Episode 5 The platform is the most detailed and difficult part of the build but also the most enjoyable from a design point of view. We look at the dimensions and requirements using a half scale model to determine how to proceed. We always have to keep in mind the limited tools available and the need to use easily found materials that require a minimum amount of modification.
Victor EZ micro^camper #2 Seat Belt Back Latch #hondaelement #hondaelementcamper #selfbuildcamper
Просмотров 76Месяц назад
Episode 4 After many attempts to secure the back of the platform in couch mode we finally came upon a solution. Using the seat belts and a simple clamping mechanism we are able to support the back at any angle. Using only hardware out of the bins at Home Depot and our basic tools we can fabricate hardware to make this the EZ micro^camper.

Episode 3 We tackle the first of the Five EZ Pieces , renovating the basement. This involves relocating the spare tire to the roof, building a platform to recess the fridge and making trap door to the lower basement. This is the first step in claiming some valuable space that will maximize this micro^camper's footprint. One giant leap for Elementkind.#selfbuildcamper #camperbuild

Would you be willing to email or snailmail me the outline of the bed platform to Portland, Oregon? I'd be happy to buy a model or some setup you'd enjoy putting together.
Thanks for sharing your easy-yet-sophisticated designs, Victor. I have liberated some parts of your clever builds into my own. With your inspiration, my E is still evolving after more than 18 years. I’ve always enjoyed your channel and appreciate all your effort sharing these projects and journeys with us. 😊 All the best to you both.
Thanks Michael , So great to hear you’ve “stolen” some of my ideas. The only thing I enjoy more than sharing these design ideas is coming up with them. Best of luck with your creation and the adventures that make it all worthwhile. Cheers Victor EZ
Omg Ive been needing something like that first piece. Can you sell them please?? I love your builds they are always so detailed.
My interest is in design and build but not manufacturing. The Victor EZ micro^camper is aimed at those who don’t have the sophisticated tools and skills required to build version one. Basic tools and materials are all that will be required, anyone should be able to build this one . That is my hope.
@ thanks for responding! Okay I’ll give it a try myself thanks for coming up with the idea and sharing 💙
I’m in Paris at the moment but will get back to it when I get home . I’m sure you can do it.
Found this Video just by chance... I'm pretty sure that the solution explained is still state of the art! Before investing in doubtfull or expensive equipment I will try to make this 'MUFF' for my RX100VII and I'm confident that it helps prevent the terrible wind noise I am currently facing whenever taking videos outside! Thank you very much Victor! 👌👌
Lots of solutions glue muffs to the camera . This is a clean way to add sound dampening and I found it very effective. I haven’t used my RX100 in years though . Too bad they never put an audio jack on the IV . Best of luck. V
very neat! your maquettes are always interesting!
A necessary tool along the way. Hope you’re having fun out there!
great video - !
Thank you very much. My wifes rear wiper on her 2013 santa fe quit working, now i know.
Hope it works for you. Cheers
Thank You !!!!
🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
looking forward to it ! Thanks
Under absolutely no circumstances will the arm come off. Puller or not
If you watch the video we suggest going from the inside so you don’t have to remove the arm. I used a puller to get it off before I realized it wasn’t necessary. Best of Luck
Good stuff, thanks for showing the simple fix version. Very helpful.
No problem 👍
😂😂
Glad you got a laugh Cheers V
😅
Very clever and unique system, bravo.
I would love see how you took the side panels out!
Don’t think I shot how they come off. But like taking anything apart you just keep undoing things til it comes loose. The rear hatch lower cover has to come off first , three screws and clips . All the panel screws are inside covered holes, pry open the plastic cap. The square tiedown loops have to be removed . Couple on pins on the inside lower edge, plus one screw on the inside on the rear door. Peal back the rubber gasket at the back and side doors and it should be free. I little prying here and there will release it . If it doesn’t seem to move check that you didn’t miss a screw somewhere. Good Luck
You guys make such a nice couple! You two are relationship goas!
LOVE your setup! 🤯🤩
the element holds wonders :)
Heh Silas , Thanks for dropping by. Tank is getting pretty low …hoping for rain. Elements Rule …V
Thank you so much for this great option. I have a similar story with my fiberglass fire pit and I thought bondo was my only option. I like your idea better. Your pit looks brand new. I will also borrow your idea so I can enjoy my fire pit again. 🙏
Good luck with yours … mine really worked out …this year a few touchups on sides and looks better than new.
Thanks I’ll let you know
Hey Reese, I was the dude in the OBP SC Element that gave you my raffle ticket, I hope that is the one that got you the win.
That would be too funny . I put my ticket in for Thomas because he really wanted the “ammo can “ and got it . What’s a Canadian going to do with an “ammo can “ ?
@@victore6941 Really random that I see this video, and you show Reese winning. I wished him luck.
Clever design. Thanks for sharing your ideas.
Thanks hope it helps .
Thank you for your service Thomas!
Do you have vid or pics of the final bed? Would be great to see.
The bed appears in multiple videos, perhaps try The Victor E Tour Ep 14 Chasing the Dragon. The earlier series Elemental Evolution has a couple of Episodes on making the bed. We just got back from two weeks on the road , Elements on the Dragon meetup. Nothing has changed with the bed design although we are refining how we used it. Let me know if you can't find the info you want and I could explain it.
thanks for showing the full build!!
Always a pleasure....just back from Elements on the Dragon....what a great event !!!
Cannot wait to meet you at EOTD, are you staying at the campground?
We couldn’t get a spot there , will check around when we arrive today
Heh Chuck , Made it back home!!! Hope you recovered….you probably need a vacation now! Cheers Victor E
@@victore6941 I wish I could stay on vacation, but nope I got a whole house painting job to get to. See you next year at EOTD
Work can really get in the way… you take care my friend…we’ll meet again
Good price on the trailing arm mount fix! lol
It would be a write off anywhere else! Real weak spot on CRV/Elements. But the recall warranty bracket fix held the whole thing together to ride another day. Thanks to ingenious Mexican talent.🙏🙏🙏
@@victore6941 I'm impressed... my element got the brackets installed 2 years ago, how long between your recall work and the break?
Mine were about two years ago ….but you’re not thinking of driving the Copper Canyon …are you?
We’re in the salt infested Canadian winter …that really takes a toll.
@@victore6941 I think I'll do a Canadian tour along the Saint Lawrence with my bike.
What was the issue there, the Element looked sufficiently weighted down... is it that the AWD doesn't lock? Wrong tires for loose sand/rocks? The rescue truck was a RWD with no additional weights in the back but I assume it had a locked axle.
We had shredded the front tires on the rough roads , if you call them that. The driver’s side air bag had deployed and the front tire disintegrated. We put the spare donut on which has next to no tread. That doesn’t give you a lot of traction on loose steep rubble on a hard base of smooth rock. Every Mexican gave it a try anyway….love those people! Not sure if our rear axle was gone at this point as well.
Awesome work! Thank you 😊 👍
Loved that camera! Haven’t used it for years though.😦
All the drugs are coming in easily on the southern border...but they have to check the UV. be safe.
LOVE the concept and your methodology to the build.I already have a platform in my Element, but I love the idea of using the seat brackets to support the platform. The support legs toward the front of the platform is a great ideal too, thanks for making this video.
Glad you’re getting some ideas , best of luck with yours, Cheers V
What an amazingly versatile design. Great craftsmanship too!
Excellent build, I'm making my way to the trip video, I can't wait to see it in use.
Glad to have you along! Cheers V
Great job on creating a flat floor on your roof deck. You gave me a good idea for my own rack.
I am impressed with your design skills and can do it attitude. I just got an Element and will continue to return to your videos for inspiration. I am curious what you might have done differently and if you have any changes planned - maybe a new video maybe?
Thanks Eric, Great question….maybe I could answer with what I would do again. No 1 remove spare tire to gain space for fridge below bed frame. No 2 Use the back seat mounts for the bed frame tracks to allow 9” of travel front and back. No 3 Make the bed collapse into itself, slatted and allow the back to fold in two pieces , one 8 and one 16 “ . No 4 Get a roof carrier and attach an awning ARB works great, plus the add on room 8 x 8 x 6 ft. No 5 Use storage containers that fit in the back and also under the bed, these get transferred when you go into bed mode and want everything inside. Used for food and cooking storage . That gives you the basic setup. I wouldn’t bother with the Solar shower …just didn’t get much use and some places don’t let you use them. Ventilation, bug screens , heater plus a good power supply , Ecoflow River Pro plus spare battery 1440 wh with 160 W solar panel and car charging works. Insulated window blinds all round included moon roof a must. Lots of power outlets 12V , USB and 110 V plus ceiling pot lights. The swivel seat from Hiros is also a game changer but expensive. Best of luck with your build. I’ll think on that idea of a video pulling it all together. Cheers V
I want to see the vehicle kitchen setup and the bed too

