Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450 - First Service Done - This Is Going To Be Good ! This Bike Is A Riot
I began the New Year by running Attila, my Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450, over to Motos Matilla in Almería for his 300 mile / 500 km first service.
For logistical reasons I ended up spending the night in Almería and witnessed their beautiful Christmas illuminations. In this video I show you these illuminations as well as a couple of additions that I have made to Attila since you last saw him.
On the ride home I give you a bit of a general news update and also let you know what I am liking and disliking about my new Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450.
My gripes are extremely minor and one of them can be easily sorted out.
What I like about this bike could fill an extremely thick book.
Just listen to me ...

      So I take it you won't be ordering one then Simon 😂 It's not something I ever considered putting on any of my bikes but when they offered to send me one, I decided that I would be interested to see what it's all about. It's really not complicated to use, if you can operate your smartphone. It's nice to have tyre pressure monitoring and dash cams ( particularly if you ride a lot in traffic ) and the CarPlay stuff is an added bonus, mainly because you then get a nice big screen to display Google Maps from your phone. It's okay and certainly worth the money. But I don't think that a classic looking bike would look right with a big screen on it. You need a touring or ADV bike for this sort of thing really. If you change your mind Simon and Zen, don't forget to use my discount code to get 22% off 😉😇 Cheers Simon and Zen, Garry & Ruby 🐕"Fanks ! Nice patting !"

    • @economicalrides
      @economicalrides День назад

      @@owlteachereducation Hi. Easy answer. The same size as the OEM tyres. In Spain we have the homologated tyre sizes in the bike’s paperwork, so you can’t deviate from the OEM tyre sizes. It would invalidate your insurance and you wouldn’t pass the tech inspection with any other tyre sizes in fitted. But these Metzeler tyres feel excellent in the bends as they are. Cheers 🙂 Garry

      @@owlteachereducation Fortunately the Guerrilla has very common tyre sizes so we have plenty of options. I love the RoadTecs though. You can feel the grip of the softer compound they put on the tyre edges. The bike feels grippier on the side of the tyre than on the centre 😂 I'm not sure how quickly the edges will wear down but frankly I'm not too bothered, if a need a new pair, I'll buy a new pair. They feel that good ! Cheers bud, Garry

      @@economicalrides Thanks Garry - went to see one yesterday here in Bangkok. Bit tall for it (6' 2") - will need handlebar risers and a taller seat methinks if I decide to buy one... Let's see!

    • @economicalrides
      @economicalrides 16 часов назад

      @@owlteachereducation Wow. My channel reach extends as far as Bangkok, amazing ! Yes. The combination of a fairly low seat height and fairly high pegs, does make for quite a compact rider triangle. I am about 5'8" with a 30" inside leg and my legs are just ever so slightly too cramped on the bike. I can see why you would need more space for your legs and higher bars to save your back and shoulders, definitely. Bar risers shouldn't be a problem but so far I haven't heard of a taller seat for the Guerrilla. Have you heard of one ? If the seat base can't be made any higher, you would have the option of getting the seat reupholstered to a greater thickness. You could end up with a Guerrilla that feels like a sofa to sit on. Super plush ! 😂 Good luck. It's a great bike for the money and a lot of fun but of course it has to fit you, that is important ! Cheers bud, Garry

    Hi Garry. I meant to comment on Tuesday, but got lost. The colour of the Guerrilla is slowly growing on me, seeing it out in the light. I still like the pretty blue on, although I can see why you were staying away from the TFT clock. The basic clocks are fine. On the topic of mirrors, if you don't mind what happens to the original mirrors, it possible to modify them to improve visibility. Take the mirrors off and increase the Ben in the mirror stalk, as the mirrors move down, they also move outward. Do this incrementally until they sit about 10cm above your hands. This greatly improves rear visibility. While bending, remove all the nuts and rubber from the stalks, clamp the stalks in a protected/ soft jaw vice. Pot some protection over the screw threads and start bending. A piece of pipe or a large ring spanner is helpful here. If it works, keep them. If not buy bar ends. PS. Never had anyone stop me and sa Why.

    • @economicalrides
      @economicalrides 2 дня назад

      Morning Tim ! I did initially think that I would go for the blue and white one because it was quite striking when I first saw it. The more I saw it though, the more I found it a bit OTT, what with the blue frame and all. I think over time I would have found it to be a bit garish for my tastes. And once I found out that the analogue dash wasn't going to be available as an option, of course that more or less killed it for me. But yes, of the other colours, the blue and white one is the most attractive to my eyes ( even if as an old geezer, I now find it a bit "shouty" ). Not only do I like how Attila looks in silver, I also imagine that very few people will buy the silver one because most people will probably want the TFT dash. So I think Attila is going to be one of very few Guerrillas in this spec, so it's nice to have something that's likely going to be a rarer sight on the roads 🙂 Aww, thanks for the mirror modding advice Tim. Unfortunately I don't have a workbench or a vice ( or vise for our American cousins - confusing aren't they ? 🤔) so my attempts at modding the mirrors aren't likely to end well ! I'm sure that it would be possible, as you describe it, just seems a bit above my pay grade 😂 I envision it ending in snapped steel, much broken glass and even more swearing. I would prefer the look of the bar end mirrors anyway, so I just need to keep saving my pennies until I can go out and get them. Then Attila will be finished. There is nothing else that I would like to do to him. Literally nothing ! He's handsome and ready for some serious action once the weather warms up a bit 👍 Thanks Tim, I appreciate the advice but unfortunately I don't really have any sort of workshop here and I don't fancy tackling it without the proper equipment because in my experience proper equipment is important ! If you tackle a job without it, the job becomes much harder and is much more likely to go wrong ( ask me how I know this 😇 ). Have a great weekend Tim, whatever you are up to ! Garry & Ruby ❤🐕

