Portal Revolution Review - Even Better than the Real Thing
This was a pretty cool game. There were other shooters that I liked more but something about the aesthetics and general atmosphere of Q3 was very appealing.
0:40 I mean... more games released with id Tech 3 than Unreal Engine 1. So, it kinda did win.
I meant overall if we go further down the line. id Tech 3 was used pretty widely, but Unreal Engine 2 onward started to dominate the industry.
Using Team Beef VR mod you can play quake 3 arena on quest in VR
That was nice.
And now id software went from the resistance for deathmatch purists to calling deathmatch, a child they spawned, and i quote; "Old and Deprecated"! So sad! Love the video!
Year 1999 was just ruthless, and sort of unending celebration of top releases, almost every month. System Shock 2, Aliens vs Predator, Tony Hawk Skateboarding, Planescape Torment, Age of Empires II, Heroes of Might & Magic III, Freespace 2... and then Unreal Tournament & Quake III Arena to seal what could be the biggest homerun in FPS gaming. Too good to be true, but we actually lived through it !
It's crazy to think it's already been 25 years... Btw just noticed that the quality of the videos have increased, that's awesome.
I figured out a better way to capture video, so it’s helped a lot. No more Geforce Shadowplay chopping up frames and making me have to use 15 seconds, haha.
Hell yeah!
Don’t you mean, “EXCELLENT”?
So nostalgic, great video! Loved U and UT since I was little, but only just started playing online. It's still alive!
From this to Fortnite. A tragedy.
An absolute travesty.
I played the demo for this game so many times.
I miss this game I have unreal tournament 3 but it'l gets boring fighting just bots
love this
I think Unreal will soon see a resurgence after it's Secret Level episode. Hold the line brother, it's not dead yet. My old body straightens when I see new videos of Unreal posted. So many memories of this series. I hope it comes back.
Fingers crossed. It would make NO DAMN SENSE for Epic to allow them to make an episode on UT and then not capitalize on it in any other way. On the other hand, the way Epic treats this classic game makes me sick, so anything can happen.
@paweek5540 I had that exact same idea, makes no sense to update the intro then not have something to profit from it. We will see.
I really hope so. I'll even take another arena shooter coming in to reignite what Unreal started. I'd just like to have this form of online combat back.
Nightdive wanted to remake the original unreal, but epic games sadly declined.
Yeah, I remember hearing about that. Stephen Kick from Nightdive tells me things from time to time and it's always puzzling how many big games don't get remasters simply because the studio doesn't want to.
It's pretty amazing how much games have changed starting from this engine.
Норм норм, надеюсь твой ролик посмотрит больше людей, успехов❤
Nail on the head review. Everything clicked when it was released. The mood, the tone, the atmosphere, and that effin 'Foregone Destruction' track, encapsulating 90s. Only Carmack / Romero could come close. Recently, think only Ashes 2063 and Ion Fury had the similar punch for me. Seriously, how hard is to make solid shooter on Unreal Engine 5 ? Teyon did okay with Robocop, I guess, while new Judge Dredd game or true Duke Nukem 3D sequel sounds like too much of a fargone concept these days...
Unreal Engine 5 is notoriously finicky with shader compilation and such, so I don't know how long it will take until we see a truly problem-free experience with it. Boomer shooters, though, at least live on in the indie space, but I would love to see a new arena shooter that doesn't get abandoned in a few months come out.
Same here. ID Software returning to Quake III Arena roots, and once again nailing that brutal dynamics could be our only hope, if they can only forsake that modern Doom formula, for a moment. At some point, UT Gold and UT 2004 remake / remaster, could be step in some kind of promising direction, but I totally agree on indie space. So far, they can bring some of that magic back, plus with help of some ambitious modders, it should always be possible. Keep it up, Peter ! Looking forward to your further views on FPS genre. Here's hoping 2025 will bring hidden gems, if the industry will still be in stagnation.
thanks for the playthrough.
I am going for the true ending, so there should be about six episodes. I do a lot of fast-forwarding, but you should be able to determine what moves I'm selecting. Thanks for watching.
