Well, it has been a while, There have been a couple other movies I was going to put on this channel, but they just seemed off. This one too, but after talking to my Sister I thought what the hey, I will publish it anyway, despite being a bit scatter-brained.

C.O.T.I. (Chuckling On The Inside) all the way through. Now I want to watch this movie. Sounds like it may be close to real life!

Well, not my best review (but I did find some time to do a video at least). One thing not addressed is the evil in the witches and the royalty. The dying king takes pleasure in seeing his children kill one another (having killed his own 11 brothers), brothers killing one another is actually some of the most humorous part of the film. The witches enslave others, resulting in a mother who is not allowed to raise her own child, and there appears to be no reason other than close proximity to her enslavement. The witches also sacrifice animals as a form of dark magic. The cost they pay is taken from others. Tristan uses Yvaine due to his hasty promises. Lots to talk about.

Your analysis is really insightful. I'm amazed that your channel includes many titles that I have planned for my channel - Movies that I was sure everyone had forgotten like "The Gods Must Be Crazy," "The Third Man," "This Beautiful Fantastic," and "War Games." I'm glad I'm not the only one who enjoys them. But some movies I wasn't sure how to approach at all, like McLintock. This has long been a favorite western but I've not been sure how to recommend it to others. You've done an excellent job offering an analytical perspective to the story that is very approachable and understandable. Great job on both parts 1 & 2.

Good Grief...a stranded child, who quickly learns that his Mother's last words to him help him to gain sympathy from caring people. Being very intelligent, he does realize, with some amusement, that his world of pretense is extremely interesting. It affords him an opportunity to get the better of those who take advantage of the disadvantaged. I loved it. In that period of time, people did what was necessary to survive and protect themselves, and those they loved.❤

An interesting analysis, thank you. My response to the descriptions of "creative licence" you highlighted as taken by the writers/makers of the film ? I'd probably start by considering the lasting thoughts I have from having seen this film twice now, which was/is a profound respect and admiration for the three main characters.... And the collective achievements of NASA as a whole as they were breaking new ground 'reaching for the stars' in almost everything they were doing.... Does the truth, as you describe, diminish their achievements in any way ? I doubt it. But it is indeed a shame that the NASA of the time - and indeed some of the other people that would have worked with them were painted in a negative light. BTW, as an amusing aside: In the past week I stumbled upon an interesting analysis of a $160 Apple USB-C cable that had embedded within it more processing power than they used to put men on the moon (and bring them home) ! Mankind's progress in some ways is truly astounding (It's just a shame that we so often get let down in the simpler things by many who seem to take, take, take without contributing...)

George Orwell is the one who said, "The most effective way to destroy people is to deny and obliterate their own understanding of their history."

The irony for the playwright GB Shaw is that no actress has ever succeeded in doing it. Audrey Hepburn convinces me as the upper class deb, but not exactly as aristocracy. And she definitely doesn't convince me as the flower girl from Covent Garden. And I've never known any other actress convincingly transition from "squashed cabbage leaf" to Princess Diana. Sometimes an actress convinces as one or the other, but never both. People used to call it breeding. Well I'm not saying it's that, but it's something.

There is another parallel theme to "pride/infidelity" and it (in my opinion) is far closer to truth and that has to do with a married couple and intimacy/trust. Steven (the husband) as Mary's mother explains is getting old and wants to experience vitality, thrill, excitement of youth through a young girl's eyes. He is betraying trust/intimacy by investing in a fling. Mary is like a fish in a peaceful lake encountering a worm...bites...and gets caught. Mary invests in her friends and their boredom in everyday life (you have the archetypes of women: the naive imp, single career woman/lesbian, the gossip, etc.) Silvia finds the worm and finds ways to dangle it in front of Mary just as Silvia found the worm in the naive newlywed and dangles that in front of her). The mother isn't just saying to ignore it. The mother is saying a relationship is a foundational covenant blessed by God whose love conceived a child and together you created a family. Put your faith and energy in your marriage and family not your girlfriends. Steven tiring of his fling will realize his marriage and family are much more valuable than a fling with a trollop. A happy home will beckon him to return to that which is true and lasting. However, if the home is hostile then Steven's is going to find he has no peace with his fling and he has no peace to return to his family...it's a lose lose and will either divorce and stay single or divorce and remarry. Remember this was in an age where women didn't work en mass so female relationships were paramount. They were your social outlet to the real world..much like going to work is a man's outlet to the real world. Working men and women learn the politics of chaos and emotional manipulation to play power and strategy up the corporate ladder. In the case of the women, there is also a pecking order...the strategist and manipulator (silvia) is the power player. Silvia is redirecting the woman away from their own self-interest (family) toward pride and willfulness which puts the women in her orbit of control and manipulation as the power player. The mothers advise was prescient. If you want to preserve your marriage, then you have to put your energy and focus into your marriage family and children not friends and acquaintances.

