Thanks for the authenticity and information JoJo. I definitely understand your concerns regarding the price, some of that likely goes towards the time spent for faculty to review apps and attend interviews, but likely some of the money is feeding the schools/clinics. Might also be a barrier to limit the amount of students who actually apply! Just some thoughts! Thanks again for your insight

right now our student org in our program is hopefully getting our health service psych faculty to help us with internship and tracking hours bc we’re realizing that’s one of the biggest obstacles but most important milestones of completing our degree… and much information is being gatekept so nonchalantly.

This is so real, and your grievances are valid! I'm in my internship year now, and everything leading up to this point has been costly. Let's not even talk about the costs of moving to a new city if you match to an internship in another location. People always ask me if my school helps with these costs, and the answer is always no 🤦🏾‍♀.

I feel this. I applied for internship two years ago, and I still feel the rage for all the money and time I spent on those applications. The more annoying part is that what works for some programs (e.g., categorizing hours) will not fly in others because a DCT won't sign off on it. I didn't realize how much support I got for APPIC applications until I went to internship and heard about the lack of support. That so many people are even successful in the process is a miracle.

Whyyyy are we being charged so much money as students especially when we work for free (at practicum). Where do they think we are getting all of this money from? I only applied to 7 because that's literally all I could afford. I didn't really consider what my school suggested since they didn't offer any funds toward the application fees nor any of my bills. 😅

Very helpful! I have a masters in public health but want to do a career change to social psych. Huge decision between MA and PhD. I don't like the idea of essentially not being able to save money and losing freedom for 5 years. Yet, I'll have more career opportunities. And with MA first like you said will take longer if I decide to go for PhD after. Such a hard decision.

I have an MSW, and I want to do a PhD because I want to go back to school. I am trying to decide if I want to do it in social work or psychology.

I am currently looking into phD in forensic psychology and not aire which pathway bestbsuits my personality. Currently I am a sex offender parole officer. I love working with people whobare different from the so called "norm" and understand their perception. I am thinking of a clinical psychology side to work ine on one more than a research side. I am waching videos after videos to get my definite AHA moment.

Love your video! If I work for an agency, how likely is it that I'll have enough control to work any day of the week (even weekends) except Monday and Friday? I'll be starting my grad program in the next couple of months and will hopefully be practicing as a counselor no later than two years. Our plan is for my wife to go part time at her company so we can stay on her benefits and insurance but her part-time is only offered as working Monday and Friday and will need someone to watch our daughter while we're both working. Just wondering, how likely it would be that I can have off Monday, Fridays and maybe some Saturdays as they do sometimes work those two.

I always wanted a PHd but I own a practice and make close to 200k. I have small children. The opportunities I’d have with a PhD can’t even touch my current income- it would literally just be for the letters. Not worth it

So, I am older and planning to submit my application to a school that costs a ridiculous amount of money to attend. I am feeling incredibly nervous about the money and how I am going to live-- but I know that if those weren't obstacles I would jump in without a second thought. Since those ARE real life obstacles I was just wondering what your plan is after graduating... what are your loan payments going to look like, do you know? I want to do this, and I also don't want to feel trapped or unable to live comfortably after graduating due to student loan repayment T^T

In the UK, I saw a Doctorate in Clinical and Health Psychology. Does it mean the students will study both fields of psych? Maybe I should ask the university that offers it 😅
