Drone Infotainment (Mostly)
Channel Announcement - Tim's 2 Cents Worth (T2CW)
Video creation is a ton of work, especially when you produce, film, and edit everything yourself. So in order to lighten the workload on myself, I'm going to be making more work for myself. By releasing more videos in a different format that will sometimes take the place of my weekly Sunday episodes, but not always. Thanks for understanding everyone, I hope you enjoy this new series of sorts.

We've all driven through or flown over small towns in America. We've stopped for gas or a bite to eat and kept on moving. But when is the last time we wondered what the history of that town was? What forgotten stories do these towns hold? You probably wouldn't believe it as you drove through the small town of Willows, but this area is rich in history. Especially aviation. Need a clay gun not a home defense gun with a 18 inch barrel Thanks for the video I have a clay gun and I know what to do know
Hey everyone! Coming back to comment almost nine months after posting this video since I still get several comments a day on it. When we made this video we had no idea it was going to take off the way it has. This was mainly meant as a silly test and an excuse to hangout. At the time, I wasn't even really taking RUclips seriously yet. Since this video the channel has grown a ton and I'm trying to be far more informative and less ridiculous. Mostly. So with that said, this video was never meant to be taken too seriously, but all of the comments I've received since definitely make me want to redo this test in a far more serious manner. We're planning to redo this video at some point with actual drones this time. The only issues we face is finding enough cheap drones and sourcing enough variety of shells to redo the video all while not breaking any FAA Rules and Regulations that could put my Part 107 license at risk. So bare with me while I put this all together, and hopefully we can revisit this in early 2025 with no click bait and better note taking. I promise I'll keep a hold of my pen this time.
Looking forward to it! Thank for the update.
Nice. I just came across this channel today looking up this exact same subject. Not often that you see a 9 month old topic still getting replies. I can imagine there must be a great deal of interest in countering drones right now.
Just a lot of questing
Well, you for sure killed the cardboard, but not sure about downing a drone especially their ability for fast maneuvering (spelling?)
What you are calling tungsten is only 15 g per cc tungsten super shot is 18 g . 20 gauge turkey gun with 8.5 tss and an Indian creek choke would outdo anything you tried .
What about bolo rounds that have buckshot connected with cordage?
This is actually a really interesting idea. I wonder if I can get them in California.
y'all next to an airport? crazy amount of contrails in the sky!!!
North of Sacramento and San Francisco airports! We're in the middle of some massively used fly ways!
You are wearing a vest with multiple pockets and mag holder but you can’t find a place to put your pen 😂 brilliant. Entertaining though 👍🇬🇧 thanks.
I've never claimed to be a smart man 🫡
Well I know for a fact #5 pheasant load brings down drones no problem from 60 yards 🤣. 2 3/4 inch shells, 1.25 Oz lead, about 1350 fps. Years ago when drones were first getting popular one buzzed over my dogs and me while pheasant hunting. This was long before LEOs or conservation wardens ever thought of using drones on the job. No clue where the operator was. No where on my sight horizon. Didn’t have a clue this was illegal. Maybe it wasn’t back then before the FAA established rules on these things? Don’t know. Don’t care.
Steel Shots #1
The number 4 Hevi shot is like a duck load that should be used under 40 yds. Stretching out to 50 is a lucky shot.
I've wondering how .22lr would do as a drone defense weapon? A tacti-cool 10-22 would be a nice choice perhaps? 🤔
Magnetized steel shot 3 inch turkey load, let me know what you guys think after you try it.
Bud light is disgusting
That's why it was used for the dropping experiments. If it exploded on impact very little of value would be lost.
@NorthWindAerial oh, 😂
I liked your ideas for further improvement of the device! Here is the equation for designing a parachute: v_terminal = sqrt((2 * m * g)/(ρ * A * Cd)) Where: m = mass (about 0.4 kg for a full can) g = 9.81 m/s² (gravity) ρ = 1.225 kg/m³ (air density at sea level) A = area of parachute Cd = drag coefficient (typically 1.75 for a round parachute) You can then solve for the Area of the parachute or the terminal velocity.
