Brilliant interview! Seeing how much Matt has grown since he first started his channel is just so beautiful and inspiring (and let's be real, he already started out so strong!). Loved all the book recs here, thanks for sharing the fun :)))
@@esmayrosalyne thanks so much, it is always a joy to hear from you! So happy for Matt and his success and indeed he is awesome! Happy you liked some of the recs!
Currently reading Hall of Bones and loving every bit of it. Looking forward to the rest of the series
@@craighatto that makes me so happy to hear! Thanks for sharing! This amazing series definitely deserves more love! Hope you continue to enjoy it!
Great chat lads. I don't even think this is an interview, it's more like two friends gushing about their passions. I am really enjoying all the love in this community.
@@StorytellerRohan thanks so much for your comments/feedback! Exactly! It was more of two pals chatting about what we love than some formal interview! Matt is a treasure! We are blessed to have him! And yes writing community is the best!
What a great chat, Matt is a great dude and brings wonderous vibes.
@ryanskeff agreed! Matt is completely awesome! Thanks for watching & commenting! Happy you enjoyed the chat!
Looks awesome!
@@timhardieauthor thank you so much!
Very much looking forward to this!
Thanks so much Jarrod! I was excited to show it off! Hope you enjoy it when you read it!
Thank you so much @chibipoe ! Hope you like the cover!
Cannot wait!
25:34 timestamp for me thx
Thanks for commenting @billyalarie929! Yes, after you read SONGS OF THE MYSTERIES, please come back and enjoy the entire chat including the post-spoiler section.
This is a wonderful interview. Thank you for this.
@RoseGlitterfox thank you so much for watching, and for commenting/interacting here! It is always appreciated! Liudmila was a fabulous guest - that's always what makes an interview wonderful! All the best!
I recommend you change your channel name to "P.L. Stuart - The Drowned Kingdom Saga". I understand you want to promote your series, but a series name isn't very clickable as a channel. I was actually looking for you on RUclips, and kept ignoring 'The Drowned Kingdom Saga' because I assumed it was just a promotional channel for your book, not your actual channel.
Thanks for commenting @eustacetuberson4375! I appreciate the input. Always open to listening to advice, and considering it! Changed! Once again, thanks for the suggestion, and interacting.
@@plstuartthedrownedkingdomsaga You're mentioned in the currently top-trending r/Fantasy thread right now, along with a host of other BookTubers.
@@eustacetuberson4375 a fellow author literally messaged me, just moments before you did, to apprise me of this!! Frankly, I am amazed I was mentioned! Very humbling for my small channel! Thank you so much for letting me know as well! I truly appreciate it!
What a fabulous list! As a serial series starter, I feel your pain over not having too many completed and finished series to promote, oops. Love all your picks and honourable mentions here though! I really need to get into Jacob Sannox already. And allll the love for Tim Hardie, Krystle Matar and Zack Argyle's works! Also really need to get back to Edan asap, especially with such high praise! Some of my favourite indie series I've finished (that you haven't mentioned yet here) are The Book of Astea by Zammar Ahmer, The Aspect Part 1 by Mark Holloway, The Forging of Age duology by Tatiana Obey, The Keeper Chronicles by JA Andrews, The Ties That Bind by Rob J Hayes, and The Broken Gods by Aaron S. Jones!
Always so great to hear from you @esmayrosalyne! Thanks so much for commenting here! Those are some amazing series on your list, and in particular Book of Astea, Ties that Bind & Forging of Age are on my radar for this year or early next year! Thanks for the recs! Stay awesome as usual!
Another great round up of some incredible books. Thanks for featuring A Quiet Vengeance and The Brotherhood of the Eagle, PL, and for all your support generally. Looking forward to our deep dive into Brotherhood later this month!
My pleasure @timhardie502 ! You are a fabulous author! Can't wait for our discussion and to delve deeper into the world of BROTHERHOOD OF THE EAGLE with you & our guests later this month!
P.L.!!!! I didn’t know you had a booktube channel!!! Just subscribed, I excited to give The Drowned Kingdom a shot!!
@RowdyPlayer1 thank you so much for commenting, and for subscribing! I truly appreciate it! I've been enjoying your RUclips content! And I am honoured you plan to give A DROWNED KINGDOM a try! I hope you enjoy it whenever you get to it!
