Chipmunk On A Stump
Просмотров 57Месяц назад
September 2024 we were camped at Webber Lake, CA and surrounded by wonderful wildlife. This little chipmunk was a bit of a beggar but we did our best to ignore him until he did this little show and I setup my camera to film him. Listen carefully and you'll hear a squirrel dropping pine cones onto the ground from a tree and also geese foraging for food in the lake.

On February 23, 2024 I droned this westbound freight at Siberia, CA, making its climb up Ash Hill. This is the longest train I have ever seen and I want to guess it was close to 4 miles long. If someone wants to count the cars please be my guest and let me know what you think? I added sound from my ZOOM Hn1 field recorder. Please enjoy and click like!

A Day on The Southern Pacific's Suisun Bridge - March 14, 1994 4K
Просмотров 14 тыс.10 месяцев назад
On March 14, 1994 I was "camped" at the west end of the Southern Pacific's Railroad Bridge and had a goal of taking photographs and videoing trains. As I was watching a ship go underneath the bridge, the day operator was showing up for his turn to work and saw me, and after a small discussion he invited me to join him and watch the operations of this great draw bridge.

Journey to The Black Rock Desert and The Union Pacific's Winnemucca Sub
Просмотров 41410 месяцев назад
On June 14-16, 1993 I took a trip from California to The Black Rock Desert in Nevada. I made a quick stop at Lawton, NV to catch an eastbound Souther Pacific freight before heading to Gerlach, NV then on Trego and Ronda sidings along the Union Pacific's (EX Western Pacific's) Winnemucca Sub. I caught a number of trains including one eastbound Souther Pacific freight that had come off of the Mod...

My neighbor hired a local tree felling company to cut down a Doug Fir that was at least 110 feet tall. The video shows the process that the main faller used to cut sections of the tree and were then roped down.

