Wow! I was so interested in one of the replies that I looked up old footage. How can one choose? Also, times change - Vladimir Vasiliev was superb. You can’t say anything more than yet. I was surprised with Barishnikov but someone pointed out he was very young. I was blown away by Vladimir - but - this one brings that something extra . I can’t pin what it is , just accept you’re in the presence of brilliance. Is he still dancing. Bribe seen him partnered with Natalia - now, there’s a dance match made in heaven. I know they’ve ‘moved on’, I’m just commenting on their stage presence. Thank you. This was/is superb 🙏🙏🙏 from Australia . January 2020

2017 this is the type excellence that will peak the youths interest in ballet. Ivan is a jewel, I am so sick of people focusing on his height, this man doesn't need height floats in the air and lands beautifully, he is the definition of a classical ballet dancer, none are alike, Ivan has a manly build, other men are more lanky but that doesn't mean they have better form, some males are short with long legs, Ivan is the same height as they but he has short legs, however that does not negate the fact that his dancing is breathtaking and beautiful not to mention he is a great partner with his ballerinas, so why not stop being unnecessarily critical and enjoy this classical jewel, he will be in the record books for decades to come that's for sure.

Good jumper. Dances Basil like he dances, or rather jumps, everything else. Here he has something resembling a line because it's still early days and he wears black tights. Tempo slowed down almost beyond recognition. Why? Nobody died...

yes misha (saw him many times live in his prime ) has better proportion ivan has short legs .also vladimir vasiliev was not tall more or less 172 but his good proportions made him look magnificent on stage .nureyev was more or less like me 174 .saw all them very close.

I see. So Ivan Vasiliev is just a little taller than Mikhail Baryshnikov. I think what gives me the impression that Baryshnikov had a more classical line was his "more classical" proportions, and I mean specifically, his shorter torso and longer legs. Ivan Vasiliev may be taller in total, but his legs look short compared to the rest of his body. No question at all, he is absolutely brilliant and powerful, but his short legs rob him of that classical look that Baryshnikov had.

ivan is not so short he is around 176 cm misha was around 1'69.ivan is a great dancer ,but the greatest remains vladimir vasiliev misha and yuri soloviev.

AGREED!! Misha is my all time fav dancer but Vasiliev occupies my #2 slot. His Spartacus is unmatched!!! I very much love Hideo as well.

@CobraGoo l saw all the great maledancers since early 70's till nowadays,the only one l never saw live was yuri soloviev ,the only one probabily at the same level of volodia vasiliev.ivan is simply fantastic,but volodia was far superior belive me.you are welcome regards enrico.

Ballet dancers like him are athletes and should be called Athletic Primer Danseurs. This dancer dance similar to Edward Villella.

@stodolahumno Wow--that's like comparing day and night. They are so different physically and stylistically that you can't make a real comparison. I personally prefer Corella's nimbleness and ability to stay in the air, but I'm always dumbstruck by the power and resoluteness of Vasiliev.

@stodolahumno Why does it matter who is more precise or better? They are both different? There is nothing unprecise about his dancing ... he lands everything ... he just has a different style ... Neither is better or worse just different .

I have seen much better than this. Check out Angel Corella he is much more precise than Vasiliev.

Very impressive. But I still prefer Mikhail Baryshnikov in this solo. He was every bit as athletic and daring as Vasiliev but had the benefit of having more turnout and a more classical line. His Don Q solo has been preserved for all eternity in the 1977 movie, “The Turning Point”. Anybody who is impressed with Vasiliev in this will appreciate Baryshnikov for his similar short stature and explosive technique but paired with a more classically proportioned body and an unmatched amplitude.