@ thank you for watching and you are very welcome! I really liked this video. I’m going to have to find some of these that you have on your list.
can’t get past illborn just blatantly featuring Anduril on the cover
Understood @landonweldy5468 . I presume it was a stock image used in the cover for a sword, and Anduril happened to be the one selected, but of course this is my speculation, not based on any knowledge. Not sure if the artist/author intended/was aware of the image being Andruil, if it was ever mentioned anywhere, I can't recall. That said, I do maintain I love Illborn & Daniel Jackon's books. Thanks so much for commenting/engaging here!
It's an incredible honor that The Edan Trilogy warranted a mention here, P.L. -- thank you so much for having read the trilogy and being so supportive. I cannot even begin to convey how grateful I am. In regard to not finishing all the indie series we would like to get to, I have a couple thoughts: It's actually true, I think, of traditionally published series as well. The truth is that there are so many great stories out there waiting for us, and most of us, in our eagerness to get to as many as possible, often fail to follow up by finishing series. That's why you're doing very well if even half of your readers of book one follow up and read book two. Too many books, too little time! Like you, I'm going to try to do better and finish more of the indie series I start -- including The Drowned Kingdom Saga! Many thanks!
The mention is more than deserved @PhilipChaseTheBestofFantasy ! Your series is my current fav Self-Pub Indie SFF series and I predict it will hold that title for quite some time! Thank you for the honour and pleasure of reading your work. I agree with you, same applied for traditionally published series - there's just so much to get to, sometimes it's hard to finish. Sadly, most of us started reading Indie SFF later in life, so a lot more catching up to do! I am humbled you plan to continue the DROWNED KINGDOM SAGA! I hope you enjoy the rest of the series - which of course, is another Indie Series that is not yet completed either, but God willing, by 2027!
Hi PL, bet this was difficult to do! TFatF is my favourite Fantasy series. I think The Bloodsworn is better written, but the emotional impact from the first series hit me harder and thats what lives in my mind. Reading is so personal, but I like hearing other people's opinions 😊
@@tracejefferson3169 thank you so much for your feedback! Yes, totally agree, reading is so personal! I completely see why you feel that way! I too love hearing the opinions of others! I never expected another series by Mr. Gwynne to replace TFatF in my heart but life is full of surprises! Happy reading, Truth & Courage!
@thedrownedkingdomsaga7847 Truth & Courage! :)
I'm very pleased to hear that you enjoyed Black Leopard, Red Wolf. I've grown to consider it to be one of the fantasy masterpieces of the 21st century alongside such books as American Gods and Perdido Street Station. Truly remarkable, trailblazing stuff. Also don't worry, I've thought a lot about this book (and its sequel) for a while now and even I don't fully know if I can comprehend everything Marlon James is going on about.
@@someokiedude9549 thanks peeps! Makes me feel better to hear that from you. You wrote an outstanding Goodreads review on the book. You captured the essence of the novel far more eloquently than I. Thanks for commenting!
I agree with you. It’s a masterpiece. ❤ Thank you for guiding me to read this one!
@Mizz_Minton, thanks so much for watching and commenting! It means a lot! So happy you feel that way about the book and my muddled thoughts when we first spoke about it did not turn you away! Be safe and well!
Fantastic interview! I somehow didn't realize you had a channel, PL! Everything I hear from you makes me more and more excited to read The Drowned Kingdom
@@NerdLevelRising thank you so much! Philip makes any interview fabulous ! Hope you enjoy A DROWNED KINGDOM if you get to it!
Ugh! I feel so bad I missed this live! Watching on replay and loving the chat. PL, you know I adored Drowned Kingdom & The Last of the Atalanteans. I'm on book 2 of Philip's series now and there are so many similarities between your two styles that I've been enjoying and noting. Can't wait to catch up on both series! Thanks for this great interview!

So sad I couldn’t join this live 😭 It was so lovely to meet Dyrk in Glasgow! A true pillar in the indie community :) I never knew he was an actor! How cool! Paternus has been on my TBR for an embarrassing amount of time…with both you and Beth signing off on it I’m very confident I’ll love it 🤩 Especially with the Folklore inspirations.

I haven't read Fionavar yet, but have read 9 books by Kay to date, and he has quickly become one of my favorite authors I've read. His strong narrative voice, his vivid settings, strong characters and incredible prose style just connect with me as a reader like no other. I hope you continue reading a lot of this author and I look forward to hearing your thoughts!
I have not read as much by Kay as you @RedFuryBooks but I certainly plan to read everything he writes. I plan to watch your reviews of his work, to hear your insights as well on this dynamic author! Like you, I believe he will end up being one of my favs! All the indications are there!
