Think Rocky IV had the best soundtrack of the series

I think of Freddy Mercury who, like Benjamin Orr, left this world way too soon. It's almost as though neither wanted to be forgotten. Freddy was more of a showman and with the advent of the film about Freddy & Queen, a whole new generation of fans was born, and You Tube has certainly helped this along where we can see original performance footage, and join music lovers who 'listen & react' online to performances they haven't heard before. As a young woman during the fabulous 80s era of New Wave, New Romantics, etc, I too fell under Benjamin Orr's musical spell - he was part of the soundtrack of my youth. In later life - again thanks to YT, I not only discovered that he had sadly passed away around 2000, but also come to appreciate so much more about his life, his music, and about the man behind the music, and thoroughly enjoy The Cars music and Ben's voice all these years later. His persona on stage (quite electrifying) often contrasts with the sometimes self-deprecating man during interviews. It was a shock to see this beautiful man succumb to pancreatic cancer which visibly ravaged his body, yet during one of his last live performances, he still possessed that exceptional voice. Thank you, Chris, for this 'deep dive' into the life of Benjamin Orr and happy new year!

Thanks for this! Benjamin didn't put much of himself out there given the sort of person he was, but he did put his magnificent voice and music out there for us all to savour. Jimi Jamison was the voice of survivor. and i also think Dave Bickler is a fantastic singer himself. also yes dave can hit the highs easier hes a tenor. while Jimi is a baritone so different vocal ranges. but Jimi was on a different level with his clarity and more heartfelt voice. and jim peterik the founder of survivor. has said Jimi was the best singer hes ever worked with. so Jimi for me.

Dave Bickler was the best for me, I like his tone more, when he returned to Survivor in 1993 after his vocal problems, Dave was in his best phase, I always thought he was more in tune than Jimi, Dave reached the notes more easily, Anyone who can listen well will understand me, in 1999 Dave's problems returned, and even then he sang (Nothing can shake me from your love) live, that was incredible! plays a lot🥁👏