Nice video! What drone do you have? Looks like it did a good job tracking you.
I have a Mavic 2 Pro, and yes, it does a fairly good job of tracking. Thank you.
Nice video Doug. Looked like quite a crowd. Those pigeons sure like soaring around over town, don't they? Fortunately, they don't seem to mind drones. What drone were you using?
I was worried about the pigeons actually but they seemed to know to avoid the drone and they do add something to the video. A Mavic 2 Pro.
@@b.douglasjensen I figured you had a Mavic, after looking at your other videos. Mine is a Mini 4 Pro. You are a very good drone pilot. I still need lots of practice. And yes, those pigeons do add a little spice to the video.
@@gama45 Thank you Gary! Mighty fine praise from someone who knows his way around drones. I'd love to be alble to upgrade to the 3 Pro but $$$. I've had the 2 for 3 years now and can't say enough good things about it and DJI when I needed some service to it.
9:55 holy cow does that ship have some dark history with the government. Sick catch
You think of the nineties as recent. Then you remember that you're old.
2:39 back before smartphones when you couldn’t just look up a ship’s number.
One remarkable video….wow!
thank you
My ex sister in law worked the tower as a combination yard master and bridge operator she retired over 10 years ago
The bridge was built in 1930 to replace the ferry boats that hauled passenger trains between Benicia and Port Costa.
You mean an "E" ticket. Years ago Disneyland had a low entrance fee, but each ride needed a ticket. You bought books of tickets. The best rides needed an "E" ticket.
That was the best 1’34” use of my time ever! 🤣🤣🤣
I love that the Bridge Operator is at work dressed like he’s ready for a day at the beach 😂
My dad used to go to work at BN with ACDC concert shirts on....I used to wear shirts like the bridge tender when I was a conductor at CC/IC, then CN started the dress code stuff.
16:17 that's the Hughes Glomar Explorer, the CIA ship that was used to pick up the K-129 Soviet submarine from impossible depths.
Impressive train ! Great drone shots, excellent video I appreciate your efforts ! Greetings from Orange County ,Ca; - Larry
Great time capsule
What a cool video, great job and thanks for sharing!
Great video, I couldn't get my wife to drive in 100 degree heat to Reno to see a train. She doesn't understand how much Union Pacific paid to get the 4014 running again and all the hard working UP crews. Sell video to UP for their advertising.
4014 was at the LA county fairgrounds for years. I climbed all over it as a kid . Feel close to this machine
Excellent work, the PIP and sound from the ground level segments are AWESOME! thanks for sharing.
Douglas! This is excellent stuff I was looking forward to your post with great anticipation!
I particularly like the final scene where you get close to the drivers of the 4014. Great use of picture within a picture. Magnificent chase!
Excellent <<Air to Surface>> videography,thanks a lot!!! 🚂
Wow, just wow! This is superb videography and editing. The drone shots are fantastic! It really is close to railfanning, which in reality is not all TQBRS (thanks to Steve for that acronym!) so the expansive overhead shots mixed with trackside shots is just fabulous. Thanks for the time you put into this so we can enjoy 4014 and the wonderful Nevada landscapes.
Thank you Dave!
Awesome Doug I'm glad you posted what you got!
Thanks Dan
Will we see one from the Ireland trip?❤
I didn’t take any video in Ireland. Conscious decision
Out here on the East Coast, all the cars are covered in graffiti. Amazing to see so many cars as clean as they came from the manufacturer.
Very nice. You were able to catch the full length of the train on the curve. Thanks.
Great spot!
She’s a bigg’un!!!
Nicely done!
Splendid!
SP207 got a full overhaul in 2012. Its now powered by the 12 cylinder diesel that came in the, at the time, modern Gevo locos.
I'll be there soon, also with drones. Nice to see what to expect. 👍🏻
Enjoy!
Fascinating!
Fantastic video. I’ve gone past on the auto bridge hundreds of times over the past 60 years and twice over the rail bridge. This was a real treat to see the bridge’s operation!
I lived in Calpine for 20 years. When there was a lookout (an older woman) she would call in a “smoke” every morning when they started the old diesel water truck at Holstrom’s mill. I worked for the USFS then. Eventually, the pollution from the Central Valley made it hard to see anything from the lookouts. We went to helitack patrols after thunderstorms or when smokes were sighted. Thanks for this crystal clear drone video. I’m assuming that you are playing the piano. Also very nice.
That's hilarious about the lady at the lookout.... I can hear the US Forest people now! Not again!. I did some time as a USFS Surveyor's Aid back in the 70's and worked Truckee, Forest Hill, Nevada City, and Bullard's Bar areas - OK job but glad I didn't pursue it. I did try to get the LO position at Sierra Buttes but they passed me up for a couple who ended up quitting half way through the season. Thanks for your response. And wish I could say I wrote that song and played it but no...
That guy has probably got the coolest office on the whole SP at this time
FYI, UP's Big Boy 4014 is making its way to Roseville CA this summer. Westbound via Feather River departs Cheyenne June 30. Eastbound return end of July via Donner Pass. Will be there to see it!!!
Good one, . . . .
That’s a nice trip back in time, I used to do the I-680 commute across the bridge during the 90’s before most of the ships were scrapped. It was a nice view while stuck in traffic waiting to get through the tool booth.
Yes I miss the SP to they sold out to my least favorite railroad.😢
What an experience! Great video.
Thanks!
Today u have the Starlight,Zephyr and over a dozen Capitol Corridor trains in each direction crossing and a handfull of UP Freights, even Stack trains heading east/_west
Cool but death defying actually walking out on the bridge like that!
Loved it!! Long live the ESPEE snowfighters and 2nd generation Tunnel motors
Very very cool. Thanks to All of us that will never see this kind of ops in person!!
Wow!
Back when I680/780 was just the one bridge. I don't miss the weekend traffic out of the bay on that. Also back when the Mothball fleet still existed (although maybe there are still 2 left? pretty sure last I looked it was all gone and a relic of my childhood.)
So glad you captured that, definitely rare footage. Dolph Pierce used to run the bridge in the mid-80s, no idea either who the guy is in your video. I took 14 to work one morning from MTZ to Emeryville and it just happened to be the day when six tugs grabbed onto the Glomar Explorer to begin its slow journey to Texas, first top was Hunters Point in SF iirc. Bill Cotton was the conductor that day, was so neat to see a big boat leave and not immediately be cut up for scrap.
Thanks very much. I never met Bill Cotton but I understand he was quite the guy.
Simply awesome! 👍🏼👍🏼😊
Poor quality video
I guess you didn't read the f'ing notes
