Traditional Rakugo Funny Story that speaks to our present Coronavirus times!
Great work
I like this. Very cute.
I love this one! Wonderful story about language learning.
How come we never hear from you no more on here?
I found he’s got another channel
This guy speaks very good english :)
At least the little guy was honest 😂😂😂
I got the tuna part right, but only because of makizushi! So I don't know if that really counts xD
After watching this, I feel like #1 student!
also as a note vraimente and serio are two different words. first translate as indeed? or really? and the other seriously? so you should stick to one.
or vraimentte can be translated as truthfully?
Your italian and spanish are very good. You put too much emphasis on words but is ok. french is meh....
4:54 you made a pronounciation mistake at the beginning but who cares french is ugly
2:58 I think you have too strong accent but the rest is spot on
Great & so true
That was a very funny story!
Ah an oldie but a goodie
If you know at least some basic Japanese, you understand all the subtext and everything pretty much from the start, but the clever delivery makes the unfolding story just as riveting nonetheless. I'm not sure if you took this into account, but even as a listener knowing a lot of Japanese (particularly that soap is usually called soap) this whole yarn was still very entertaining!
I teach Japanese at a university in the U.S. I first saw this story performed in Japanese and wanted to show it with English subtitles to my students in beginners' class. Unfortunately, the English subtitles were horrible! For example, the part "バナナ・チョコレート・チップ・ケーキ” was translated as something like "Bananas, chocolate chips, and a book about the beauty of art." Another part, ”通じるか 通じないか…” translated as "there is no time in Aichi." 🤣🤣🤣 Fortunately, I found a comment that mentioned an English version (this!).
Weve gotta seek jeusus guys
That was awesome.
Very funny. It’s true. The Japanese can either be very complimentary, which is on the verge of being fake, or highly critical. Can’t win, and there is no in between - you need to read between the lines to find the truth. Haha😂
I... I think I just realized that Gintama is just a bunch of Rakugo bits lol
What is the name of the wood block on your left side that you slap against your podium?
Cool :)
In fairness, at least that last guy was open to the idea you were a local! :3
I really enjoy your performances, thank you for uploading them! You're bringing to life this culture :)
spoiler: the zoo keeper is the tiger planning its escape
Now that I have my official Katsura Sunshine haori - I can truthfully say that I appreciate all of the intricate details incorporated into the design! This is very good quality denim, the craftsmanship is excellent and the little references to rakugo throughout are absolutely terrific. You will feel great when you wear this piece of clothing. 💙💙💙
Is it still possible to watch dive into Ukiyo-e anymore? They used to run it on NHK world but I haven't seen it in such a long time :(
I never get tired of this story Master Sunshine
hey, what's the name of this story? Well done, by the way- enjoyed it thoroughly!
funny thing is i leaned my face into my hand through this whole story... so does that mean i own you 1000 yen now? 😨
OMG. I wanna eating Yakitori!!!
😆😆😆😆😆
Lovin' it, Sunshine-san! So appreciate hearing this in English, Japanese--and even in Chinese! Wow! (I could only thoroughly appreciate the English & the Japanese since I don't speak Chinese...but have dabbled, and know good Mandarin when I hear it... = grin = ...and it's so fun to hear and feel the deeper sense of unity and appreciation of our common humanity that humor brings to us... that you are expressing and embodying for us so profoundly....so very cross-culturally--even beyond my own known languages. So appreciate your amazing commitment to continuing, cultivating and perfecting your most uplifting and delightful work of embodying our commonality through your performing! So unifying (and dare I say, "healing"?) to encourage us to see all that we have in common as human beings with nearly identical feelings and expressions! Truly my most respectful "katsura's" off to you, Sunshine-san!) Saw you for the first time tonight...on the Seattle channel's late night re-broadcast... so splendidly enjoyed... and had to look for you elsewhere... and... yatta!! Here you are! Delighted to find you here ...so I can continue to enjoy your much-needed, truly "sunshiny" presence, cheer you on, and share your bright light around!
