I have an archeologist friend, and yeah, that's a thing in the US too. A lot work for city government and do still have to clear sites for construction. We may not have the buried Roman baths, but we do have a lot of Native American sites. And dinosaur bones. Though I've also heard it's more profitable to be in the private sector and then do contractor work for the government, or builders who pay you to meet the government regulation. Also, garbage people (like waste management, not like "garbage people") make pretty good salaries. I read about a garbage man who was sad women wouldn't date him because they looked down on the profession. But he was making at least 6 figures.

My husband doesn't lock doors and it drives me CRAZY. I always have to lock them, and it isn't like we live in the best neighborhood in the world.
