Kalep Arafura,.They used to come every year to fish n dry trepang.Always got on good with Yolngu ppl.Bought Tamarind,Yolngu has a dance resembling sunnah bowing for prayer!.The British colonialls stopped the visits in about 1900.Some Aboringinies went up to Ujung Padang with the fishermen, some stayed! They must have liked nasi dan mee makan!
Some explanation of the lyrics penned by Mandawuy Yunupingu: *Prau = Indonesian sailing vessel ('perahu' in Indonesian) *'Smoke' refers to the smoking of sea cucumber. Macassans often worked with Indigenous Australians to gather sea cucumber and preserved it by smoking it in camps along the shore before it was shipped off and sold as a delicacy in China. *'Steel' is a reference to the metal products like axes and nails that Macassans traded with Indigenous Australians.
Macassan is a term used to describe Muslim sailors who traded with the Indigenous folk on Australia's northern coast from about 1600 until Christian Europeans imposed a white Australia policy in around 1900. The Macassans were not just from the Sulawesi port of Makassar, but also came from other parts of the Indonesian archipelago. They introduced Islam, metal and tamarind trees to Arnhem Land before European settlement of NT. They developed Austraia's 1st export trade - smoked sea cucumber.

Cathy Ticehurst Ummh hard question, so they can not enslave, or take someone's else resources? That is a hard one man.
