Quick comparison between the Garmin Fenix 7X SS vs the Tactix Delta. If you have any questions about the two please feel free to comment.
Does the amoled have solar?
Dogs like “ I don’t need no light!”
You did a great review. You’ll get more professional w your camera angles and other details over time. One major thing man…. Use a cloth, leather, rubber pad under the products. Every 5-10 seconds your verbal audio is impaired by annoying noises of the watches sliding around. I literally shut it off and then went back to it later and almost shut it off again. Your review. Might be a minor detail but it was extremely annoying listening to those watches sliding back and forth. It’s so easy to eliminate and make your audio so much more enjoyable w less distraction. Also, Garmin is gonna professionally test the lights in a lab w meters. They should have specifics on “twice as bright “ or whatever you said they claim in terms of how far the projections are. Could be in feet (meters) or inches (cm). They have to have some proof for the advertising but most likely something your, or anyone else’s eyes may not pick up. Just saying. But thank you for the time you put in, I got some of the knowledge I was looking for! Please use some sort of sound deadening material under the products 😂
I purchased a Tactika XP about 5 years ago and kept it hanging in my window for several years. I used it only a few times. During that time I realized the headband stretched out from its own weight. I contacted Petzl and they were nice enough to sell me a headband (lol) and I also noticed the battery cover had a crack. They did send me a new battery cover for free but in no way would I say their lights were worth the price. I used that $80 light about twice and broke. I have multiple headlamps that are waterproof and USBC rechargeable I bought off Temu for about $6 each .. all are fantastic. It used to be companies like Petzl and Surefire had to be patronized if you wanted a quality bright light. Not anymore. China is making some amazing lights for a few dollars. I and many others will never go back to supporting Petzl.
Does the bigger light come on in reactive mode or not??
One question please as people would complain more about scratches on tactix bezel Are tactix bezels easily scratched in comparison to fennix and epix?
Mine scratches super easy and at first it bugged me but it’s gets a nice patina
Both the normal Fenix/Epix and Tactix bezel scratches quite easily. I think due to the sharper bezel of the tactix its easier to scratch.
The red-shift mode is awesome!!! I just don't get why Garmin opted for the green LED on the tactix series. The enemy will spot you from miles away with that!!!
I agree, the green LED is not very useful for night time use aside from looking cool. It blows out your night vision way more compared to red. I did hear however its easier to read topographic maps provided in the military that have red contour lines. I would still choose the red despite this, maybe in the future we can get a multicolor LED chip instead.
Hello, can the reactive function be turned off and controll the light brightness manually? Thank you
Yes you can, you just have to hold the on button for 3 sexconds and it goes to manual mode.
Great video. Thanks for making it. 👍
You missed the big picture on lust one detail. USB c is not any better than USB b, just different, it was changed only so they can sell in Europe, where stupid EC mandates dictate communistic rules against free choice and commerce.
What things did I miss out on? Please feel free to share them here. As for USB-C I believe it is superior with having faster charging speeds, reversible plug and universal on almost all products now.
Great detailed review on the night modes and lights. Question: Can you leave the amoled version in night mode and use it as an always-on-display? I think that would be quite cool. I also really like the red night mode and you could possibly use that in an always-on-display mode? I say this, because I like an always-on-display, but I also like 3-4 weeks of battery life. So you might say, just go for the normal Pro, but I think the amoled looks really nice in both of those nite modes. If the battery is really good and it has an always-on-display option, I'll definitely get the amoled over the Pro. The only thing that I would lack, is the solar capability. I currently do use a solar Instinct 2 and of course it helps but not massively and maybe not enough to make it a real game changer.
So unfortunately in night mode you can't have an AOD. I guess its to save battery and a glowing watch face but I think it would be a nice option to have. You can just set your sleep mode for 1 minute so the watch basically always stays on. The only thing about this is you cant have the super low brightness mode of the night mode. You can choose between 3 night shift modes - orange, green and red. All of these modes work in AOD so it does give the watch a very unique look.
