
Always hard pipe for electric man it looks way wa better lol I have that going to the ez control thing on my water heater it looks pretty nice lol then a little thing going to the RIBU2C for the hot water priority then going to the oil primary lol 👍🏻 simple I like it
I would run the conduit down the wall, and bend over to the tank... A code violation on this install is i dont see any expansion tank...
You could also transition over to flex at the water heater, the plumber will thank you
Why would you want to strip it inside the conduit even if the code didn't say anything about it?
Yes, you do no more than Google. You have common sense
What’s the able for. ??? Grounding??
@@hyoga8340 what cable the one in the pipe? It feed power to the unit
@ Ohhhh it’s an electric heater. Got it. Thank you maestro!!!!!
That's why we don't use Boats no more
MC is a better choice as well especially on short runs. Kinda makes it look like you know what yer doin! ;)
I got boxes of long 6/32 and 8/32... But now, just for you I'm going to exclusively use drywall screws and T20 construction screws! 😅
I know a pet peeve when I see one 🤣
It may be the copper water pipe that makes it difficult to use
358.30(A) maybe incorporate a strap fastened onto the removable cover with strut or something? Maybe from above put a 2x4 next to the conduit and strap it?
@@thepeter3116 check out the exception 358.30ex1
@Stevenj120volts I like the excuse but I can imagine an inspector saying "readily permit fastening" in a shaming way as if you can't handle strapping within 36"
@@thepeter3116 this is not shaming or cheating it is the normal way of doing conduit. It not a rarely used exception. No inspector would fail. Done 99% of water heaters this way for last 29 years. No inspector has even mentioned it. And a Paul Abernathy reviewed my video to verify it was code. This was a lesson I tried to wire everything with an exception including the conduit fill
@thepeter3116 you can't add a box on the top or you trigger a different code rule regaeding fill and the conduit would have to increased from 1/2 to 3/4.
I used a flexible sealtite. Same idea
Although it's not enforced by the plumbing inspectors in my area it IS electrical code to not have an unconduited wire hanging down to the water heater.
I like pigtails, but your way with the screws doesn't bother me. As long as you're not feeding through with back stabs. 😂 my trailer home was done that way, and things got interesting. Lights flickering and dimming when turning on a vacuum cleaner, stuff like that.
Just please dont use ½", youre not gonna want those fill characteristics
@billrobert3226 cool you are ethe first one to bring it up.. I thought it was gonna be the biggest deal. So I think if you do the fill calculations I just barely sneak in. But chapter 9 table one note 2 says sleeves added for protection are no subject to fill restrictions. But yes using 3,/4 makes it right either way. But I was trying to wire using exceptions to promote the discussion around the rules
I prefer smiley face over dog butt myself
Instead of the 12 gauge, can a 14 be used for pigtailing to the outlet?
@@Sammy44111 no
Shouldn’t that outlet be a 20amp outlet if that’s the case ?
I understand that code allows it, but just my thought process, if it’s allowed then wouldn’t that be the same for the pigtail?
@@Sammy44111 a 15 amp receptacle is rated for a 20amp feed thru
Gotcha, didn’t realize that
I can’t stand people who argue the within sight rule! I worked at this apt complex and they wanted a switch on 32 furnaces because the contractor didn’t install one. The panel was literally a foot away!!! It was easy money, but so boring!
I ran into this, once. Clenched my jaw so hard, it split one of my incisors. The strange bit was, I have am underbite. My top and bottom teeth never touched... Before that day.
Not a code expert but I believe this would be illegal in California. Earthquake reasons. I don’t like the look of it however
