This is great!!! Thank you ! 🛳️🛳️ I was on the QEII 🛳️sailing from Southampton to New York during Hurricane Gloria. 🌊 🌀 We actually were caught in the eye of the storm, which was unbelievable…we heard the wind, the waves were so loud and then the eeriest silence ! We sailed right through the storm. 35 foot waves, crushing several areas on the top. the ship’s restaurants were dual class, the first class on top and second floors below, and during the storm, the lower restaurant became flooded and in first class, the waiters put damp tablecloths on our tables so our dishes, glasses etc wouldn’t slip. !!! The plus side , in first class we were given all the caviar we could eat, shrimp, steak , champagne flowed. It was amazing. And everyone working on the ship, although we could tell were terrified like we were, were so attentive and helpful. I took videos and hope to find them. It was years ago. I was in a suite on the highest floor, I think 11th, or maybe one below the top. When our ship was dipping due to the waves of the hurricane, our deck was at the same level as the waves 😳😳😳 I held on to doors, the built in desk, anything to keep from falling into the ocean. It was so scary. Apparently the ship did not have stabilizers. And later we all learned, the same ship was used during Desert Storm…with stabilizers! I sat with Florence Shubert, who took me under her wing. She actually lived on the ship for months at a time. (Which I thought was the coolest thing!)

Always fun to see these “in period” videos. A different time as they say.

Now this is a surprise, but definitely a welcome one. Whether it's Bridgehampton or Sunnyside yard, I enjoy your content's lense back into history. Good to see you're still uploading!

How about the old turn table by the engine house

In retrospect it's amazing to think that double block "behind" the Post Office never got built over until the 2010s. Every time I go into Penn Station, even now, I expect to break into daylight for that one block between 10th and 9th Avenues. No matter how many times it doesn't happen, I still expect it to happen on the next trip. Memory is a funny thing.

Brought back memories,worked at Sunnyside 1973 to 1979.Have pictures of my own.Worked on 100 series MU’s then the new GE 500’s.Had a great time working there but Amtrak did not look like a long time good retirement decision.Have the belt buckle they gave me when Amtrak-Conrail came into existence.

apparently the cutoff was demolished/abandoned back in 2017, I get the double tracked part was in the way of the LIRR Yard extension at Sunnyside, but what about the single tracked portion, why was it it abandoned?

I'm a retired MNRR GCT Yard Engineer. I loved the yard moves and my GCT crew. I miss it. I even got qualified in Penn and the Hells gate to run the Meadowlands football train. I've been on those Amtrak FL9s, we had them in GCT 1n 1980 for the Empire. Great video!

I was 13 years old and living in Westbury. I was so excited to get the day off school. I remember watching my dad tape up all the windows. I also remember playing with my friends outside during the eye of the storm (and when it was over).

I always come back to re-watch most of your train content, and some of the other content too. It is fascinating to look at the changes in landscape and the prep work of east side access then, and now. Also, that tower looks super cozy haha. Some awesome photos and things in there. I have to imagine you have additional footage you haven’t released yet?