Thanks a lot for the informative reply. On balance, I think the amoled is my choice. It will also be interesting to know the battery life capabilities, using the various red shift AOD settings. I see this as a middle ground between the pro and the amoled. Basically having the beauty of the amoled with the stretched battery life of the pro. I guess the solar and amoled combination isn’t compatible. They would have tried it otherwise. Anyway, thanks again and I now have to prepare for the big spend :)
The size of the bezel on the amoled is massive. It unfortunately uses the same case design that would accommodate the solar ring on the MIP versions of the Tactix.
The completely black pixels on the amoled actually hide the bezel much better than the solar ring when using a black watch face. IMO it looks better than the solar ring since its not super reflective
@@TacticalOverlandingI had the amoled version for a while and the bezel size still drove me crazy. The solar ring does soften it a bit, but the added glare from the solar panel itself often makes maps hard to read at certain angles. Tradeoffs I guess.
Is there a difference in the coloring on the metal between the two watches ?
How much lighter is the color is it off putting ?
It depends on the lighting conditions, most of the time it just looks dark gray/black on the amoled. If its very dark outside they both look basically black. Unless you have them side by side you wont notice a difference too much.
Dude, thank you. I really appreciate you being one of the few that has a comparison of these types of watches. I always sided with the Tactix Pro because I looked at it as being the best of the best watches that can compete with Apple watches, but after seeing this video, you have convinced me to get the Tactix 7 AMOLED. One key feature that has my mind made up is the fact that the AMOLED version of this watch has Garmin ECG, and the original (Tactix 7 Pro) doesn't. Yeah, you don't get the the whole solar thing around the watch, but after thinking about it, who the hell will actually stand outside and point their wrist to the sun to charge? lol
Haha I did test out the solar capabilities before and even though I really tried to convince myself its worth it, it wasn't. I'm glad my video was helpful to you, thank you for watching!
I feel the same way about AMOLED v MIP. I have an instinct 2, which is a great rugged watch with an awesome battery life, but I’m thinking of upgrading and kept thinking about Tactix pro, but this video has helped me change my mind too. I don’t think the solar function is a real enough game changer and I particularly love the Red Shift modes and the night vision mode of the amoled. I suppose I might have to have a short think about the Epix, but I love the tactix style.
@@Justyburger Dude, I highly recommend to upgrade! At the same time, I’m somewhat hesitant due to hearing about that there will be a tactix 8 coming out, and I’m HOPING that it will also have the AMOLED screen. I also was hesitant in the beginning because it would’ve been nice to also have a google maps type feature to where the maps is similar to that of a Apple Watch, but after some thought, it’s not a big deal. I still plan on ordering the watch, but I’m also waiting to see if the newest tactix will come out. I’ve never had any type of smart watch, so I’m definitely excited!
@@alfredschnozzenstein1657 it is exciting :) my Instinct 2 is the first “smart” watch I’ve ever had. For the first few months I slept with the watch and found the sleep tracking very useful, but having the watch on 24/7 started to create a slight rash where the sensor is, so I stopped wearing it in bed. But…. I ocean swim and it’s very accurate on tracking my route, distance and various health stats. I also found the flashlight function to be very useful. Not a gimmick. If a Tactix 8 is coming soon, I would wait because even if you still get the 7, it will be a reduced price. I’d be tempted to remain with the 7 at a good discount because it is a big spend. As for maps, I’m not sure how they compare to Apple, but I various reviews, the Garmin maps look great. The big change for me will be touch screen and amoled display. The instinct is actually a very good watch still. It does most things.
Get a decent mic.
Thank you!
Thx for review. Just ordered my T7 amoled, being a MIP person for 6+ years with my Fenix 5X =) Afraid and both exited to try new tech
Yea this is my first Amoled Garmin too. I always like trying new things just to see what I actually prefer more. Hope you like your new watch!
@@TacticalOverlanding yeah, no regrets now! Love My new T7)
real men wear MIP
Im sorry you feel that way. Thank you for watching!