Great list PL! Looking forward to your thoughts on all that stuff. I'm feeling some major FOMO with Tad Williams. A big hole in my reading journey, ha.
@@thefantasythinker thanks so much! Ya me too that is why I am getting back to him - Tad Williams!
Looking good PL! 2024 was the year I discovered GGK and it has been such a pleasure. I loved Sailing to Sarantium and adored Lord of Emperors even more. I'm glad you enjoyed Finovar as well! I'm excited to get to that series!
Thank you peeps! I want to try and fit Lord of Emperors into my 2025 reading! I really hope you love Fionavar as much as I did if you get to it! I also am stoked to read your first book this year! And hopefully you'll do me the honour of coming on my channel for an interview once I've read it! All the best for a safe and prosperous 2025 my friend!
@thedrownedkingdomsaga7847 Oh man, I would be so honoured to have a chat, PL! I really must get my act together before then and read Drowned Kingdom books 3&4 I'm very keen to know what that Othrun has been up to!
Seems like you are setting yourself up for an incredibly strong start to the year!! I love seeing you branching out of your comfortzone, hope it will be rewarding for you. The Legend of Black Jack is not really LitRPG though, just more portal fantasy adventure with a lot of heart. And gooosh you are going to love the sequels to Empires of Dust, I inhaled that series this year, Anna's writing is just... on another level. Happy reading, P.L.! Wishing you all the best for the new year 🥰
Thanks so much for commenting Esmay! I am looking forward to Legend of Black Jack! Admittedly I don't know much about it, but hear great things. I also have VERY little knowledge about the LitRPG/progression fantasy sub-genres, but as I said, want to expand my horizons a bit. Yes, Anna's writing is sublime, so I am sure the entire series will be fabulous. Happy reading to you too, and may you have a safe and prosperous 2025! So blessed to know you!
@@plstuartthedrownedkingdomsaga Thanks so much, P.L.! I hope you know how much I treasure our friendship 🥰

My Spring TBR: «Sun Eater» 3-6: «Demon in White», «Kingdoms of Death», «Ashes of Men» & «Disquiet Gods» (+ the short stories) by Christopher Ruocchio (Space Opera) «Pompeii» by Robert Harris (Historical Fiction Thriller based on the days leading to the Eruption of Vesuvius, with inspiration from «Chinatown») «Menewood» by Nicola Griffith (Historical Fiction about an Anglo Saxon Nun and future Saint, sequel of «Hild») «Navola» by Paolo Bacigalupi (Political Fantasy inspired by Renaissance Italy & «The Godfather») «Pompeii» by Robert Harris (Historical Crime Fiction, set against the Destruction of Pompeii) «Women of Troy» by Pat Barker (Historical Fiction take on the Iliad, from the perspective of Achilles’ and Agamemnon’s «War Bride» Briseis) «The Crystal Cave» by Mary Stewart (Arthurian Fantasy from the perspective of Merlin) «The Wolf Den» by Elodie Harper (Historical Fiction set in the, eh, «Red Light District» of Ancient Pompeii😅) «The Bright Sword» by Lev Grossman (Arthurian Fantasy) «Augustus» by John Williams (Epistolary Historical Fiction about the Eponymous Roman Emperor’s Life) And I will at least start on the «Aspect Emperor» series by R. Scott Bakker (Epic Dark/Grimdark Fantasy, sequel series to «The Prince of Nothing») and «The Last King of Osten Ard» by Tad Williams (Sequel to «Memory, Sorrow & Thorn», Epic Fantasy) Cheers! 🙌
@MacScarfield: Nice blend of hist fic, sci fi, fantasy I get serious FOMO every time that someone who's reading tastes I love such as you mention Roucchio - such rave reviews about his stuff...maybe I'll get to it in 2026...really want to read it! Loving seeing the Bakker on the list...another series I REALLY need to continue - the first book blew me away! I too have to get back to Osten Ard...did the first 2 books and loved them. Happy Spring 2025 TBR and all the best for the New Year!
