The Salty Trainspotter
Великобритания
Добавлен 24 янв 2008
Good Day! I am The Salty Trainspotter (amongst other things) And when I'm not out watching Trains, I'm either Bell Ringing, or I'm just Frazzle (as some people know me as). I hate ironing board seats.
The content on this channel (at the moment!) includes:
Documentations of Bell Ringing trips;
Transportation footage whilst on these said trips..
..and maybe a sneaky Musical Implement Device will be here to treat you!
Rung at 307 Towers in the UK
I'm most active on Instagram, this is where I have and continue to post live travel updates, be it the class of train I'm getting on, to a random registration plate found in the middle of the road. Fun for everyone - go check it out!
I'm also on Twitter and Facebook however I post less frequently here, mostly being promotions for videos. But still worth visiting nonetheless...! FYI If you have a query about Ringing, Transport, Music or something else entirely, please do ask. I will do my best to answer you!

We set up Basecamp at the Premier Inn @ Norwich Airport for the weekend. The towers we visited on the trip were (in chronological order): Upper Sheringham, Norwich St Giles, Aylsham, Cromer, Holt, Norwich All Saints Antique Centre & Norwich St Peter Mancroft. The latter two venues do not feature in the documentation.
This will hopefully be the start of another regular upload streak from yours truly. See...

It's Christmas Day, again! What a cracking year 2023 has been - both in my ringing and non-ringing lives. I've completed my Secondary School Education, and have finished the Autumn Term of my BTEC L3 Music Technology course. Ringing wise, I rang my first peal on Sunday 5th February 2023, what an achievement that was. So far I've rung a total of 14 peals, with the final attempt of the year on Fr...

Glorious. Been in bed the whole of Christmas and you have cheered me up. (A Leicestershire ringer). Thankyou.

You know, ive never seen anyone ring in a wheelchair but i think thats amazing! 😃😃
you'd think bellringers would have more taste than to start a vid with electro-crp poppage
No no Alysham are lovely tone bells now but probably doesn't make any difference ringing them as there still tricky.
@@christianong3703 I only have an issue with the trebles, much too loud and bright compared to the back 8
Finally!!! I also really hate missing ringing up! Its infuriating for me.
Good to have you back again Frazzle - best wishes from Australia.
Finally a video where you can hear them ringing 12345678910
Treble is a bit light set at backstroke… Bumped off the stay at back in your rounds.

Nice video....... i been watching these London Tram videos all week, heading into London tomorrow. and going across to Wimbledon to see these cool little trains, with a ride on one to the first or second station (Merton road I think) 😎
Thanks! I have to say this was taken years ago (I sound quite different now!) but the tram network is all pretty much the same. Enjoy your tram experience, there is Merton Park and Morden Road tram stops so I guess you mean one of those?
The start of The R.t Honourable Sr Lord Dr Frazzle A. Storie Esq. of Croydon (shithole) ringing career!
Horrid tinny bells.
Please upload more!!!! I am missing your videos
Fraser you are my favourite barnes ringer
Why's that 🤣
As TC of some of these towers, might I respectfully suggest that if you feel they should or could be improved, that you at the very least pay for it and ideally manage the project to do so. While some of these rings do have character, they support a thriving local community and are the result of a lot of hard fundraising and bloody hard work to vastly improve them from their previous incarnations. Criticism would be more accepted if it came from people who actually had some proven track record in fixing the problems they identify. (I have replaced the badly cracked stay left behind at one of the towers).
I certainly would lead said projects if I was in a position to do so, and also if they were projects that I felt were extremely necessary. Me saying that some bells weren't as easy, tuneful or possess a particular characteristic: that isn't to say that I think they shouldn't be, or trying to encourage someone to take action.
Very much my neck of the world! But poor internal acoustics at Didbrook? Sure, they're a little quiet, but they are perfectly clear. They are also infinitely better than pre-rehang - not only the acoustics, but the "go", the ropes, the rope circle, the lighting... just about everything! (For a comparison, go and watch my video on them). I also question your ears when, despite ringing on a vintage 1911 Taylor five, Elkstone come out as "the most tuneful ring of the day" - again, they are infinitely improved from their recent rehang (and are also the first ring in Glos to be externally tuned... sadly your camera has done them little justice here). Stanway are being rung *way* too fast, a poor piece of ringing there. No wonder "it was quite hard work" - the tenors physically couldn't keep up!... Five-bell ringing is an art and discipline, the bells need to be spaced out and controlled.
I was probably referring to the volume at Didbrook, can't remember a thing about them. Elkstone seemed the brightest to me, especially the treble and tenor, singing out the best, unlike Cheltenham St Mark which sounded rather thin. Unfortunately this was recorded in my era of recording on my phone so the quality isn't as good as it would be now, so none of them sound to me in the video like they did on the day
Well done! Are you able to use this for your academic studies?
Well done. Subbed
Sounds like the first quarter of the west minster chime
It is!
Yeah
A sublime hymn
Thanks
dear Frazer I hope all goes well for you at University -you will love it I am the graduate of 2 Australian Universities

interesting history about the church the ringing gets you in. Best wishes from Australia.
Whilst the twelve at Kingston are okay and nothing special, I have always had a fondness for the back eight. I once heard them to a touch of Stedman Triples for evensong and that immediately gave me goose bumps. A very nice ring indeed, but I especially love the back eight.
If my dad was still around, he'd be loving every second of your videos.
Was your dad a ringer?
People like me will stand outside the church with our mouths hanging open in awe wondering, what kind of mind can create such beauty? How is such music humanly possible? And, well, here you are, sharing what you do with us. Truly, I am overwhelmed !!! Thank you for this !!!
When it is done well like this it sounds magnificent!

Credit to me for giving you the recorder!
I have attempted a quarter on these - sadly it fired out but that’s Stedman for you, thought they were a very nice 8 though!
I scored a very nice QP on these back in October. Although very plain on paper they have that eight bell gem and I would happily go back!
@@RingerThomas We achieved some very nice striking before a bumpy patch worsened - but I would happily come back the next time I'm in London, very nice 8 - I'm split as to whether they are superior to Garlickhythe or not!
@@Ringer_Fran Obviously these are a vintage Whitechapel eight, and Garlickhythe are a modern ring, but they're both similar in terms of weight and tuning. I'm yet to ring at either, but am certain that they're both very good eights.
@@francescogreenslade7793 They are both exceptionally easy light 8s - a delight to ring on

@@Mr_SaltyChipAh, this will help me get to sleep!
Pity that none of the towers in Blackpool are ringable.
I've heard that St Chad's Bells can be difficult to ring but you guys did some great striking ;)
I didn't find them particularly difficult myself, you just can't let them drop at handstroke.

Interest Frazzle. As someone who has never experienced campanology before - I wonder if you could explain sometime how is all works - who gives the commands and how do the ringers follow. There are many explanations of church organs and organists demonstrations. I wonder if you could post something like that some time. With very best wishes for you as you enter post school education.
Cheers for the comment! Depending on your location, you could learn to do it yourself! Did you say you're located in Australia? There are quite a few Towers there
Thanks for the reply Frazzle we are in the country 500 kms from Melbourne and Adelaide so would be difficulty to get there - I no longer drive. @@Mr_SaltyChip Best wishes from Australia - Michael.