I have purchased everything Night Dive Studios has made thus far. So far, the only games I hadn't played before was PO'ed and the first System Shock. I absolutely loved System Shock and I can't wait to play the second one again (I missed the first). PO'ed on the other hand I thought was absolutely terrible. I hated it so much I got a refund for it. At any rate, I am in the process of downloading Killing Time right now. I have always wanted to play it ever since I saw it advertised for the 3DO back in...I think 1994. I didn't own a 3DO when it was current so this is pretty neat.
@@Sinn0100 In some weird way, I enjoyed PO’ed, but I can’t disagree with you. That’s why my whole review was about how Nightdive’s work is excellent even if the game wasn’t. Killing Time, however, is legitimately good. It might be odd at the start and it certainly doesn’t give direction, but it’s a very solid shooter.
The game crashed multiple times during this stream. One of the bosses also glitched out and wouldn't let me attack. Very odd, but at least a restart fixed the problems.
The Turok 2 and Shadow Man update fixed several issues on Perfect Dark so I would suggest checking them out
I'll have to take another look at it. Thanks.
@@killallgames Some fixes include: - X tracks fixed - Input latency reduced - Blur effect is greatly reduced. It was so strong that it could possibly freeze the screen, making progress impossible. This was addressed - Sun light flares no longer render through walls or guns, but other light flares are still glitched - Explosions with debris are fixed. Although the explosions are still dim, imo it's for better due to epilepsy concerns - UVs are fixed
@@jasonmartinez5116 The dimmer explosions were likely altered due to epilepsy concerns, yeah. I know that the N64 emulation that Nintendo offers will never be perfect, but the state Perfect Dark launched in was terrible. If I ever get a capture card for my consoles that can do 60 FPS, I might stream it just to see the changes.
@@killallgames Especially after the Denno Senshi Porygon incident from 1998, I think the dimmer explosions are okay and easier on the eyes for some. It's the reason why several scenes in anime that are really bright are dimmed or darker to avoid epilepsy. Even re-releases on several games do this like Mega Man X4. Goldeneye on NSO even has some muzzle flashes or explosions dimmed for this reason
This game blew me away. So much fun. Love the soundtrack.
This isn't a 3DO console remaster, it's a remaster of the PC game. They're two different games with the same title and some shared assets
@@AndrewBell Correct. I suppose I should have made that clearer. This version does use some assets from the 3DO version, at least.
I just wanted a campaign completely set during the Gulf War. Definitely didn't get that here and lame how Sadam didn't even appear in the game unlike previous Black Ops campaigns. And zombies don't belong in the campaign. Hoping one day someone brings back Conflict Desert Storm.
In a way, I do agree that zombies shouldn't be in the campaign. I thought it was maybe the best part of it, but I can also see wanting to have a realistic set of missions to go through. If only something more memorable happened during all of it.
@killallgames, They've used zombies 3 times now in Black Ops campaigns: 3, Cold War, and now 6. Zombies were not in 1 or 2. That level in 6 feels like it belongs in Singularity or Bioshock. I agree that it seems Ravensoft wants to make something else than CoD. Doesn't seem the Microsoft purchase has made that prospect more of a reality than before it. We really don't got any indie or AA devs making a linear military FPS like the CoDs from the 2000s-2010s. Black Ops 6 campaign isn't as bad as the ones from MW3 2023 and Vanguard 2021. But it is just ok at best like Black Ops Cold War's. Really don't get why this campaign got such praise, I think the campaigns for MW3 2019 and MW2 2022 were better.
@ I tried the MW3 campaign after finishing this video and it’s quite bad. I think the recent failure of that is why people rated this one higher. In comparison, Black Ops 6 is way better.
Great Video :) heres hoping you make some more.
I had a couple of weird errors while streaming this the other day. I guess the settings I had set were too much for my CPU as there are random moments of slowdown. You'll see halfway through that I had to tweak things, but the game works fine otherwise.
3DO has Mortal Kombat 2 on the way from a talented individual developer, and now THIS!!! I love my 3DO!
I have just finished this on my Series X. Really good game with stellar music in my opinion. The mood is really cool!
I’m literally streaming it now
I hope you enjoy it.
