The more I think about this video the more absurd it appears. Comparing Trump, a white male billionaire with a recored of raciest statements, to some inner-city black kid who was the victim of racial profiling by the cops is a travesty. On top of all that just have a look at New York Attorney General Letitia James. Have you noticed? She's black! Do you really think either of "The Blacks", Trump also refers to them with ownership as "my african americans", realize that Trump is a rich white dude with planes and gold toilets, who is not using a public defender--like they do; has not been beaten up and handcuffed--like they are; has the best lawyers money can buy that he doesn't have to pay for--they have no real lawyer and often plead; was not charged having anything to do with his race--he's a rich white man, he is not racially profiled--as they are; can essentially make fun of the judge and court officials--if they speak out of turn, they get more time in prison; has almost half of the country behind him--most of the country sees "The Blacks" as societal savages. Even Trump smirks at the idea they believe he is like them selling t-shirts, that they became like him since his charges/arrests, but weren't like him before that.. It's just amazing how "The Blacks" like these are completely clueless....or are they? But do you think either one of “The Blacks”, his “african americans” wearing his tshirts, said to themselves he has finally acknowledged the disparity and discrimination in America that profiles and targets Black folks? As a black man and a veteran, I served for that very right to remain in force. What I'd push back on is the feeling that you can speak for us because you are one of us. I like to think that we can stand together when we stand for what's right. It's why we celebrate the legacies of men such as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Congressman John Lewis. By that same token, I'd ask you to be more careful when attempting to harness the power behind such solidarity. The magnification of the previously mentioned men's voices throughout our similar, but not static, collective consciousness was earned. Both men, and many others, exhibited the willingness to die for their convictions, and they were rewarded with near unanimous acknowledgement of their actions. They did so as leaders, while following only in service to others. To sit in front of a camera and broadcast the implied sentiment that former president Trump might not be that far off when he insinuates that black would be on the mark if they were to decide to follow him because he somehow embodies, by proxy, their yearning to be freed from the oppression of disproportionate criminal sentencing is at best fallacious and at worst dangerous. Trump is a man who not only has enjoyed near lifelong teflon legal status, but who also is documented as offering no apologies for accusatory comments made about the young black men known as the Central Park Five, even after they were later exonerated.
