Guys, I had the same issue: my MacBook Pro 2018 did not recognize the bootable USB thumb drive created by the TransMac app. I solved that problem. I'm not a Mac expert, but it seems like Intel Macs can't recognize all DMG images because you (and I, probably) wiped the whole Mac hard drive. So, the Mac can't understand that the DMG created a bootable disk. An Intel Mac is essentially a common PC with an Apple logo, and common PCs with UEFI recognize bootable drives with an EFI partition, which is created by programs like BalenaEtcher or Rufus when you burn an ISO image onto a USB stick. So, you need to convert BaseSystem.dmg (located near installESD in the same directory) to ISO format. Sorry, I usually use Linux, and modern Linux distros have a utility called "dmg2img." That program can convert it with this command: dmg2img -v -i /path/to/BaseSystem.dmg -o /path/to/output/catalina.iso. I think you can find a program similar to dmg2img for Windows or use WSL. After you convert it, burn the ISO image to a USB drive using BalenaEtcher, Rufus, or dd (it doesn’t really matter). Finally, after you plug your drive into the Mac, you will see the boot option, and it should work fine. I hope this helps someone.

I used Tiny Ten and 7Zip. When extracting I got different folders then you. It made the ESD.dmg though. So after making the drive and putting it in my Macbook Pro ( mid 2010 ) it was not bootable.

I completed the programming per the first part. The mac mini I am working on . Before and after, the apple and bar go to the half way mark and then the screen goes black and it says no signal! This was a repaired unit and I do not know about the hard drive except that if it is disconnected, the computer continues running(fan) but nothing show on the screen. I have re-dun this flash drive 4 times with no change. Any suggestions? Thanks