@@killallgames so many memories
@@killallgames I do it takes me wayyyyy back to my first ps1 and my uncles with the 3do. They need to remaster Escape From Monster Manor
If only they redid Blood....
must have.
Great review. Subbed!
gamepad support on PC`?
Yes, this has gamepad support. It's fully customizable like Nightdive's other remasters, too.
What's funny is depending on the year in the 1930s the game takes place in we might be using Molotov Cocktails before they were invented. If wikipedia is correct (And yes I know it could easily be wrong) the earliest use of them in war was in the mid to late 1930s in Spain though the name came later.
@@roguerifter9724 Someone on Ruby Ranger’s recent video mentioned that the game may actually be taking place 60 years later with the specific events having transpired in the past. Since the store page says, “Set in the 1930s,” I’m not sure what is true, lol.
An excellent review! Like yourself I thoroughly enjoyed this remaster and thought it was brilliantly done!! .. Also a little fun fact.. Eric Flom, the actor who plays Duncan DeVries (The guy arguing with the cop in the first FMV segment you showed in your review) also starred as the lead role in Police Quest: SWAT.. which was another FMV game from the 90s.. He was the player character "SWAT Pup" in that game..
Nice informative review. Straight to the point, no forced humor/jokes. I checked out reviews from other channels, and many don't even mention map design and mechanics. Thank you, keep up the good work!
Thanks for the kind words. I try my best to simply deliver concise reviews, even if this one was a little long. I just had a lot to say about Killing Time.
Just picked it up. I was a 3DO owner and the remaster is easily worth a purchase.
I agree. I was very taken with the game, even if some aspects are a bit dated.
Peer pressure and lack of time (deadlines among programmers) often result in a disregard for player comfort & entertainment-factor, yet: I overcame my anger & disappointment about it, as MOST content creators really work hard to deliver the best they can! Plus: A remake or remaster edition may always come later. `Some even listen to customer feedback!´ 🤗
I don’t think I would say you were spoiled. You obviously treasured the gift and memories your mom gave you
That's true. My mom always says, too, that she just wanted me to be save by having me inside at night.
40 years old? you sound 18 to me lmao
I'm 36 and a half right now, but I guess sounding 18 isn't so bad, haha.
Games like this are meant to be played on Easy first, so you learn where the monster closets are and can focus less on combat and item management for map navigation. Playing this game on hard first just results in frustration. Unfortunately this game never communicated this. Its something you only realize from experience, when the first impression has already been ruined.
Doom II is a classic, I always liked it better than the first game. You were a Mac kid eh? Have you ever played the Marathon games on your old Mac as a kid? Marathon was my first exposure to fps, been my favorite genre ever since I first played it in early 1995. Best of the 90s fps games imo, may not be as fast and smooth as Doom, but it makes up for it with story interesting level design.
@@thesaturdaynightcomfyexpre4471 Weirdly enough, I never did have Marathon as a kid. I had a Star Wars six pack, though. I played a lot of Dark Forces.
Doom II has a special place in my heart because each time that I play it it reminds me of my grandpa. I used to play with him and he would stand right next to me and he would learn things. He was stuck at level 2 where you need to make that jump and he couldn't never figure out until I showed that you can sprint. RIP
If I ever forget my age all I have to do is to think of when the first Doom got released... I am 31. Crazy how old this game is but it is still so much fun. P.S There's a new Ray Tracing mod for Doom 2 that got released like a month ago. IT IS AMAZING!
I tried the RTX mod for the first Doom. It's kind of funny that you need DLSS to run Doom, haha.
@@killallgames Doom 2 RTX is even better. Please if you can, give it a try. Do not look for videos or else it will spoil the surprise.
Спасибо за обзор❤
Beautiful retrospective definitely underrated title, and I agree definitely part of that crowd that should have been praising the game more, brings back all the memories of TK surfing
i'm playing on ps4 slim. my guy sort of slides a bit on certain surfaces (like i'm on ice), especially when i'm going downhill. Anyone else experience this?
good review. was looking to buy this
I hope you enjoy it. I apologize for my delayed response as right after I finished this video, my CPU died on me, haha.
