The Worst Godzilla Movie (whips, actually)
Просмотров 85028 дней назад
1963 saw the release of Where The Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak. It’s the story of a boy who, frustrated by his reality, escapes to a land without people populated instead by fantastical monsters that he befriends. It’s critically acclaimed, universally beloved, and held up as one of the all-time great works of children’s literature. 1969 saw the release of Godzilla’s Revenge, also known as...

Lol I just rewatched the series yesterday. Thanks, algorithm.
“Charlie Brown has a lot of problems :)” -my favorite quote from the whole movie
The cover art for the Simitar Video release for this movie goes so ridiculously hard. (tbh, all of their covers are so cool)
I don't love it, but it's too unhinged and creative for me to hate it. I think the silliness makes some fans a little embarrassed to have this one associated with their favorite series, which is why it gets more vitriol than Godzilla Raids Again or Megaguirus, even though those are far worse than Godzilla's Revenge (imo). It's sort of like that period of time when some Batman fans acted like the 1960s TV show was bad because it was so silly.
found this video today and yeah, the idea of some overpaid celebrity with a big name instead of Tom Kenny voicing Popeye sounds about right if the movie had gone forward. Which is a shame because Kenny definitely sounded like the perfect fit for Pop-Eye and instead we got the Emoji Movie, which might as well had been something made with AI.
I recently watched All Monsters Attack for the first time and...yeah, it's rubbish. The worst of the Godzilla films. It is a bottle episode that uses stock footage centered around an annoying child.
actually, see the day doesnt include all the moves, it very conspicuously omits high knees! he's not performing for anyone, so he doesnt need to keep his confidence up!
This movies eh, it’s not horrible. However the English dub is horrendous. I do think the anime trilogy is the worst. But I really only count the live action movies.
A transcendently good take. It's a movie that I don't usually prefer to rewatch but it's by no means bad. It's got that goofy camp that makes the Showa era movies so much fun, albeit turned up a notch. I always found that the hate this movie got was blown way out of proportion and it's cool to see someone come out, go against the current and explain why this movie is pretty damn good. Baller video

