BEST DOG PAW PROTECTION WITH THIS DIY PAW WAX RECIPE
Man I love doggies❤😂
Hi thanks for your video, what should I do about the new dog I have adopted being alot stronger than my other dog and not allowing her to get the ball also he has injured her leg by pushing her out of the way, he is like this with all retrieving games. I realise separate playing sessions is one answer , but he is like this at dog parks also. Maybe I made the wrong decision getting this new dog as he was not cross kelpie as I was told but a 1 year old full German shepherd. He is on a trial period and may be returned to the foster owner. He is well behaved in all other areas but this and unfortunately it's not fair on my other dog
Hi @simsim5919 thanks for checking out my video! It sounds like your new dog has really high prey drive, especially around the ball. I would break this down with other toys first. You definitely will need to train your new dog away from your existing dog to not only protect your dog from being bullied around the ball, but to also help you establish more leadership in your pack. Your older dog needs to see that you won't let the new dog take over. It will make your life so much easier if you train the dogs separately. Have you tried any training with the new dog? If so, what have you tried? I may be able to suggest a few things you can work on.
This is so beautiful to watch

I agree 👍💯💯👍 I love puppies 😁 there my friend and family 💕
Awesome thanks for commenting Dennis 👍
Great Video!!! My first German Shepherd was obsessed with that tennis ball. My new GS puppy is 4 months old. She loves to fetch the ball about 3 times. Then she's bored! What should I do to prevent her from turning into what my first dog was (with ball obsession!)
Hi @davidarmillie4226 thanks for checking out my channel! Congrats on your new pup. I live by the rule of doing all things in moderation. So ball play isn't a bad activity, its just about making sure your dog isn't being rewarded for obsessive or out of control behavior around the toy/stimulus. With a young dog, you can really have fun building up your pup by doing a variety of skills. Follow me drills, watch me, downs with duration, touch, search/find it, and my favorite command -place. If you haven't checked out the place command that is a wonderful command to build impulse control and helps reward calmness.
@@CanineSolutionsDogTraining Thanks! Do you have videos posted about this: "Follow me drills, watch me, downs with duration, touch" skills? Those are new to me.
Ahhh it’s my Tug!! Can confirm, he’s still doing awesome! So thankful for this program! :)
That's cause YOUR AWESOME! Keep up the great work Jen, super proud of you.
What do I do if my dog has a great down and even offers the behavior when I bring the ball out but barks, whines, screams and throws a fit WHILE in a down if the ball is involved?
Hi Meredith, have you tried releasing your dog when they aren't barking? The timing is tricky, but sometimes this just involves making them wait longer, or getting that split second of quiet to break them. Also, have you tried the place command? There are multiple training modules you can do to help your dog learn how to be calmer around the ball.
Watch Cesar Milan. This is just modifying behavior, not fixing the mindset of the dog.
Love the bandana Maple is wearing. And you did a really great job with that explanation too.
Thanks Lisa!
Any suggestions on having toys in the house? I have toys out for inside but it seems to fuel the problem. I am not sure if I am supposed to remove the toys entirely until playtime? Or if there is another method?
Hey El, thanks for watching and thanks for the question. Have you ever worked with your dog on the place command to help with impulse control?
Check out the second half of this video where Slim has to hold place before he gets his toys ruclips.net/video/Pej886hZHCE/видео.html
@@CanineSolutionsDogTraining yes, he does quite well with staying in place. We use “wait” and will toss the ball or run and he will wait until commanded otherwise. But he still will come into the house (outside toys put away) and will grab an inside toy and beg for fetch. Which is why I have debated removing toys inside. It just seems when he has access to any toy and is off command he will obsess
@@el182 Ahh I see what you mean now. A good strong OUT command can help if you want to work him on obedience. Some clients of mine just avoid this struggle by only keeping the toys in a spot they have control over (on a shelf or in a drawer) if its really annoying them. That way they can control when their dog has access to the toys. I like to think of it as a cookie jar...when we were toddlers we didn't get to decide how many cookies we get to eat as our parents typically structured that for us. Hope that helps.
@@CanineSolutionsDogTraining thank you so very much for your insight! Just subscribed 👍🏼
Thank you! My Doberman bit me today obsessed with his ball 🏀 I will incorporate this !
I love my dog but it’s like she can’t live without a damn ball 🤬
Hey thanks for watching! Ya I've met a lot of dogs like yours in my time training. Maple used to be so out of control around the ball. We've had to work at it over time. Just know it is possible to train them off the obsession. It is a a gradual process with really small increments of waiting at a time. Prey drive is normal, it is just up to us as pet parents how much we let them access that intensity in any given moment.
a ball retrieving dog has a ready-made reward for obedience commands. So make use of that!
Where is your location?
Hi Kiyana! We are located in Vancouver Canada
That's a great tip, but what can I do if my dog get's all crazy when I put the ball or toy away and starts biting the leash? It get's hard to walk because she keeps staring at me and ignores the environment.
Thanks so much for watching and responding. Desensitizing the dog to the ball is on my upcoming video to do list so stay tuned!
@Matt Cuddeford you got it Matt. Stay tuned, happy to post another video on this soon.
@Matt Cuddeford hey how's the ball stuff coming along? I forgot to mention a strong down command is also essential to helping a dog work on impulse control. Does your dog know how to hold a down until you give a release command like Break?
Hi! I enjoyed your video, my dog has the exact same issue as this, he will do obedience cues great for his ball reward, but he loses his mind when I put it away. I mean serious frustration, and he escalates his frustration from jumping up, to body slams, eventually to biting my clothes and biting the environment, he regularly hangs from tree branches and fences etc, and won't pay attention to just walking/sniffing. Any ideas how to help with this? He's a working line German Shepherd possibly cross Malinois, his default reaction to over arousal is bite stuff (not aggressive just frustrated) Thanks!
Great job! Awesome trainer!
Great explanation!
Thank you Evan! Coming from you that means a lot!

This is so fantastic to see!! Thanks so much for sharing this. Maple has a new lease on life with Slim.
We crate trained our last dog and it was perfect for him and us. We started early so didn't have much adjustment. It was his area and all we had to do was say "bed" and off he would go. Either at night or if there was something happening and we didn't want the dog around (which was rare). It was also his safe spot. No matter what he did, we could never do anything negative towards him in the crate. We never brought him out unless he wanted to come out. If we had someone taking care of him if we were away then taking the crate to their house made things so much better. And he used it so often on his own. The whole family might be watching TV and the dog would be on the floor and someone would notice he was gone. He'd be upstairs sleeping in his crate. We left the door open when we were away and when he wasn't exploring the house, he would sleep in there. Although sometimes he would get on the sofa too. It would be funny coming home from work and he would be in the living room window looking at us and wagging his tail. We'd talk to him through the window. But when we came in the front door, he was off in his crate. We'd have to call him before he'd race over to greet us. We always anthropomorphized that he was thinking "I got to be in the crate when they come in the door" ignoring the fact that he was at the window when we were talking to him. I would never have an indoor dog that was crate trained. It is his space.