Yes, Gemmell, «Fury of the Gods» & «The Winter Road»! 😎🙌 In December I read: «The Power Broker» by Robert Caro (Political Biography/Investigative Journalism Classic, my Q4 long-read) «Dreaming the Eagle» («Boudica» #1) by Manda Scott (Historical Fiction about the Celtic British Queen and her Rebellion against the Romans) «Baudolino» by Umberto Eco (Historical Fantasy set during the Later Crusades on the border of Myth and History in 13th Century Europe and Middle East) «Dictator» (Cicero Trilogy #3) by Robert Harris (Historical Fiction about the Roman Politician Cicero) Currently reading: «City of Thieves» by David Benioff (Historical Fiction set during the WW2 Seige of Leningrad (Modern Day St. Petersburg)) Had hoped to get to «The Wall» (City of Victory Trilogy #3) by Adrian Goldsworthy (Historical Military Fiction set during the building of Hadrian’s Wall) as a New Year’s Eve MBR, but a fever (that is thankfully receding) has made that unlikely! 😅 My January TBR/MBR List: «After Rome» by Morgan Llywelyn (Historical Fiction set after the Roman Withdrawal from Britain) «Cort Adeler» by Ole Henrik Gjeruldsen (Historical Biography about the 17th Century Norwegian Mercenary and Highly Decorated Admiral for the Venetian Navy) «Anitra» by Hilde Susan Jægtnes (History Fiction, about an imagined granddaughter of the Composer Edvard Grieg living in Fascist Rome, torn between her creative dreams of creating a Grand Mythological Opera with the support of the totalitarian regime and her lesbian love for a Jewish musician) «Leviathan Falls» by James SA Corey («The Expanse» #9, Space Opera) «The Lion & the Sword» (90s Fantasy inspired by Alexander the Great’s Conquest of Greece) by Roberta Cray «The Children of Gods and Fighting Men» by Shauna Lawless (Historical Fantasy set in Viking Age Ireland) «Alamut» by Vladimir Bartol (Philosophical Historical Fiction, set among the Order of Assassins Sect during the Crusades, with parallels to the growth of Fascism in Bartol’s own 1930s) «Mannen som bar solen» («The Man Who Carried The Sun») by Kristian Bang Foss (Historical Fiction set in the Nordic Bronze Age) «Hengist» by Sean Poage (Historical Fiction Novella, set during the Anglo-Saxon Invasion of Britain) «All the Horses on Iceland» by Sarah Tolmie (Historical Fiction/Fantasy Novella about an Medieval Icelander’s Fantastical Journey to Central Asia) Collection of the writings of Seneca, the Roman Stoic Philosopher (and assassinated tutor of Emperor Nero) My February TBR/MBR: «Carthage Ascendant» by Mary Gentle (Book of Ash #2, Alt-Historical Military Fiction inspired by the Mercenary Wars of the Renaissance) «The Children of Gods & Fighting Men» by Shauna Lawless (Gael Song #1, Historical Fantasy set in Viking Age Ireland) «The Blood Dimmed Tide» by Stephen Aryan (Historical Fantasy inspired by the Mongol Conquest of Persia) «Firelord» by Parke Godwin (Arthurian Historical Fiction) My February TBR: «Informocracy» by Malka Older (Cyberpunk) «Brothers of the Wind» by Tad Williams (Prequel to «Memory, Sorrow & Thorn», Epic Fantasy) «Bloodstone» & «Dark Crusade» by Karl Edward Wagner (Both in the «Kane» series, S&S/Proto-Grimdark) «Lancelot» by Giles Kristian (Arthurian Fantasy/Historical Fiction)
Once I read FURY I will have read everything I think by Gwynne....the last book ruined me so I am thinking FURY will be even worse for bringing the pain with character deaths, etc. Travesty I have not yet really read Gemmell but will rectify that!
@ I read this year «Sword in the Storm» & «Midnight Falcon» (Rigante #1 & #2) by David Gemmell (Heroic Fantasy/S&S inspired by Celtic Britain and the Roman Invasions of Julius Ceasar, can be read as a two part novel or stand-alones): Easily the best character ensemble writer of this for me, you get humbled by the empathy and dignity Gemmell gave to even his minor characters or (some) antagonists, with incredible emotional callbacks!
Just got my hard copy of drowned kingdom for Christmas, hoping to read it next month!!
So honoured @zacharyshaye6111! Thank you so much for sharing! Hope you enjoy A DROWNED KINGDOM! All the best for the New Year!

Such a great chat, thanks PL for hosting! On the First Law adaption, I just really hope they capture the essence of the story. First Law is all about the vibes. It's about the humour, the sharp contrasts between dark and absurd. I worry they’re going to make it too serious, and if they do, it'll ruin it. But if Joe is involved, hopefully it'll be awesome