Steven - thank you so much for your comment! Sorry I did not see this when it came in!! I really appreciate your wishes and support. Please do keep in touch! -Sunshine
@@KatsuraSunshineRakugoChannel Oh, thanks so much for your thoughtful and gracious response, Sunshine! You're da best! SAI-KOH! Lookin' forward to trackin' with you, and sharing your de-light-full presence and high-beams with others! Was pleased to see that you have such a nice solid fan-base on your Japanese channel! I'll see if I can help add a few subs" to your English channel...as I share your "spark" around! (I'm "big" on honoring the "spirit" of the person ...whenever possible... and so my words tend to often reflect that., hopefully The deep feeling of the importance of this I've had most of my life...much of Japanese culture seems to have played a big role in this, I think. ... though my getting to know the deeper meaning of "namaste" as introduced to me by the Yoga culture ...helped me to crystalize this. (4 yrs. shorter stay there than you total, but I found that so many of my deepest social instincts...having grown up there, even in coming to the US as, for all practical purposes, an "undercover exchange student" for college showed me. The reason I mention this... I just loved the notion of learning your craft from your master by sort of a "heart-an'-soul" level "osmosis" when you shared both the history of the art form as well as your own journey into it...which I enjoyed thoroughly...even with all of the "downside" of all of the intrinsic expectations, chores and mind-reading level of responsiveness that seemed to be a part of your apprenticeship! So many from western countries would have such a hard time staying with that...due to our understandable sense of personal space and healthy "boundaries". But, like you said, when you first encountered Rakugo, it was, in effect, love at first sight and hearing...like something you were meant to pursue...and I join the many thousands who are so very glad you did...and continue to pursue it! Thanks again, Sunshine! Yoroshiku! )
Wow! I saw your comments about this, but I didn’t know there was a video. I have been traveling to Japan for 12 years now and I have never seen anything like this. Reminds me of 911 in the US. I completely agree that Japanese airlines are more accommodating. Thanks for finding humor in the situation and sharing it with us.
Thank you Kristine - yes it was quite spooky! I knew that was the case but seeing it is different! -Sunshine
あらーま、大阪弁はペラペラやな。

英語より上手いのでは。
Funny story Sunshine.
Thank you Ed!!!!!
A years ago...I can’t believe that!!!! Times really does fly....!!!
Thank you Emu san - isn't it crazy? Can't wait to get back to Broadway!
A great memory from a year ago! (Sorry the music is a bit loud...)
😎😎😎😲😲👺👺👺👺👺👺
Thank you!
Sunshine-san, could I ask you two questions? You didn’t say “Goshido Gobentatsu. When was the phrase added? Also, why are Rakugoka always punished? Did they do anything wrong?
Haha good questions!
Just the intro today!
For me You're the first person who teach me RAKUGO by super fanny and perfect way. Thank you Sunshine teacher!
Haha Emu san thank you!
This is one of my favorite stories - even though it is not a traditional Rakugo story. But you tell it like one, and it really, really works! Very well done, Katura Sunshine!
Thank you so much guys!
Thanks for the update - along with some humor (sometimes reality is funnier than fantasy, huh?)! It felt like I was right there in that empty Narita airport alongside of you! I hope you had an uneventful rest of your trip...and keep an eye out for those pillow thieves!
Cheers! I was actually so surprised at how good the iPhone is on its own for sound and picture. Flight was uneventful and in the end only about eight passengers. Can you believe it?
First, I was amazed that you could convert English words to Katakana Japanese easily. It seems easy, but actually difficult for Japanese learners! Thank you 🙏 for teaching us Japanese!
Thank you sensei!!!!!!
Yes!!! This is one of my favorite one! Thank you Sunshine!!!!
Thank you Emu san!
WOW !!!
Wow is right
That's ridiculous they made you transfer items from your checked bag to your carry on, lol. Welcome back to the US.! Stay safe! ❤ By the way, love the stylish mask. 😊
Thank you so much Alyssa!!!
That's mind blowing.
Yes it was!