I gather that the weather there has been pretty miserable of late so probably not much riding being done. It's a bit of a struggle here at the moment too. It is very cold and the roads are often wet from the salt as it melts the early morning frost, so I'm only venturing out when I see that the roads have dried, which can take a while when the temperatures are so low. If the roads aren't dry tomorrow, I will take Norman out and film something. That's what I bought him for, to ride when I didn't want to risk the others. Of course, once I get back, I will try to scrub off as much of the salt as possible but I want to ride again, so I'll just have to risk it ! Hola Garry, I knew you would love the Guerrilla!. I'm very envious of the Spanish weather, but at least here it's dried up a bit and I can tinker in my bike shed. I've got the Aocci installed now and it is a lovely bit of kit, (discount code CMD22...😇) but if connected to the battery directly it's on all the time and if via USB, it's only on when the engine is running. I suspect the RE port will be the same. Currently awaiting a response on that from Aocci and also BSA. Anyway, it certainly works ok! Greetings to Ruby from Kernow where the Sausages run free...🌭

    • @economicalrides
      @economicalrides 4 дня назад

      Hi Andy. That's absolutely normal, what were you expecting ? I covered this in part one of my review. When the unit is receiving power, it is on. It has no physical switch. That is why previously Aoocci instructed people using their supplied power supply to connect the red lead to a SWITCHED live on the bike, i.e. a live that is only live when the ignition is on. If you connect both leads directly to the battery, then of course the unit is always on, because it always has access to power. It will be on until it has drained your battery, then it will go off 😛 So if you wire in the supplied power supply as intended, into the ignition circuit, the unit would be on WHENEVER THE IGNITION IS ON. So the engine wouldn't have to be running. I see a danger in that because if you faff about with the unit for too long, with the engine off, you will find that your battery drains very quickly. Fortunately we don't have to worry about any of that because we have USB ports on the bike and Aoocci now supply a lead for direct USB power to the unit. In that case, the unit will be on WHENEVER THE USB PORT IS ON. In your case and with the RE USB ports as well, these are indeed only live when the engine is running. For good reason. That way, if you are faffing about with the ignition on and the engine off, whatever you have hanging off the USB port isn't going to be additionally draining your battery. As I mention in part two of my review, you really should avoid using the unit with the engine not running because I have watched the battery voltage dropping at an alarming rate when doing so. Under no circumstances would I recommend fiddling with the unit powered on and the engine not running ( I can do that on Norman because I can switch my USB port on and off manually, so without the engine running it will supply power to whatever is attached if I just switch it on - because it is connected directly to the battery and not the ignition circuit ) because the unit can drain your battery very quickly. It's just a bad idea. So the fact that in your case ( and with the RE factory USB ports ) the unit only comes on when the engine is running ( i.e. when the USB port is powered ) is actually a bonus. It will stop you from draining your battery with the unit. If you don't want the unit on during a specific ride, you can now easily power it off by removing the USB lead from the port. It's perfect. Idiot-proof in fact, much better than wiring it into the ignition circuit and having it on whenever the ignition is on. That has great potential to have you inadvertently draining your battery whilst you are faffing about with the ignition on and the engine not yet running. Not a lot Aoocci can do to help you Andy. The unit is on when it has access to power. That can be always ( when connected directly to the battery - bad idea ! ), when the ignition is on ( when connected to an ignition switched live wire on the bike - okay idea but it would be wise to start the engine sharpish to avoid draining the battery ) or whenever the USB port has power ( when connected to a USB port only ). It's logical. That's how things that run off electricity work 😛 Since the unit has no physical switch ( not a great idea anyway because people would constantly forget to turn it off and then complain that the unit had flattened their battery ! ) it is going to be on whenever it is connected to a live power source. That's just the way it is., not sure what you would want changed 🤔 It's a great little thing and the addition of the lead for USB power is a game changer, it makes the installation so much easier for those of us fortunate enough to have a USB port on our bikes. And let's be honest, even if you don't have a USB port from the factory, you can add one for less than 20 EUR and would then be able to power this unit without plumbing in wires to the battery. Superb ! Everyone should have one and in purchasing one they should be sure to use the discount code EcoRides 😉 Have fun with it Andy ! Cheers, Garry & Ruby ❤🐕"Did you say sossidges ? Where ?"

      Hi, thanks for dropping by 🙂 In previous videos it is well documented that I didn't like the TFT dash after testing it on both the Himalayan 450 and the Guerrilla 450. I have multiple issues with it but here are just a few : 1. To me it looks like it is going to be easy to scratch it and ruin it. It doesn't strike me as being very durable. Folks should certainly be very careful when wiping it clean to avoid micro scratches. 2. It is well known that because of its refresh rate, the TFT dash flickers in recorded video ( for most cameras ). If you are going to be vlogging all of your rides, you don't really want to be subjecting your viewers to all of that flickering. 3. Here in Spain, when the sun is high in the sky, I struggled slightly to read the smaller things on the display. Things like the little green triangles to show that the indicator is flashing don't jump out at you in the same way as a good old fashioned green flashing LED ( idiot light ). 4. As with most of these integrated systems, the RE Tripper navigation requires you to have planned your route in the manufacturer's own app. The RE app is a bit of a nightmare to use unless your destination is a specific address. If you try to put in a nice scenic route for a weekend ride out, it will take you absolutely ages to get it into the app and then sometimes, when you get to your bike, the route you spent hours putting into the app is no longer in the app on your phone ! Imagine how I swore !!! 😂 I have two bikes with Tripper pods which I never use for this very reason. I want my navigation to take me on a pre-planned route, I'm never trying to find a specific address. Just like many other manufacturers' apps, the RE app makes putting in the route that you would like to ride very difficult. Since I have two bikes with Tripper pods and don't use those, I know that if I had the Tripper TFT dash, I would never use its navigation features, so that's one less reason to like it ! The two first things I fit to any new bike are a charging lead for a maintenance charger and a QuadLock mount for my phone on the bars. If I ever need to navigate, I can use Google Maps on my phone and don't have to faff about using frustrating proprietary apps 🙂 5. When I am out on a bike, I really only want to know how fast I am going, possibly at a pinch, how many rpm am I doing ? Do I have my lights on ? Are the indicators on ? How much fuel ( approx ) do I have left ? Is anything critical about to fail ? I really only need a clock or two and a handful of idiot lights and I am happy. Everything beyond that I just find distracting. So there you go. Apart from that I love it 😛 I was very fortunate that RE fitted the base version with analogue instruments because if they hadn't given us that option, I wouldn't have bought a Guerrilla ! It's a bonus that the plain silver of the base version also looks the best ( in my opinion ). I wasn't a fan of ANY of the multi-colour options. With the analogue dash I am missing out on the rev counter and a temperature readout but other than that I see no advantage in the TFT screen. I wouldn't use it for navigation for the reasons mentioned and in every other regard, to me, it is less easy to read and too full of stuff I don't need to see. The analogue clocks also look much nicer in my opinion 🙂 Each to their own I guess but I am greatly relieved that RE hasn't forced me to buy a bike with the TFT screen. For me, the analogue dash is the one to go for and I am grateful that RE gave me that option. Yes. This was a long answer but I think the question was deserving of one. There are multiple reasons why I have an aversion to the TFT dash, as you can see 🙂 If you have any specific things you'd like to know about owning a Guerrilla, always feel free to ask me and I'll do my best to give you a helpful answer ! Cheers sir ! Garry

