You mentioned Silk Route. It has a separate entrance and you dont have to go thru the hassle you went through. It has separate check in and immigration, and you get VIP treatment. Free for Sri Lanka airways business class passengers and others can buy this for about $125. You can search about this service on line and would have written a more positive review if you went through that route. There are hardly any countries a Sri Lankan can travel without a visa and I think they have to spend time checking visas at airline check in and immigration which takes time as it is same line in immigration for SL passport holders as well as foreign passport holders. You can get a porter for about $5 to navigate through the chaos and get to the airline check in counter. The entire departure process is chaotic and needs a lot of improvement. The existing terminal is over crowded and they are in the process of constructing a new passenger terminal which is waybbehind schedule because of the economic crisis.

Anything state run in SL is a disaster Immigration in SL is well known for being borderline rude and uninviting but the government keep asking people to visit SL Basically state service in SL in dire need of young blood but currently occupied by people that shouldn't be working

From my research I think no matter what you have to recheck your bag if you're coming from international and connecting to USA. I've done an international flight that connected in Canada and they automatically sent my bag to the connecting plane. I should fly out of Canada from now on because this seems like it can be a hassle and very likely miss your flight.

Well this an airport where you definitely need to arrive 3 to 4 hours before your flight.

I understand I’ll be going thru immigration, do I have to go get my claim luggage then head to immigration? There are counters for companies that offer transportation after you pass customs and you went to one of them. They have individuals that operate vehicles under them and that guy was trying to find that individual. The price quoted to you for Colombo is reasonable. You should have got a receipt after you paid money. It is advisable to not get taxis outside the airport terminal as you can get scammed. Phone companies have booths in the area where transportation companies have counters where you can get a SIM. Not sure if they offer esim. You can buy a esim online before you come to SL but charges will be higher than getting a SIM in Sri Lanka

Our immigration officers never smile or greet passengers in and out.That's what this foreigner also says.New government needs to change this bad attitude.

The buses are there because aerotrain is not available. It will be up in Jan 2025 after more than a year.
