Failed ACA P50 Tornado Siren Test Schaumburg, IL 8/1/23

Went to the P50 down in Schaumburg, expecting the old beasr to sound loud as always, however all it did was rotate. No sound was produced from the siren which was pretty disappointing. This is also unsafe considering the inclement weather conditions we have had this year. Illinois has had some of the most tornadoes in the US! Anyways, enjoy!

This is a video filmed by my dad of one of the tornados that caused damage on 7/12/23. You can also hear an ASC T128 sounding in the background, which means the FS 2001 SRNB has been replaced. This is a bit of a shocker considering Palatine consists of all FS sirens, so therefore this is the first of what will probably many ASC sirens. Enjoy!

Hello all and Happy Fourth! I went to this T-128 today hoping the ACA PN-20 was still here. Unfortunately, fulton must have replaced a little while ago which sucks since this was one of the last PN-20s in Hoffman Estates. This T-128 was very punchy and I think that it will do the job great for the area. Enjoy!

This siren sounded for way longer than the usual 1 min test which was interesting but its always nice when a siren goes off for longer than usual! Also apologies for the rain in the video, it was raining when I was in my car. Anyways I hope you enjoy...

ACA P-50 Siren Test Schaumburg IL Cook County 1/4/2022 (with T-128 ambiance)

(skip to 1:16 for siren activation) This is my first siren that I have ever recorded and actually my first ever video! This siren is located at Novaspect on Tower Rd in Schaumburg, IL. This was a super fun test and the P-50 was a lot louder than I thought, but it sounded great which is not surprising. I found it weird how it hiccupped at 2:15 but I am sure it was NWCDS reactivating the siren(s)...

That’s literally not true. Spreading false information makes you look like a giant asswipe.
Oh yea, you need a 6V 10ah battery on your combo. in its current state it won't run for the required 90 minutes, and the exit takes 3.6W lamps, you absolutely need two of those to light the sign properly (I have a 1994 Sure-Lites UN-1 SRW that has 3.6W backup lamps, can attest that you need both) and with that, I hope you improve your sign a little. in a real power outage, thank me later ;)
Yeah it needs a very big battery. It had the original one from 1995 when I recieved it. I have a 4.5 ah battery for it if I ever need it but right now its not powered on mainly because of its age. I love UN1s, they are great signs. Thank you for the tip and comment it is appreciated :)
I have some bad news about this siren , I heard from another RUclipsr that this siren has a possibility of it getting replaced after he reported the sirens failure…
Yeah its very unfortunate but Ive seen it coming for a while. Hoffman Estates and Schaumburg have already replaced all of their other ACA Penetrator series sirens.
@@thoward575 man that sucks and the penetrators are my fav siren series, especially the the p50’s, and only 11 remain in Texas where I’m at

Fiberglass flew into the chopper and the stator was cracked I believe and the chopper stopped instantly
Huh, I thought it was completely dead/inactive for the time being, turns out the motor is just fried. Knowing Fulton, I think they're going to replace this with a T-135 rather than fix it.
Yeah probably, sucks to see that the motor fried. Sad it will most likely end up getting replaced
Update on this siren: It has been replaced with an ASC T 128, I believe all FS 2001 SRNs in the Palatine and Inverness area have been replaced.
In my opinion older alarms are timeless they simplistic design makes them fit into any application at any time point in history.

Yes it is fun! This is my first unboxing of a fire alarm, the others I have done were very long ago and I sadly don’t remember them.
Yowch not good! Motor may have fried or it could be a starter issue in the controls. Good thing you caught it on camera though!
Yeah this a bad situation. I hope the motor is not fried. I hope the Fulton gets notified about the issue.

Currently Caruthersville Missouri as well.....they took down our Thunderbolt Siren now we have 3 of these same Sentury Sirens......
Sentry makes good sirens, but too bad they replaced those thundebolts.
I think you said you got that exit sign combo off of eBay and what could have happened is it was installed and The Face Place of it fell off and broke so a installer instead of installing a new unit just put a Lithonia Lighting faceplate on. Also really like your videos so I will subscribe to you. And I have a RUclips channel and I post about exit signs, fire extinguishers, fire alarms, security equipment and other stuff
Yeah the generic one I got off ebay and it was brand new at least that’s what the seller said so im not sure its in poor shape 2 snaps are broken and the test button is weird the components move a lot when I test it. I’m super happy to hear you like my videos and I also really like yours I am subscribed you have a very nice collection and I hope to maybe make more videos of my stuff so I am super happy to hear someone who enjoys my content
I have a unit that's very similar to that elm2. It's a Lithonia Lighting elm2 but the test button is on the side and my unit is all broken the circuitry of it works but the housing and the lamps are broken
That’s very cool, it sounds like you have a Lithonia 6elm2 since the test button was on the sides of those units. Sucks most of it is broken but at least the circuitry works. Thanks for the comment
Also if you wanted to fix the lamps you should buy some Lithonia remote heads to replace the old ones.
@@thoward575 actually yeah that's a brilliant idea I didn't think to do that. Because I have some prescolite, mule, dual Lite and Lithonia lighting remote heads. I tried hot glue in the heads back on but then I can't adjust them and they ended up breaking again.

I don't think that's an ECR combo, but I may be mistaken. and to answer your question about L in model numbers, you'd have to give me the model number. there are only two Ls I'm sure of in model numbers, those being the PLX exit signs and LPX exit signs. for PLX, it stands for Plug-in fLourescent eXit and LPX is LED Polycarbonate (plastic) eXit. for other models, I can guess, but can't tell you for sure
Ok I will send you a link of the listing on eBay when I get time. And yes this is an ECR combo by Lithonia, because the faceplate has the Lithonia logo and inside there is a sticker that says the model number is “ECR” but I could be wrong but I appreciate the comment :)

@@thoward575 it looks like you were right after further review. that was an ECR combo. just a Jiming unit that Lithonia rebranded.

@@thoward575 oh yeah, I finally got my UN-1 SRW to work. apparently, the new battery didn't work because the circuit board connection was loose. after reconnecting that one wire, the UN-1 worked just fine. I hope your exit lights are also working well!
Filmed this thing over a year ago. This thing was loud af like any P-50 is and best siren I ever went to so far. Hope to hear this again eventually! Also yes the hiccup was NWCD re-activating. They send out two sets of two tone and a lot of Whelen DTMF twice to make sure all sirens are on. There is also some DTMF polling going on occasionally. Idk what towns it is for but my best guess is it is for Arlington Heights

@@thoward575 oh nice! Also an update: I never heard those polling tones since on NWCD’s frequency…they prb do it way after the test now or not at all

@@thoward575update on the P-50: it has been replaced by a T-135 AC/DC. Also, I was wrong about the NWCD frequency. I’m not sure why it re activated, but it actually used to activate with FSK over a secure trunked frequency which most scanners can’t pick up
It never ignored cancel tones on the day I filmed this. They just did a very long test. Some sirens went 3 minutes, some 4 (like this one), and some 5. It was probably a one-time thing.
Oh ok I thought it had ignored the tones which made it go for super long but thanks for correcting me I will change the description.
I went to a BG 2001 in September and it went for a full three minutes and is also in the NWCD system