I'm always glad to see you post. Thinking of you. Hold your IRL friends close and lift them up when you can ❤ One of my IRL trans friends has a hobby of parking near train tracks and watching the trains go by, I'm going to send this to her.
A nice feeling of "everything will be okay" which is very welcome right now
i rlly like this style! i'd love to see more plz!
Seconded!
thank you for making this. We'll make it, one train at a time.
This was really sweet. Thank you for making me smile. I love getting to see your work <3<3
This will stick with me for a long time, I think.
beautiful art
hope your doing well Euan
That was really well executed! Loved the writing too. I laughed out loud at work listening to this. Loved it!
How can you possibly let an online movie reviewer live rent free in your head? The only people who have these issues are people who live online and don’t go outside enough. Go touch grass and worry about real problems. You’ll forget Doug exists very quickly
I must be getting old, because I don’t understand the title of this video
I have heard at least one mainstream movie critic talk about this movie positively because of its message about standing up to bullies and being self-reliant (Perhaps it was Leonard Maltin, I'm not sure). Bullies are not very easy to stand up to in real life and standing up to criminals can be even more dangerous for children, so the message is lost on me. I was not too fond of this fever dream of a movie as a kid. It was hard for me to differentiate Ichiro's dream sequences from what was really going on in Ichrio's world. As I got older it made more sense but it didn't make it more entertaining. This movie along with the other Showa-era movies was rerun a lot on television, so I have seen it many times and would only rewatch it out of boredom or I would have it on in the background while I did other things.
So glad I’m not the only one who remembers Graggle. Hey, any of you have a favorite Graggle Simpson moment?
Thanks for the level-headed take on this film, I don't think I ever truly hated it; it was actually one of my first Godzilla films! And moments like Ichiro's mother crying after he marches out of the house at the end, all confident now, really sell that it's more than just a clipshow.
Was the worst. The anime triology is way worse than Godzilla's revenge.
I remember the vhs box had pictures on it that where never scenes from the movie. I rewashed it so many times thinking I missed something because the movie was so bad
The same mfs who say "I love goofy Godzilla," jack off over KoTM and parrot love for vs Hedorah / vs Megalon all hate this movie because that's what all the RUclipsrs said
also, adult godzilla fans hate children so much because they see them as competition for the spoils of the toy aisle whenever a new monstereverse film releases. hope this helps
Ive seen it when I was younger, and It’s not only a bad Godzilla movie, but it’s also a really Bad Kids movie, it’s morals really isn’t fitting for kids to learn. Like, learning to pick your own battles(literal Battles), and when you beat your bullies, you join them?
Absolutely. Any kid I scuffled with in school I eventually became friends with.
@ what i meant with joining is that, you become a bully just like them and apparently that’s Ok?
@@thelittleal1212 Spoken like somebody who's never honked the bicycle horn of a billboard painter. :) But I get yah, it's actually something I would preface if I ever showed it to someone's kids. The message at its heart is good though.
@@jbbyaboo1105 In a technicality but not literally. Picking your own battles sounds like a decent Moral, but it wasn’t well executed in this movie, cause it felt heavily misleading
This was one of the handful of G films I had on tape so I ended up watching it over and over as a kid!
Godzilla's Revenge is pretty good tbh I love just about all of these movies the only ones I don't like are Godzilla vs Mothra (91) and Godzilla X Kong
I’m somewhere in the middle when it comes to this silly little movie, I absolutely don’t hate it at all but at the same time I definitely don’t see it as some sort of coming of age masterpiece like some do… I only got into Godzilla last year and I found myself loving the sillier and campier films more than the serious ones. My favourites being Vs Mechagodzilla, Spacegodzilla, 2000 and my beloved Megalon <3 with that being said, there’s two main problems with this movie for me: First is the stock footage, I understand where you’re coming from but compared to other movies in the series like Megalon for example they used stock footage in much smaller doses and never usually reused scenes in their entirety like Goji’s Revenge does. Also I really like Ebirah and Son of Goji! so when those scenes show up it almost feels like you’re watching RUclips clips when really I’d rather just watch those two movies instead… My second problem is the whole bank robber/kidnapping plot. It just really doesn’t need to be there and takes away from the coziness in the rest of the film, dealing with his bullies would have been more than enough for lil Ichiro! With all that being said, it is fun and somehow one of Honda’s most enjoyable films he directed in the franchise (Terror of Mechagodzilla wishes it was this good) The absolute highlight for me is Gabara, this silly green cackling cat creature is so wonderful to me and I do think it’s a shame this wasn’t strictly a “Godzilla Vs Gabara” movie helmed by Fukuda or something but oh well… anywho, this was a super fun video :3 glad to see more people who realise Godzilla can be more than just a serious allegory and that sometimes, he can just be a funny guy.
The comparison to Where The Wild Things Are is so surprising but accurate lol
We recently discovered that "Godzilla's Revenge" was one of Ishiro Honda's favorite films that he directed. "Godzilla '54", "The Mysterians", "Mothra '61", "Gorath", and "Godzilla's Revenge." I'd rather watch "Godzilla's Revenge" than "Shin Godzilla" or "Godzilla: Final Wars." I said what I said. Want your heads to explode? "Godzilla's Revenge" did about the same at the Japanese box office as "Destroy All Monsters" had. In the script for the movie, Godzilla originally fought the giant octopus instead of Ebirah and Gorosaurus instead of Spiega. Minya talks in this movie because in 1969, Toho had entered into a deal with an American company to produce an animated Godzilla TV show (rather than make another movie). One of the plot concepts of the series was that Minya would be a go-between for the humans and the monsters (whether he could shrink down to our size or not is unknown) and talk. But over the course of the year, the series never got off the ground and that summer, Toho's American co-production "Latitude Zero" bombed hard. The brass at Toho Corporate decided they needed a new Godzilla movie for their New Year's Blockbuster season and ordered a new one put into production to try to make up for LZ. And elements from that unmade animated series were used in what became "Godzilla's Revenge." And in the Japanese version, Minya has a girl's voice. Instead of that "Godzilla sez I should learn ta fight my own battles, y'know" line, he delivers the far more profound, "[Godzilla has said] You can fight anything by yourself and you can live by yourself."
@@ConstantineFurman I never knew that about there having been an unmade animated series! That's really interesting.
The ending of this video was oddly beautiful. I'm glad you found yourself and had the strength to show it ❤
Great video! As a life long Godzilla fan I also love this movie
This is great !!!!!!!!!! Sending this to a friend of mine who mentioned he liked Godzilla recently c: I don't think I've watched any of the series, but now I really want to. Wild hearing those clips of old That Guy With The Glasses-type reviewers, hard to believe I liked them so much growing up, just seems so needlessly mean. The movie seems really sweet and endearing. And I'll watch most anything with a Criterion Collection edition ahaha, so it was WILD to hear that thrown in there at the end.
I have never seen a godzilla movie but I will listen to you talk about anything
Same ❤

Solo is underrated?
I feel like the transition came when they did To Boldly Flee. Doug wanted to be done with the Critic show in general, when his other projects tanked, he brought back the Critic as more genuine review with skits thrown in; as opposed to "Classic NC" which was much more MST3K-esque. I much preferred the classic NC.