Reno was at the time where society people went to get a quick and legal divorce. (It was not as easy in many states) Nevada rolled back residency requirement to six weeks and legalized gambling and Reno ended up with quite a few resort divorce “ranch”(es) like the one in the movie. Mary Pickford, Rita Hayworth and Gloria Vanderbilt were a few of the celebs to get a Reno divorce.

Based on the 1913 play, and seeing the narrative played out in an 1890 oil painting, Pygmalion painting by Gerome, with Rex Harrison as the stand-in for the sculptor in the picture.. Refining the block of marble til she smoothly comes to life. Seeing Eliza Doolittle's metamorphosis from being a ragamuffin, to refined, to a good human who is unafraid to be assertive is inspiring but also says a lot about our culture and acceptance. Henry Higgins wants Doolittle to be a pendulum on a clock being pushed from one extreme to the other, but in life we gravitate towards what is true and neutral to some extent. She obtained her dream of being a lady in a flower shop instead of selling them at Covent Gardens. This is a great musical and film, and since I performed in the play at school when I was 12 y/o I've always felt it is a part of me.

I despise the end of the movie “My Fair Lady,” which implies that a woman can be cowed by a man and stay with a man who is expected to give nothing in return. I think you missed the mark when it comes to their relationship. It isn’t (surrogate) father-daughter or strictly teacher-student. Otherwise, I enjoyed your insights.

Say you neglected to mention the advice that Paulette Goddard's character gives to Norma Shearer's "Mary". If you recall, Paulette chastises Norma, comparing the husband's infatuation with his mistress as being sick and would she leave him if he were sick...of course not. Further, Paulette says or implies this is a sexual situation and Norma should win back her husband basically between the sheets! Norma's character is a bit repelled by the coarse direction the conversation has gone but Paulette pushes it further and tells Norma that she'll win her husband back "in his arms" which is nice lady talk for in bed. Paulette DOES say though too, that sure, you're gonna make your hubby pay, but, don't throw the baby out with the bathwater either. So does the mother advise her daughter that the husband's fling isn't about not loving his wife, but rather that he's getting older and that's a difficult thing to face so his fling with another woman makes him feel virile again and young. It's Norma's character who falls victim to the black & white morality of the situation. She's the one who can't forgive, at least at first. What I like about this movie is that it allows room for people to be imperfect. So it says, sure get mad, give em hell, but don't walk away on a moral high ground because in the end you'll see that no one is perfect including themselves. Such a refreshing change of pace from today's woke nazi sensibility: The "Believe this or be crushed" approach

This is a film about transformation. Higgins thinks her can change Eliza, but it is she who changes him, in deeply profound ways. The man who was self-sufficient is no longer: I've grown accustomed to her face. This is a love story, albeit not necessarily a romantic one. But it might be, but that is for another day,. The story ends with an open question, deepening the mystery of love itself. This play is a masterpiece,

...wowwwwwww, what do I think, about "My Fair Lady"???... ...I agree with your insights about the story and the script, but there's so much more to imply... ...Henry Higgins a mean character???... ...not only that, but a narcissist personality owning a humor that resembles so much the humor of the guys in this film "The Boy in the Band" (USA'1970), or, at last, Dorothy Zbornak's... ...(And I don't want to mention the Hero's journey wich at least three characters in the script, follow)... ...you see, my dear friend, too much to take in account... ...but I like this film... ...personally speaking, I'm a lot of things; I even sing... ... last weeks I've been singing my favorite song in this film: "On the street where you live"... ...and "Loverly" and "I could have dance..."... ...these two, I'd like to transform in rock tunes... ...if not, at least pop!!! ...my very warm greetings from Santiago de Chile, Downtown, my dear friend youtuber, you did a very good job, indeed... 👏👏👏😊🌹🥀🌹😊👏👏👏 PS: your voice is really nice and your speech is almost a very interesting lecture that I like really much...

Thank you for this encompassing description of one of my favorite movies. Don't watch it for the moral or the plot - -watch it for the in interaction among all these fantastic stars !

I think it's significant to make note of the fact that this film was made during the run up to the 1964 Presidential election between Barry Goldwater (the Arizona Republican Senator whom John Wayne supported and the character Birnbaum is probably based on) and the Democratic incumbent JFK who was assassinated the same month this film came out. The Jerry Van Dyke character seems to reflect a lot of what Wayne didn't like about JFK while Patrick Wayne's character seems to reflect what Wayne liked about JFK. Wayne would never make a film directly critical of any American President of course.

My old lady has documented my death on Face Book hundreds of times. Its when I get up and go back to work is when everyone laughs at her..

I feel sorry for people who critisize everything in a movie. I really enjoy watching movies, and this one is one of my favourites. It is just a story. Don't be so pedantic.