      Hi Bob. If you want a sporty ride which won't break the bank and doesn't require you to be doing 100 mph to be riding it hard, then you can't really go wrong with one of these with some decent tyres on it. For me it is the best value RE currently available. Having some decent suspension on there really makes a difference and on the Guerrilla the decent suspension is also really well set up. Any idea when the Guerrilla will be hitting your shores ? Get a test ride if you can because although you can bimble around at 50mph on one of these, when you do that, it all feels a bit generic and bland, just like any other modern motorcycle. I think this bike's character will only become apparent when I am able to rev it harder and feel that mid range to top end shove. When it starts to pull hard you do get a decent amount of induction noise and more bark from the exhaust ! It is certainly a very different proposition to the 350s and the old Himalayan and Scram. Anybody looking for that usual RE character and charm would probably be better off looking elsewhere in the range. But anybody looking for an affordable, well made sporty ride, should definitely consider the Guerrilla and depending upon just how sporty you want to ride, maybe swap out the OEM tyres for something better. Attila feels eminently better on the road than the demo bike did, particularly noticeable on the side of the tyre ( the RoadTec has a dual compound construction with a softer compound on the edge of the tyre and you can actually feel the difference ). I am just very glad that I came down on the side of "Yes, buy it !" because if I had chickened out and not bought it, I would have been missing out on a lot of fun ! Cheers Bob. Take care, stay safe 👍 Garry & Ruby

    Hi Garry, these bikes are definitely a riot…just like my Speed 400. Even initial running in is not a chore as they still have a decent performance and YEAH first service done and it’s away. I agree, on fun roads this class is a hoot. Interestingly, I have a similar thing with the fan cutting in even on a chilly Christmas Eve Santa ride with the fan starting on the High Streets - my current thoughts are that like the 350’s and Himalayans that need 2k + miles to free up these modern liquid cooled singles are equally tight and careful running in should benefit longevity. Christmas in Almeria looks amazing.

      Hi Pete. Thanks as always for watching and commenting 🙂 I'm surprised by how quickly the fan comes on in these freezing temperatures but RE have probably been very conservative with their temperature management and when they notice that the bike hasn't been moving for a while, maybe the ECU triggers the fan, rather than a temperature sensor. Of course they would also have a temperature sensor trigger for the fan, but that might only kick in when the water temperature is seriously high. If the fan is currently coming on because the temperature is too high, then that does beg the question of how well the engine will cope with summer temperatures of 40C+ in city traffic ? I mean, I'm sure it is designed to deal with it, but if the engine is SO DEPENDENT on the fan working to not cook itself, then you are going to have a problem if one day the fan or the fan switch stops working 😱 Time will tell I suppose. Fortunately, due to a total lack of traffic around here, my bike tends to only be stationary and running when I am putting it in the garage 😂 I do think these LC 400s and 450s have just the right amount of power for enjoying twisty roads. You can feel like you are riding them hard without doing three figure speeds everywhere. Safer for both your health and your licence 👍 Looking forward to hitting 2000 miles ( even though the manual says 2000km, in my experience RE's bikes keep on improving up to about 3000-3500 km ) when I will be able to rev Attila out a bit more 👹 But even 6000 rpm is enough to have fun and take him onto the motorway if I have to. Cheers Pete. Stay safe. Stay warm. Garry & Ruby

    Hi mate, been a long time since I’ve spoken to you. Sorry about that. I’ve found it really hard to get back into the swing of things since my dad passed. I hope that you are doing well? How is Ruby? Do you still have your Meteor? Take care and I’ll try keep in touch. Kind regards, Jon (was MM350).

      Blimey Jon ! Just the other day I was thinking of you and wondering how your channel was getting on, because I remember that we started at more or less the same time !!! I kind of lost track of your channel when I noticed that you hadn't posted an update in a long time but now the reason for that becomes apparent. I totally understand. It must have been very hard to take. I lost my Dad a couple of years ago and I often find myself thinking "Oh, I must tell Dad to watch that, he'd be interested in that" and then I remember that he is no longer here 😢 Unfortunately it can't be avoided, it happens to us all, unless we manage to somehow die first, which I suppose isn't a great prospect either ! Ruby is still gorgeous, happy and enjoying her "sossidges". Buddy ( my Meteor ) is of course still here. He will be the last bike I sell ! Since about 20 months ago he has been joined by Norman the Himalayan 411 ( for riding mountain trails mainly ) and at the end of 2024 by Attila the Guerrilla of course. So I am up to three bikes now, all REs and all completely different and all with a specific job to do. I sold my track bike to make space for Attila, since I haven't done a track day in about seven years and the last time I did one, I decided that I'd had enough of them. Do you still have the Meteor and the CBR500 or whatever it was. The Honda sports twin ? Thanks for getting back in touch Jon. It really was only last week that I was wondering what you were up to ! Take care Jon. All the best from Spain ! Garry & Ruby ❤🐕"Nice one Jon !"

