Jim Bludso poem
This is a poem by John Hay I learned a long time ago and would recite and set to music and was shocked when I recorded it, how different it was from the original. I hope you will enjoy it anyway.
This is the musical version ruclips.net/video/tezCtfEFFn8/видео.html
John Hay himself is an interestng person. Along with John Nicolay he served as secretary to Abraham Lincoln and later as Sexcretary of State to William McKinley and Theodore Roosevelt..
His Pike County Ballads in the vernacular are worth exploration. Here is a short one

Secret of the machines by Rudyard Kipling

The Secret of the Machines BY RUDYARD KIPLING (MODERN MACHINERY) We were taken from the ore-bed and the mine, We were melted in the furnace and the pit- We were cast and wrought and hammered to design, We were cut and filed and tooled and gauged to fit. Some water, coal, and oil is all we ask, And a thousandth of an inch to give us play: And now, if you will set us to our task, We will serve yo...

In light of the coming singularitry, where Artificial Intelligence may soon surpass Human Intelligence, I have recorded the words to a poem writen a few years ago. I think of AI as "Augmented" Intelligence, and suspect it will have a major impact on our lives. I also think Human Intelligence may be an oxymoron and exceeding it ia low bar, but continue to believe the human spirit and love will c...

"Thanatopsis" is an early poem by the American poet William Cullen Bryant. Meaning 'a consideration of death', the word is derived from the Greek 'thanatos' (death) and 'opsis' (view, sight).
Fight at the Bars

The first poem composed by an African American woman in North Amerca , Lucy Terry Prince, was written when she was 22 years of age and was her first poem. The poem is about a fight (or massacre?) that occurred in 1746 in a meadow in Deerfield, Massachusetts. "August was the 25th, 1746" It was not printed until 1855. My father set the poem to music and this is what I remember, but this version m...

That was wonderful set to music. Well done.
Thank you
Thank you so much <3
Love this
I was born and grew up here in the 70’s and 80’s - any pictures of the big hill behind walnut and 7th at the creek? ❤️
I don't think so.....Have you checked Lindy Wardell's Arcadia book on Darby Borough?
E PLURIBUS UNUM!
Beautiful, peaceful pictures and lovely tune.
Lovely!
Nice

Thank you so much. I have just passed through this route on my way back to Delaware. This put alarge smile on me as i have a love.of hiking and history. Noted an old cemetery in the Dennis Lamding area for further investigation. There was a bit online sbout the area ship building and settlement history. Your video with the map made my route mich more comprehensive 😊.
I used to live on main Street in dennisville
Thank you, Friend🕊️
My mother taught my sisters and I the arrangement of this carol. She sang the descant, and we sang melody. Harder than you think to stay on key and come in exactly at the right times. So beautiful and I wish I heard it performed more often. Have to really search for it!
Thanks for adding this. You read it well and that prevents me from having to read it aloud in class. Plus the imagery helps clarify some of the language. Bellamy's coach is one of my favorite literary metaphors and it is so damn relevant today! That's why I have the students read it.
Very well done. I recently started reading Joyce Kilmer. This is very moving.
Thank you, and I am sorry for my delay in sending. This is a version of Joyce Kilmer's "Trees." ruclips.net/video/mtgQuyVDDrE/видео.html
Second that!
Very interesting. But, big kid that i am, i was hoping for more pictures.😀
Beautiful voice
Thank you sir
Unmistakably John.
Loved the video!
Thank you!!
Sad that Woodburne Mansion had collapsed in on it's self. Woodburne would've had to been rebuilt as a new house. The Basement brick wall were crumbling. Loved your videos on the house.
Happy Bastille Day in a revolution that may have been inspired by our own
Just read about him in depth today 6/29/2021. I am from Darby. Thanks for posting.
Speaking way too fast.
Thank you for your comment. If I redo it, I will endeavor to slow down
Let us all wear the mask for our own protection and protection of others we loved. Cherish, Respect, and behold.
Absolutely!
Sometime it is not enough to do one's best. Sometime one must do what is required. - Winston Churchill
Thank you. I agree with Churchill, and also remember Teddy Roosevelt's "Do what you can, with what you have, where you are." That is ofgten all we can do. "He seen his duty, a dead sure thing, and went for it there and then."
Explain in hindi
Sadly I don't speak Hindi but to me the essence of the poem is Earth abides, men are finite.
This is more information about Eden Cemetery, one of the areas histrical treasures www.darbyhistory.com/Eden.html
Very pretty, thank you
Respect
thank you
This is so good, thank you for doing this video!!!
Ouch. Kind of hits hard on the nature of the female of the species.
Yes it does, and also the gullible of either gender
Amazing
Glad you enjoyed it
I was looking for Winterfylleth - Green Cathedral
Very nice. Who is the musician(s) we hear?
To John & Jan: This is fantastic!...it's your usual BEYOND good work! John, your voice is that of a melodious male and the guitar in the background is the proverbial cherry on top of the ice cream float,
Thank you kind sir
im in tears right now!!!! my old school 2015-2018 (Ardmore) maddy a. #mybffcandraw <3
In my VA magazine a member writes that at this time when the unit loses a soldier the battalion commander reads this to the assembled troops.
Looks like a really cool place
Nicely played on your Bowed Psaltery, good singing, and an important message from the past for our times, thank you for putting this video up John!
I heard this story before I did not know about the Paul L. Dunbar connection.
