To be honest I don't know what tier is veteran milita in this game and what archers can be picked but in M&B 1 I'd say that Rhodok Sharpshooters would easly waste most lower tier troops in melee.

Just to be technical here, those are recruits, so technically the lowest rank of soldier, so T1. Peasants, which you can encounter from like attacking villagers or in the captivity of bandit factions or camps, are the T0 unit that can be upgraded into recruits. However, they are actually slightly stronger and better in stats than recruits despite being beneath them in rank. I think a cool comparative battle would be seeing how a smaller number of Fian Champions match up against militia archers in large numbers.

Why did the peasants just run straight past them? Seems like a really stupid strategy when they're still getting shredded with arrows

The vlandian sergeants don’t even have their 2 handed weapon anymore, that’s what actually gave them a fighting chance back in the day

Obviously the side who has the high ground has higher chance of winning the battle do it again on a flat map