Thank you for sharing your Element adventures and build.
Great video! Thanks!
Wow! I was rivetted. What a crazy ride and a wonderful story. Good people, angels everywhere, even on a dirt road in the middle of nowhere. Your trust and belief in people, and that all will turn out well, is incredibly inspiring. Thank you for sharing this Francesca and Charles! XOX
Cheers!
I enjoyed watching your build out and crazy trip so much!! I am actually going to watch them all again. Your documentation on the build out was fascinating and informative. Your travel log was even more fascinating and informative! I would have loved to have seen more "in use" footage but you did provide plenty. Korean bbq grill for quesadillas -brilliant! Thank you so much for sharing and teaching the rest of us. Hitting "subscribe" in case you post more.
Thanks so much, very kind. I actually have a lot more footage I never got to. So great to hear you’ve enjoyed it . Never even got to losing the transmission in Zion , having to leave the Element in Utah, returning 4 weeks later to resume the trip and that stretch was one of the most breathtaking parts of the tour.Take Care Happy Trails V
Loved your awning. Can you post what model is it.
The exact model is in the video ....it's ARB 2500 x 2500 Black Aluminum....they are GREAT and well made.
I loved your setup. Glad I came across your video
Helpful, thanks
Wow, remonds me of roads I've travelled in Africa, but with a professional driver and in a toyota land cruiser, I can't!believe you didnthis on an element!!! I appreciate the vicarious adventure! Love your positive attitude through ot all.
Thanks ….sometimes it’s better not to ask whether you should do something…nobody told us not to …so what the hell …we just headed into the unknown naively…the Element is a pretty tough little beast! Cheers V
Congratulations on a genius build. Now we are looking forward to seeing you enjoy it!
Love your videos What kind of wood did you use for the boxes ? They look sturdy and the width of the wood is perfect size
Thanks so much , I always use Baltic birch plywood…very strong for its size so you can keep things thin and lightweight…it also finishes well especially the edges.Cheers V
Home sweet home. Thank you for taking us along on the journey.