      @ We did start around the same time yep! I’m happy to see that your channel has been growing 🙂 It’s great to hear from you, even better to hear that things have been going well. I thought that you would still have your Meteor, they’re such brilliant bikes. I’m sorry about your dad too, it really is difficult. As you say, it does happen to us all. Time heals, I’ve only really now just started to accept it. I no longer have both the Meteor or the CBR500r as I was struggling with my health (still am), and unfortunately I was in incredible pain while riding both of them. So I traded them in for a new Honda NC750X DCT model, which being automatic, helps me a lot managing my pain. Also the seating position is much better for me. The feet forward Meteor was causing pain in my lower back. As much as I never wanted to part with the Meteor, it was the right thing to do for me. Although, I still miss it and have a soft spot for them. I got married in 2023 and my wife and I enjoy touring on the bike. We took the Meteor to Wales for our honeymoon and toured Snowdonia. We’ve been back since on the NC750X twice and love the scenery. Trying to plan a trip abroad for next year 2026. I’d love to do Spain, so many beautiful roads and lovely scenery. The weather is a bonus too! I saw you had the Himalayan and now the Guerrilla! They are both great machines! I’ve been eyeing up the Guerrilla myself 😂 Although, the Honda CB350S is now available in the UK and it reminds me of the Meteor so much, but with a more relaxed seating position. I will definitely be watching your videos and keeping up to date with your adventures! I’ve also got a Honda Dax 125cc 2023 which I got brand new. Can’t believe I’ve had her nearly 2 years now. Such a fun little bike. Does about 180mpg which is insanely good. Although, with me riding her, she doesn’t push much more than 55mph comfortably 🤣 Take care and I’ll make sure to keep in touch. Ride safe. Jon :)

      @@Subject__017 Hi Jon. Sounds like you've been pretty busy, buying bikes and getting married ( see how I set my priorities there ? 😛 ). The Dax looks like a lot of fun and Ruby wants us to get one because it has a connection to "sossidges" doesn't it ? 😂 I wouldn't mind one myself but a 125 scooter would probably be more practical, with my sensible head on ! The NC with the DCT is a cracking bike, should never let you down. My buddy Exeter Rider ( he's Exmouth Biker really ! ) has one and it certainly is a great commuter or touring bike. After a bit of me extolling the virtues of the Meteor, he fell in love with them when he had one from RE on long term test. He said "Now I know what you meant about the Meteor. There's nothing else like it !" 😇 He now owns one himself, which he bought second hand and he absolutely loves it. A special bike indeed ! If you should ever make it down to this part of Spain on your travels Jon, give me due notice and I'll try to arrange to meet up with you somewhere ( if it's not too far away - I have to get back for Ruby of course ! ) The CB350 is supposed to be a nice bike but reviewers say that the engine doesn't have the character of the J-Series. Have you considered the Hunter 350 or even the Bullet 350 ? They might be alright ergonomically too and they both have that gorgeous, smooth and soulful J-Series engine that you remember from the Meteor ! 🥰 Congratulations on your marriage Jon and enjoy your bikes. It was great to hear from you again. Yes, please do follow my adventures on Buddy, Norman and Attila. I'm still just about managing to crank out one video per week, somehow, getting on for four years later 😅 Really enjoying the Guerrilla now of course. I'm so glad that I decided to buy one because it is so much fun to hoon about on, even now when I can't use all of the revs 😛 It seems to have given the channel a boost as well, so that's a bonus. People always seem to enjoy watching somebody get to grips with their new bike, it seems. Cheers Jon and Mrs Jon. Take care and have fun. I look forward to hearing more about your adventures in the future. Much love from Spain and best wishes for 2025, Garry & Ruby ❤🐕

      Hi Kev. Thanks. Glad you enjoyed the lights too. I didn't have my cameras with me when I was out on the wine but when I saw the Christmas lights I really wanted to share them with my viewers. Fortunately I did have my phone with me ( not a given by any means ! ) and was able to grab something with that to add into this video 👍 The Guerrilla is wonderful, particularly on these tyres. It feels like a proper little sports bike. I think, when it is run in and I can ride it more like a two stroke, that it will be just perfect for the roads around here. It should have just the right amount of power to compliment the fine handling. I should be able to ride in an enthusiastic fashion without going twice the legal limit or being too close to the limit ! Riding this bike at 7 or 8 tenths should be a ton of fun without feeling scary at all. I think Attila will be able to keep up with plenty of the locals on much bigger bikes without trying too hard and that's always fun ! 👹 Thanks again Kev, appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment. All the best from Spain, Garry & Ruby

      Well, we all have different tastes I suppose and whilst the demo bike was certainly funky and in your face, I prefer to see the lines of a bike, so generally the less colours and stickers it has on it, the more you can appreciate its looks. Buddy and Norman ( in his own "take me on an adventure" sort of way ) both look clean and are good looking bikes. I just applied the same notion to the Guerrilla and that meant that the silver one was the only one that appealed to me visually. It was a happy coincidence that it was the only one that didn't have the TFT dash, which I am not a fan of ! I am getting a surprising number of comments from people who are impressed by how good Attila looks, so that is reassuring. A few of them lament that the silver is not available with the TFT dash, because they really want the TFT dash ( for some reason 😛 ) on their Guerrilla. It is a shame that the TFT dash is not an option on the silver Guerrilla because if it was, I think there would be no reason to buy any other colour ! 🤗 So far, whenever I have pulled up on Attila, he has drawn admiring looks, so I think a lot of us think that he looks pretty smart 👍 Thanks mate. I will let Attila know that you like him 🙂 Stay safe. Stay warm. Garry & Ruby

