It's interesting that his father Anton Rupert started to make money just when the National Party came into power in 1948 who instituted Apartheid which violated the rights of most South Africans. No one makes money honestly, there is always some unfair advantage which you exploit.

People like to say he had a good start in life.That is true to some extent but he did not rest on his laurels.Went to US not to study but to work.Learnt his trade and had the vision and capability to achieve remarkable success.His dad Anton started with nothing during World War 2 and built a phenomenal business.Neither father nor son ever relied on state or government to achieve success.Johann Rupert is however in a sense his own worst enemy in public in that he shows that he doesn’t tolerate fools gladly.Lastly his entrepreneurial skills and philanthropy benefitted all in SA.