Pinning this due to the incredible information! Thank you! It's gonna take time for my limited braincells to understand this but I will absolutely be using this to calculate my dropping experiments from now on!
WOW! As soon as I finished this video a cold beer dropped from the sky cold and ready to be drank!! Thanks North Wind Aerial!
Can we agree that “pour one out for the homies” should never be said again 😂
No. Banned.
😂😢
Nice! And Thanks for not harming any Farmers Beer in these experiments. Stick with the bud light stunt doubles.😂
Saving the Farmers drops until all the kinks are worked out 🫡
I'm so glad you changed the spelling
I looked up the spelling to make sure 😅
In a war zone, screw the steel, go with the lead.
We used 2s or 0000 buck for geese. Canadians are hard to down.
If you can shoot blue or green wing teal, you can hit drones. Maybe.
You do. You need a leaf blower.
It appears as though the drone has taken the leaf blowers job. Another position lost to robots.
@@NorthWindAerialnot really, those beds are still fucked up😂

But real talk, I hope your garden is okay because I know how much chlorine you put in that pool.
Maybe your pool will drain all of the water out into the earth crack below. Good luck.
Fingers crossed the dang thing needs replacing at this point.
Wow
Thank you so much for watching! I know this video was a lot longer and a lot more dry than a lot of other videos, but I really wanted to share all this information in a much more serious and easy to learn manner. What tools would you like to see me check out next? What did I get wrong? Did this info help you or would you like more of a topic expanded on? Let me know and I'll get right to work on it!
To really know the effacacy of a 12 guage vs drones, some drones will have to be sacrificed.
Collecting very old or very cheap drones right now for this purpose. Have an idea to suspend them that shouldn't violate any FAA rules either.
I came here expecting to see drones getting shot at, I am mildly disappointed. But I'm gonna take the opportunity to say what I think the most effective anti drone platform would be. Infantry : replace every other rifle in the squad with a fully automatic shotgun with rifled barrels, and issuing soldiers a combination of slugs for better efficacy for mid range engagements; but also buck/bird that's a combo shot of both. Cavalry/Mechanized infantry : CWIS converted to fire 12 gauge chains of bird shot from choked barrels, every 3rd or 4th vehicle having a nearly fully automated CWIS. This would hopefully also be able to make attempts at interception of other munitions as well by filling the skies with a counter battery of small projectiles. For cities mounted atop small and tall govt buildings would be HIMARS and CWIS systems as described below with the existing intersectional radar systems, but adding visual targeting and identification, as well as requiring operator go ahead before firing, and strictly enforced no fly zones near these buildings. For private citizens : shotguns of any length should be legal, including saw'doff shotguns of varying nature; combined with encouraging civilians to test rounds made for targeting drones specifically. Reasoning? The 12ga is lower pressure than 50bmg, but could be easily adapted into a lot of existing platforms, with 12ga being one of if not the MOST produced ammunition in the world behind the combat calibers that exist, so the infrastructure to produce more already exists. Plus we can experiment with carts that do all kinds of stuff, rocket propelled smart slugs that steer themselves into a target within a certain sight picture to impact a preprogrammed target.. you'll fit more of that into a 12ga than a 30cal for sure, and the guns that are single shot can fit some really insane carts like ones that have arrows (remote controlled perhaps), dragons breath, thermite projectiles that ignite on impact, even small explosive charges, or rocket propelled slugs that extend range significantly by burning additional propellant after leaving the firearm.
@scottytherambler6919 definitely made this video before I got super serious about youtube and didn't expect it to blow up the way it did. Travis and I are in the planning stages to redo this test using actual drones with more varied shot sizes and actual drones. Just held up by our main jobs and life responsibilities and FAA restrictions. But we're working on it. Thanks for the great write up, will definitely use the info when we redo this!