    Hiya Garry, I agree with you about the indicator switch, not at all tactile, mine's exactly the same. Fuel consumption, mine is regularly doing 75mpg in the colder months and around 80mpg when the temperature rises. You're right about the range also, my low fuel indicator comes on at around 150 miles and the range indicator tells me that there is 51 miles left in the tank which seems pretty accurate. The lowest i have run mine down to is showing 10 miles left in the tank and had no issues with that. Which bar end mirrors are you thinking of fitting, genuine RE or Hitchcocks?🤔 Great Vlog as usual and those Christmas lights were stunning!🙂👍

    • @economicalrides
      @economicalrides 5 дней назад

      Hi Jonathan, thanks for the confirmation that it's not just me who wishes for a tactile click when engaging the indicators 👍😛 Thanks too for your tank range estimation. Of course, because I own the poverty spec Guerrilla, I don't have a range indicator, I only have two trip meters to play with. My 200 miles, if you were brave enough, estimation seems about right then. But if this engine is anything like the 350s, fuel economy will drop by about 25% at motorway speeds, which would mean that 150 miles might be pushing it a bit and maybe on the motorway we should be looking to fill up just the other side of 100 miles (?). If you do get to do a motorway run, it would be great if you could let me know how it affects your fuel consumption figures. On the 350s your range dropped massively once you rode at 60 mph and beyond. I probably won't get to do one because the motorways here are too far away, too boring and I don't really ever need to use them 🙂 I am intending to purchase the gorgeous but expensive RE black round bar end mirrors with the appropriate adapter kit. I find the rear view on Buddy so large and clear that I think they are just about worth the money. I know them. I am happy with them on the Meteor, so don't feel like making any experiments with other mirrors, even though there are probably cheaper options available. The Guerrilla is proving to be such a hoot so far. Absolutely loving it and can't wait to pass 2000 km and finally start revving Attila a bit harder 👹 Thanks again Jonathan. Stay safe and warm ! Great video as always...enjoyed the scenery around Tabernas. A quick question...was re-watching an old vid of 2 year review of Ruby & noted you could easily flat foot with a slight bend in your knee...am interested in getting a Meteor myself so what seat did you have on that vid, std, touring or low rider & out of curiosity what is your inseam/ inside leg as it's that measurement not your actual height (5ft7 or 8 you said) that determines being able to flat foot. I have a short stretch of uneven ground to negotiate on quite a side slope behind my house so need to get my feet down. Thank you so much & keep up the good work...love the channel. Happy New Year to you & Ruby

    • @economicalrides
      @economicalrides 6 дней назад

      Evening Paul. Thanks for watching ! I think you are referring to the seat on Buddy the Meteor. Ruby was my Classic 350 ( now sadly gone ). On Buddy the Meteor I have the touring seat with no modifications. The standard seat is as near to the same height as makes no difference by the way. I have mentioned it in a few videos over the years but my inside leg is about 30". Never measured it myself, could be 29" but 30" jeans are the ones I need to buy if I don't want to have to turn them up to stop them dragging 😛 The Meteor is usually fine for most people, even the shorter legged among us. But if you have tricky terrain to negotiate with the bike, then yes, make sure that you feel comfortable with the amount of foot that you have on the ground. In that situation, the more, the better. If I were you I would just go into a dealership and sit on one with it off the stand. That should give you an idea of how comfortable you would feel manhandling it in your garden. The Meteor has a fairly low seat height and the front of the seat is quite narrow, it only widens at the rear. So if you shift yourself right up to the front of the seat so that you are up against the tank, you can usually get a bit more foot on the ground than you would if seated normally, so make sure that you try that too. But the best way to make sure that you will be okay with it, would definitely be to actually sit on one and move it around a bit, if you can. If I can help you in any other way, please let me know. It's why I do this thing ! Thanks Paul. Nice to hear from you ! Have a great ( possibly "Meteoric" ) 2025 ! Garry & Ruby

      Hi Mike. Haven't had this giggle factor since the Street Triple R and that cost about twice as much ! If you do get one, make sure that you have the money left over to get some decent tyres on there right away The CEATs are fine for 90% of the time but the Metzelers egg me on to push harder and when I do, it's not even scary. You will get a lot more out of the bike sooner, with some nice tyres on it. Well worth the 250-300 quid extra for the fun it adds if you ask me. I will get something similar for Buddy this year, since he is due some new tyres soon. Even though I have never felt that his CEATs were lacking, I am now aware of the difference quality tyres can make to your riding enjoyment. So Buddy will get the stickiest Metzelers I can find in his size. I think that I would have built up my confidence a lot more slowly on the CEATs. The Metzelers just feel like you always have a lot of tyre and a lot of grip left to go and that's because you do. The RoadTecs have a dual compound construction I believe, so the edges are considerably softer than the centres. And that just feels sooooo good and inspires so much confidence when you are leant over ! I am not pushing things on these cold roads at the moment but once there is some heat in the tarmac, I think that peg scraping could be a genuine possibility 😛 Exactly. I am doing as many rides as I can, even short ones, just to get Attila run in in time for the warmer weather. Should be no problem. It won't be properly warm here until May at the earliest. Until then I shall just wobble about grinning wildly and making sure that I get those 2000km done. Cheers Mike, Garry & Ruby

      Just been taking another look at your video and then checking out the RE website. What appealed initially about the still photo at the beginning of your video was that the front end (forks) looked more traditional than the usual flimsy looking upside down ones one sees on other machines. Now I realise they're perfectly adequate on said bikes but to my traditional eyes they look wrong. Your Attila (apologies for incorrect spelling earlier) doesn't and then as we move further back w get that very shapely fuel tank. The theme continues with the side panels and even though it's a monoshock design, somehow RE have made it look SO good. The simplicity of line of your silver/grey choice enhances this overall look. Beautifully chosen (and very ER). Now this isn't really a bike for my sort of riding unfortunately otherwise I'd be severely tempted... I'm going to have to take a trip to Preston though to have a good look at one. 😍