When u use it as an lantern let the strap outside the pouch and you can hang it easy in your car or tent or anything else.
Very good point, I haven't thought about that!
Wanted to get some more info on the watch before it gets to me. Ordered it today!
Hi. Do you have Outdoor Maps + by any chance? There are no videos at all on RUclips showing the difference of this and it's the deciding factor for me on whether to go for the standard Tactix or the AMOLED. Thanks.
Hey, I live in Canada and currently there is no Outdoor Maps+. I am curious too on the functionality of it but I will say if you are planning to use the satellite imaging the AMOLED is way better. Even in standard maps you can see much more and the difference would be night and day with satellite.
Hi, I do a lot of trekking in the mountains. In this case, is Amoled or Pro Ballistic better? If I'm not mistaken, Amoled seems to be better due to its clear display (especially for direct light from the Sun). But is it true that it is very delicate and scratches easily? I do not understand. Shouldn't it be durable/resistant? Thank you.
Hi, thanks for watching! Both are very visible in direct sunlight, Amoled is better indoors but the MIPs is better for battery. Both are exactly the same in durability if you get the titanium sapphire editions, the screen is very hard to scratch but the bezel can scratch since its metal if you bang it against rocks or other hard metals.
@@TacticalOverlanding Thank you for your answer. I have just bought the Amoled! 🙂
Thank you for the review, it helped a lot.
Glad it was helpful!
I appreciate the video. Within the next week I’m going to buy a Tactix 7 Pro because I’ve come to the conclusion that the model would be the best option for my lifestyle. I like the Pro Ballistic model, but I can’t justify paying for that model
Glad I could help! I believe you can always get the pro ballistic after if you need it from the Garmin store. Cheers!
@@TacticalOverlanding I was wondering if it were available as a download. Thank you again for your video sir! I’m looking forward to more!
I have both the Pro Ballistic and the Amoled. Personally I prefer the latter but the PB has a better battery life due to the solar charging which allows a much AOD battery life. But once again I love the AMOLED and has become my go to watch.
@@CornellWellsII I really like the display on the AMOLED but I’m really more interested in battery life
I was worried the pro would be dim. It definitely looks that way like a fitbit screen. I canceled and ordered amoled today
It's nicer than a fitbit but the AMOLED is on a different level. It is beautiful
Hi there loved the review but where did you get your straps? I have a fenix and the original straps are starting to tear in the eyelets thanks in advance.
Thanks for watching! The tactical nylon and rubber straps are from Garmin when I got the watch but I normally wear the trail loop that you can get from Amazon. They are a copy of the Apple watch strap which feels very comfortable.
To wash it. I remove the main unit and throw the strap and clips in washing machine
Thats a really good idea, much easier than trying to remove the straps haha!
Are the batteries interchangable between the old and new model?
Yes, its the same battery. Only difference is the charging port

Hope you found the video helpful! Thanks for watching
Nice review. Great to see time spent reviewing the flashlight.
Thank you! It's one of my favourite and most used features on the watch and I don't see many people talking about it!
I just bought Tactix 7 AMOLED, i hope new 8 series will not come in this month :P
It will likely not come out for at least a few months
It was just announced brand new tactix 8
@@conspiracy3351 I know I think I made this late at night wanting to fuck with people
@@Goodmaen6706 no, they don't
@@cedryk5376 I know I was just messing with him. I keep hearing rumors about fall 24 or first quarter 25.
Can’t really find any videos to compare epix 2
They are essentially the same watch with the Tactix having a cooler looking bezel, green vs red flashlight and some software features
Nice video but a little too much emphasis on the flashlight. It's just a flashlight.
I don't think its "just a flashlight" which is why I spent so much more time on it. I personally have never had a decently bright flashlight that is always on my wrist. It also happens to be on a watch I really like. Its a very useful feature that should be on many more watches and I won't get another watch without one!
Hello. Does the night mode vision ( red screen ) can be activated automatically when the sunset for example or at a given hour ?