@NorthWindAerial right on man. I mean some of it's just my brain saying that in theory it should work, but some of it is just proven logic, like a single shot is great, but full auto or even just really fast semi auto, is going to increase shots hitting even incidentally to a significant degree.

I love to camp there when I ski Snow Mt.
I didn't know Snow Mountain had any ski trails. You do cross country?
Wow! That looks like fun! I used to have a simulator app on my phone that was great for down/time waiting in my old job of pedaling football equipment.
I've got a couple different flight sims and they're all pretty fun. This one is specifically for drones and RC planes! Got it so I can try and get better at fixed wing flying before running out and crashing one straight away.
This is what guys think we mean when we ask if they could successfully land a plane 😂😂😂
😂😂😂
Interesting how all the suggestions in the comments for 10ga in favor over 12ga comes around the same time when TREX LABS uploads their video on drone defense shotguns where they suggest that…
The best 12-gauge ammo for drone defense is a 10-gauge shotgun
I use to fish that lake as a child with my dad and brother. Great fishing from a kayak
Why wouldn't you use a 10 gauge shotgun that easily fires twice the amount of payload as a 12 gauge?!
Lack of 10 gauge shotgun and ammunition.
Maybe try different barrel lengths for what the minimum is for different rounds and ranges
A 10-gauge semi-automatic shotgun is the answer. 2oz. and even 3oz loads of #1, #0, and #00 buckshot could easily reach 80 yards to bring down drones. Bird shot? A normal 12-gauge of #00 (8.38mm) buckshot has only 9 pellets, whereas a 10-gauge will have 18+ Pellets. There is a huge difference.
4B has 56 and T shot has 86
Should be using 12g double or triple BB IN 3 1/2 inch mags but they don’t make them in lead any more because of the ban for migratory birds!! The environmentally friendly steel shot has a very short range and the tungsten heavy shot is super expensive!! They need to bing back lead bb shot shells for drone defence !
That’s convenient!
If a single blade is hit with a small pellets the drone is history
Odd because I've flown with broken props and have seen photos of drones with pellet holes in the props before they were flying just fine.
@NorthWindAerial pellets, ammunition from shotgun is 3 timestamp energy, plus drone for war are pushed to the limits blades revs are at least 2 times faster than regular.
My neighbor in Chico was the wife of one of Dolittle’s Raid members- Ted Lawson. He flew the Ruptured Duck. Great job Tim! Keep them coming!!
That's incredible! I'll have to research into that. Thank you Mrs. Ball!
I was fortunate to have met Pete Mann just a couple of weeks before his passing. He saw me and my van in the parking lot at Nancy’s doing a car job and hired me to work on a lock at one of his buildings at the airport. Job took 15 min but we talked about the history of the Airport etc for probably 45-hour. He mentioned a lot of things you did in this video. Very cool stuff!
Losing him was a huge loss to the community. I'm glad you got to meet him. That's the tough part about knowing so many amazing pilots in the area, everytime we get toned out to an aircraft down I'm terrified it's going to be a friend or family member. I've been on two fatal aircraft crash calls, one being Mr. Mann, and several others that have been near fatalities. Very few calls get my Adrenaline pumping anymore, but aircraft down ones spike it everytime.
The issue is whether or not you can hit a drone sized target as it whizzes through the air at you. Racing drones go close to 200 mph and can turn near instantly.
Yup, this was more of an experiment against standard drones. I'm trying to figure out how to do an experiment against FPV drones.
@ I used to build fpv drones. I’ve got a whole fleet of them sitting around gathering dust in my hobby room. Considering it’s older tech and I don’t really fly them, I’d consider donating a couple to the cause. You’d need your own transmitter to bind with the receivers. I’ve got some old crappy box goggles I’d part with as well. Better eyewear would be preferable. The final piece would be someone who’s actually capable of piloting a racing drone. As I said before, they are incredibly fast and nimble. You gotta put in a lot of hours in a simulator to have any chance of keeping it in the air and in sight.
Absolutely perfect!