      @@Lanes-Explorer5733 Wow. So nice to hear that Peter because I wasn't expecting you to be a fan. I think what you will also appreciate is the low seat height ( well at the front at least, you might struggle a bit more to get your boot over the rear of the seat, maybe ? ) and the lightness of the bike. It always feels like my lightest bike to me although Buddy is probably lighter on the actual numbers. I am surprised how smooth and easy Attila is to ride at 50 mph and below, you can definitely cruise around without going mad but you are certainly not chugging about, like we are on the 350s. It just feels much more modern and certainly lacks some character if you choose to ride it in a leisurely fashion. Definitely have a look and have a go on one if you can Peter. I think that it is an incredible amount of bike for the money. But it always feels like a modern motorcycle, unlike our other REs. It's not going to be a nostalgia trip for many, although it does remind me of my Street Triple in the way that it just loves to go around corners ! Cheers Peter. I shall be sure to let Attila know that he has a fan in Morecombe 👍 Garry & Ruby

      Abend Stephan. Ich denke das ist einfach ein Aquädukt. Ist zu schmal um eine Bahnlinie zu sein und zu aufwändig gebaut um für eine Strasse zu sein. Evening Garry I feel your excitement mate and I bet a lot of that confidence come from those Roadtec tyres, I would imagine, I love mine on the classic, changed its road manners completely, sad the malagutti gone every biker should have a scoot in the garage 🤣🤣🤣 you ought to ride a XB Buell, fans on all the time in hot weather and sounds like a piper cub taking off 😂😂😂, can imagine some brain calibration is called for 🤣 Bonne Anee n Bonne sainte to you Garry n mum, chilli says happy new year to Ruby, looking forward to spring 😊….. thems in 🥶 Normandie

    • @economicalrides
      @economicalrides 6 дней назад

      Hi Pete. Yes, I was thinking that. The RoadTecs have a dual compound construction, so they are harder in the centre and softer on the edges. On Attila it really feels like you have sports tyres on the bike, probably because the edge compound is very grippy. I am so chuffed that I went large and binned the CEATs right away. I am sure that the CEATs would have been fine for most riding but I feel like the RoadTecs are going to help me to get the most from the excellent chassis. They are egging me on to lean further, corner faster. And that's really what this bike needed to be all about, to justify its place in my garage. So with the RoadTecs it really does feel more like a sports bike, which of course is something that I was missing with the other two. So I specced the bike perfectly for its intended purpose I reckon. Just need to get those bar end mirrors and Attila will be perfect, won't need to do anything else until something wears out. With regard to brain recalibration - the other day I popped down to the next village on Norman to get some shopping. I had recently been riding that road on Attila. I went into a bend at Attila speeds without thinking and Norman started bucking and weaving, trying to spit me off. Scared me to death he did ! So yes, I will have to have different rider modes for each bike if I am to survive for much longer 😂 Very cold here. Not biking friendly at all. But the temps are up and down like crazy lately so if they go back up a few degrees again, I should be able to get out without it being too bad 🤞 Take care you lot. Much love from Spain. I think I will making more videos where I will need to blank out the speedo in post 😂 But that's what I bought him for. I have other bikes for chilling and being sensible. At least with Attila the hooning is going to be at more or less legal(ish) speeds unlike with the Street Triple where just as the fun started, you were probably already doing 100 mph. That is not a good idea on these roads and neither is it good for your license ! Keep watching Pete. I think you could probably be tempted, unless I suddenly discover an unexpected downside to Attila ! Love to you and the Normandie crew, Garry & Ruby

      @@PeterHolland-mu7yn 😂😂😂 Defo invest immediately in some nice tyres Pete. Hopefully my cheque from RE will be in the post soon ! The beauty of the Guerrilla is that you can feel as though you are riding enthusiastically ( lots of lean angle and decent corner speed ) without really doing anything dangerous. The speeds are lower, almost legal, but you still get the thrill of cranking the bike over and trying to carry more speed through every bend. It is very much, with the right tyres, a sort of Street Triple for folks who have reached the age where, for their own health, they've needed to slow down a bit. If you ride a Guerrilla at 8/10 you get a similar buzz to riding a Street Triple at 9/10 but for a lot less money and at a lower speed with a lot less risk. It's like riding like Rossi but without scaring yourself to death. And for the money ! It really is a no-brainer. I reached the point of wanting to slow down and enjoy my riding more about fifteen years ago. After a while, I have begun to miss riding a bit more enthusiastically. Hence the Guerrilla. I wasn't sure that I would enjoy riding enthusiastically again, but I do, because the speeds are lower and I am a lot less worried about crashing the bike because it was half the price to buy it in the first place. For folks like us, who have decided to slow down and take less risks, it is just a great bike. You get the buzz from back then but without the fear. Having seen the bikes you have had and how you used to ride, I really think that the Guerrilla would suit you to a tee. And for the relaxed rides, the two up rides, you should keep the Classic Pete. It's going to happen, isn't it ? 😛 Oh. Malcolm is still here by the way but the price is agreed. They will collect and pay whenever it's convenient for them. I really should do one last video with Malcolm, now that it's clear that he will be leaving the channel. I moved garages at the weekend and the bike garage now has space for at least two more bikes 😱 My car now has an inch either side and an inch at the rear. It's all about priorities, right ? 😂 The RE dealer also sells Kymco and they have a very nice 125 with a ton of storage. They wanted to take the Malaguti as a trade in or do me a better price on a Kymco as part of the deal. But since I'm not sure if I can cope with the three bikes plus scooter, I prefer to do without the scooter for a while. I can use Norman for the sort of errands that Malcolm used to do. But at some point I think I will get a 125 scoot because I love them and they are so practical. Just struggling to justify the expense at the moment. It doesn't currently solve a problem, as much as I would like one. Cheers Pete. Excited to see how all of this pans out ! Sarah is a good 'un ! It's happening , isn't it ? 😛 Love to you and the crew Garry & Ruby