You can set it to activate automatically on sunset but not at a given hour. You can set the sleep mode at a given hour and set the red shift mode when it goes to sleep. You can now also have green and orange shift instead of red!
購入にあたりとても参考になりました。
I'm glad this was helpful for you! Thank you for watching!
I owned a tactix 7 standard edition and should I upgrade for the Amoled model or not? What is your opinion?
To be honest I wouldn't upgrade just for the screen yet. You are paying considerably more for basically the same watch with different display. You already have a very capable watch, I would wait for the 8 in this case.
Does Amoled screen in Tactix 7 watches reliable ? What is the expected lifespan of amoled on this watch before screen burn-in? Thank you
Hard to say but other sources say Garmin has addressed burn in with a newer display type and pixel shift technology. You can actually see the screen shift slightly when you turn the display on and off. In terms of lifespan I'd guess at least 5 years if you use AOD. If AOD is off then your battery will likely wear out faster
@@TacticalOverlanding Thank you 👍
Does the Amoled have solar charging?
No solar for the Amoled, even on the MIPS it doesn't do much in my experience
I’m considering buying one of those watches but I was wondering about battery and features but In your opinion which one you think is better ? Cheers from Japan !
Hey there! Hard to say one is better than another, everyone will have their preferences. Battery on the Amoled is 10-13 days with light usage where as the MIP is about 30 days. When you use the GPS often the difference in battery will be much closer. The Amoled also has the new HR sensor and better flashlight. I think you should choose which display you like more since the features are very similar.
@@TacticalOverlanding thanks a lot man !
How did you get 30 days? I had the fenix 7x sapphire and I was never able to get that amount of battery life. I have the tactix 7 amoled now and I get 2 weeks roughly just like the fenix 7x. That's using both for about 1 to 1 1/2 hrs to work out daily.
@@MrCuzcatlanreally? They have more or less the same batery life?
Is this watch better on android or IOS . I’m going to get this watch I’m wearing Apple Ultra 1 as of now
You get to use more features on Android like replying to messages or calls and viewing pictures from text
Just bought the amoled version of this... hint, when doing a close up video like this, place a towel down on the desk first. This eliminates the awful sound from constant sliding the watch on a hard surface sounds... very annoying...
Thanks! I will keep that in mind next time!
How to settings dim display @ 40 min
I think you mean 4min? It will automatically go into dim mode when on your wrist and the Always-on Display feature is on
@@TacticalOverlanding ohh okay Thank you so much
The. its an advanttage if its not totally black, you be able to see whats on the screen
Thanks! I have a Tactix 7, do you think it add any value to get a Tactix 7 amoled?
Hey thanks for watching. Personally I don't think its worth buying the amoled if you already have the Tactix 7. Save your money and wait for the Tactix 8 instead
@@TacticalOverlanding Thanks! Great idea!
Does amoled version have solar charging?
No it does not, the solar wouldn't be powerful enough to charge the AMOLED display. Even on MIPS it barely makes a difference
the solar sapphire power glass is more reflective and hard to see in some lighting conditions, the standard no solar is less reflective. Having the touch screen off and the screen lighting lower saves on battery too. nice visualization of the watches ! 🎉🎉
Good point on the reflectivity! Thanks for watching!
great review. I appreciate you comparing these two similar models ! Very Helpful !
I honestly like the transflective screen on this watch more. But amoled also looks nice. However transflective is probably more suited for this watch more for what it is.
Yea the MIPS is more traditional for a outdoor sports watch and OLED is more smartwatch looking. Both great choices
This is by far my favorite watch by Garmin. I really wish they made it in 47mm. I've got the same wrist size, do you find it too big? This is really making me consider going back to Garmin and selling my AWU2
More sizing would be nice for sure. It is def bigger than any traditional watch but since its titanium, it makes it very light and I don't notice it on my wrist
Hello. What about the size?Is comfortable in the hand?Or is too big?The amoned
Size is on the larger size but since it has titanium it makes the watch very light
