Alec is amazing and I was (and still am) a huge fan of The Warmers. Their S/T LP is one of Dischord’s overlooked masterpieces (and I’m grateful I still have it on vinyl). I actually learned how to play the entire album on guitar in my dorm room in 1996-1997; it was easy once I figured out he used an open D tuning. Those are some of my favorite guitar parts because they’re so minimal and creative. You were right that Amy Farina’s drums were the main attraction (and pretty much the lead instrument), but Juan and Alec’s guitars and vocals were so thoughtful, interesting, and exciting.

Amazing interview. Thank you! Guy is one of my very few heroes. This is something I’ve been wanting since high school in the early-to-mid-90’s when I first discovered Fugazi and Guy. “Latin Roots” was my favorite song so it’s amazing to hear its meaning from the horse’s mouth. The entire Steady Diet discussion was priceless, but I wish you also asked him about “Exit Only” since that one has his most enigmatic lyrics from that album. “Runaway Return” is another favorite, but it’s an easy enough one to parse.

Fantastic episode Conan. Really enjoyed Chris’ guitar playing with Rollins Band; didn’t realize he was a part of Tool’s Undertow recording session with Sylvia Massey, the shotgun and the piano. Did I hear that right? lol Anyhow, great stuff in there for music nerds throughout this podcast!