    First, it was an overnight in town! To go to the dealership I got my bike is 25 miles away and a bridge tunnel I need to contend with. Would be less expensive to stay the night as I try to see if my buddy that lives over there will let me spend the night or the dealership allow me to take a bike home. Neither have worked out. Was thinking the big service I with valves, I should buy my Trail and ride it home. It will be about 60 miles as I can't ride the trail on the bridge tunnel. So I would have to take another bridge where the speed limit is 45. Any ways, I love the enthusiasm and giggles with the bike. Nothing better then a fun bike to ride. Well done, and it sounds like a new bike for summer too. As you have the room in the garage. 😊 just saying, don't let good square footage go to waste.😊

      Hi Blakester. Actually I now have room for at least TWO more bikes, which is worrying. At the weekend I swapped my garages about and now have much more space in the bike garage. The car garage has about an inch of space either side of the car and none at the back, but it's all about priorities right ? Also prefer any rats to have a go at the ONE car rather than the THREE bikes. I now have enough space for two more full sized bikes or possibly three if one of them was a scooter or something petite. We'll see how the finances go. I would like to add a used bike to the fleet, a bike that I can finally swap out every year, since with the new bikes, so far they have all ended up being keepers !!! But first I need to make sure that I am coping okay with three bikes. I think I will be but if I find that they are costing me too much time and stressing me out, then obviously I won't expand the fleet any further. But I think that I can probably manage four bikes 🤔😂 For the big services I actually enjoy my night out in the big city. I look forward to it. Where I live there is nothing. In Almería there is everything. Great food and drinks all over the old town, so I like to go to a bar or three in the evening whenever I'm there. It's something I don't get to do the rest of the year ! Cheers Blake. I hope your health is on the up and up. Just don't get carried away and do too much too soon ! Take it easy ! I will do the same with Norman and Attila when the time comes. And as you say, once I see my annual mileage on each bike, I can probably extend the servicing to once every two years 👍 I will record the mileage I do with each bike this year but I am pretty sure that with three bikes to share the miles, Buddy will only need an oil change and maybe valve check every couple of years. I only ride for leisure, so it's not like I am going to be doing big miles on any bike ! Cheers Blake. A fourth bike it must be then ! changing those tyres was the best idea, I would not trust those CEAT tyres

    • @economicalrides
      @economicalrides 6 дней назад

      Hi Oscar, I would say that for me it was a very good idea because I bought the Guerrilla purely because it was going to be sportier than my other two bikes. Its sole purpose is to be fun to ride enthusiastically in the bends. So I didn't want to be hamstrung by less than ideal tyres. I think the OEM CEAT tyres will be fine for 90% of the time, but the RoadTecs egg you on, give you the sense that you have a lot of tyre and a ton of grip left. So with the RoadTecs I am able to exploit the capabilities of the chassis without having to try too hard or be too brave. I am able to explore the capabilities of the bike sooner. It would have taken much longer to get to this point with the OEM tyres, I'm sure. I definitely think that the RoadTecs have taken this bike to another level. So much so that when they are worn out, I will look into getting some even stickier Metzelers, so the proper sports tyres rather than these sports/touring tyres. The Guerrilla is going to be my sports bike, so it is definitely worthy of some decent rubber ! I should probably eBay the CEATs now because I really can't see myself ever fitting them. I'm spoiled now, that's for sure ! Cheers Oscar, all the best ! Garry

With similar tyres on Buddy I think that I would probably be getting his pegs down without even trying ! Too cold for riding at the moment, so haven't been out since filming this one. Hi ! Oh, so you go to that meet at the pub that Martin has been to on his channel a couple of times ? Which bike do you take to the meet at the moment ? With regard to the Guerrilla, I genuinely didn't like the TFT on the Himalayan 450 and other Guerrilla colours. When I rode the Himalayan it was summer and I didn't find the display easy to read in light or dark mode in certain lighting conditions. Instead of idiot lights ( LEDs ) you just get little icons popping up on the screen. I found the little green triangles telling you that you had the indicators on, particularly hard to spot. And then of course there is the flickering issue in the camera footage if you try to vlog your rides. I always maintained that it's a shame that you can't choose the analogue or digital dash, according to your preference, for all colours. Fortunately the silver bike looks great, so I was lucky. If the base model had been red or brown or something, I would have had a problem and possibly not bought a Guerrilla at all. Much like you now have the problem of liking the silver but preferring the digital dash. All I can say is that you are not missing out on much, other than the rev counter and possibly a temperature display, by going with the analogue dash. But on the plus side, the analogue dash gives you traditional idiot lights for all of the usual stuff, which are much easier to spot ! Good luck deciding. I have a Guerrilla ride coming to the channel next Tuesday. I am loving the Guerrilla so far. It is great fun for a sporty ride, handles beautifully and has almost double the power of the other two ! Cheers derbyshire and thanks for introducing yourself ! Garry

      Indeed, the screen feedback is not as sensitive as Chigee, but after all, the price is only 1/3 of Chigee😂

      Hi William. The reflections are only in the GoPro footage because the camera is set at a certain angle. From where I was sat, the screen was always clear because I've set it at the right angle for my rider's eye view. I will be interested to see if it is bright enough when the sun is behind me on a summer's afternoon though. It could become hard to read then but we will find out in due course ! Cheers William, thanks for taking the time to watch, even though you probably wouldn't be interested in buying one 🙂 At least I included Ruby this time to make it more worthwhile 😛❤️🐕 Garry & Ruby

