When I got out of the army, I came home and my father had 4 of these boats in his car port. They were from about 1972-76 and a joy to drive. Working on these beasts is a job for an expert, they are a horrible mix of older electronics,vacuum hoses and hydraulics. This man is a joy to see as he is sharp and active. It's because he had a low drama life doing what he wanted to do. Great video Fletch, Cheers.

I believe that’s an AP6, not an AP5, as Fletch called it. Could only be better if it was an R series with a Ruby Red interior. Nice resto.

PD-4501 did come originally with two 4-71 Detroit Diesels. BUT they were connect by a fluid coupling to a 3 speed main transmission with 2 speed rear axle. The driver's had a hard time with the 3x2 transmission setup was the main reason they eliminated this. Although, on the flat, one of the engines could be shut down for maximum fuel economy. The replacement of 8V-71N and 4 speed manual was a much easier setup to drive and was about 1,000lbs lighter.