      Exactly. Not all of us are BMW owners and not all of us are prepared to lay out the cash for a "toy" which is required to buy a Chigee. Those of us who are a bit more budget conscious can now have similar functionality on our bikes for a fraction of the price, thanks to Aoocci. They really have made an excellent product, have continually improved it where it has been criticised in the past and in the current version it is just about perfect. It represents a heck of a lot of functionality for your money. The screen reflections were not visible to me. I have set the screen at an angle to reduce reflections from my perspective. Since the GoPro is set in a completely different position at a different angle, reflections are visible. For me the screen had always been clearly visible and reflections haven't been an issue. I question whether the screen will be bright enough on a Spanish summer afternoon but time will tell ! If you take the special allen key with you on the bike, you can always adjust the angle of the unit in about two minutes, should it ever be necessary. It's really not a problem. I'm blown away by how well rounded this product is for the price. I have zero complaints ! Cheers, Garry

      @WilliamAndrewPhilipBodie No William. That was in the reply to the guy who mentioned Chigee, who make something similar which is very expensive and very popular with BMW owners. The Aoocci is a great option for everybody else, the poor, like us 🙂 I lived in Germany for 13 years myself and the whole time I was there I was always poor. So I know exactly how things are over there for many people, don't worry William.

    I find mine works Ok plugged in to my Mac Studio, so planning to plug it in to the USB and have just about worked out all the bits now. I'm the ideal test guinea pig as if I can do it, ANY eejiit can... Weather's been too cold and inclement for fiddling with bikes here, so instead I have spent a glorious day on Bodmin Moor enjoying the snow at a Neolithic Stone Circle with various cameras, but that's for the other channel😉

    • @economicalrides
      @economicalrides 10 дней назад

      Sounds like a great way to spend a day Andy. NOT ! 😛 I had the same problem getting these videos done. Since I have no indoor space to work on bikes, I needed two consecutive days of decent weather to get the stuff fitted and get all of the filming done. Out of frustration I filmed part one well n advance as I was waiting for the weather to improve. Still, we got it done in the end and the unit is staying on the bike, so we'll see how it holds up over time. I think that the unit should work fine with any USB port now. I imagine that is why they've started including the USB cable as an alternative power supply option. Previously they didn't because they knew that the unit had issues with certain USB ports. I have one USB power bank which causes the unit to continuously reboot. Clearly it can't sustain the current ( I'm guessing ) that this unit draws over USB. My other two USB power banks have no issue running the unit. I think amps are going to be the issue. As far as I am aware, all USB ports deliver 5V. But the amp draw that they can tolerate varies. Any port designed to fit on a motorcycle should be pretty generous in regard to max amps permitted I would imagine. I think you should be alright running it over USB 👍 Cheers Andy, and Chillers Garry & Ruby

      Ruby is now very excited for me to receive a demo unit of Aoocci's new on-bike "sossidge" dispenser. I have spoken to Aoocci R&D about it and they seem to think that there isn't going to be much of a market for it. I shall have to break the news to Ruby very gently. She was hoping that when I get back from my rides, I can let her out, press a button on the handlebar and a "sossidge" falls out of the end of the handlebar, right into her gaping mouth 🤷‍♂️ Norman doesn't mind lugging the new tablet about as long as it doesn't start draining his battery. He says that is where he draws the line 😛 Cheers Paul.

      Hi Dave, use the discount code EcoRides at checkout or simply use the affiliate link provided in the video description to get a 22% discount and a free SD card with your order 😇 One of these would work well on the NC or the Beemer I reckon. But since those are the two bikes you probably ride least, it might be a bit OTT. It would make more sense on the Meaty really ( giving you the security of having a dash cam in the Exmouth traffic cut and thrust ) but might spoil the looks of the bike. But at the price, you can't really go wrong and if you have a USB port, the whole lot can be moved from bike to bike without too much difficulty. I am genuinely impressed by the quality of the unit and how it does everything so well for the price. Looking forward to seeing how the screen copes with the Spanish summer sun and also how all of the bits and bobs hold up to the beatings they will get out on the trails. If you've got a space for it, one of these probably would add something to the Beemer or NC. Cheers Dave, love to the Exmouth crew, Garry & Ruby

Of course John, if you do decide that such a thing would be of use to you, please remember to use my discount code EcoRides to save yourself 22% whilst also earning me a small commission, which Ruby will probably blow on more "sossidges" 😛 Love to you both, Garry & Ruby

      Hi FG, for me it just comes down to whether or not you think it would suit your bike. As far as the unit itself goes, I am a fan, I think that it's great. At the same time though, I have to admit that the Himalayan is the only bike I'd feel happy fitting it to. For me, that screen and all of those wires just wouldn't look right on the Meteor or the Guerrilla. But if somebody only has the one bike and needs something like this, then I can wholeheartedly recommend it. In my case I was even able to run it off the USB port, making the installation a piece of cake. Check out Tuesday's video which goes into a bit more depth and hopefully that will help you to decide. In terms of price, quality and functionality I'd say that this unit is going to be hard to beat. Longevity looks like it should be okay too but of course, only time will tell. Cheers FG G

    • @economicalrides
      @economicalrides 12 дней назад

      Hi again Blake. If you have a USB port on the Concours, I can confirm that with the new USB connector lead that they have just introduced, the unit does work off USB power. Well at least for me. And since my USB port has an on/off switch, I can use that to power the unit on or off, so it isn't on ALL OF THE TIME when I am out riding. So I'm really happy with that solution. I think it is a great unit and fantastic for the price you pay. It would probably be a nice addition to the Concours, as long as you have a space on the bars for it 👍 Watch part two to see just how many wires you have to hide. You end up with a fair amount of wire dangling about and it is quite difficult to end up with tidy cable management. I spent four hours and many attempts at managing the cables before finally deciding that it was "good enough for now". As you will see in part two on Thursday, I am impressed with this unit and would 100% recommend it to anybody who is looking for this sort of thing. I think in terms of price/quality/performance it is pretty hard to beat. Cheers Blake. Hope the pup didn't drive you too nuts at the weekend ! Garry & Ruby
