Let's Talk About Xbox | Delco Nerd Network Podcast Episode 102
Good conversation. Sad to see this comment section empty I grew up a survival horror junkie. Resident Evil was my first favorite gaming franchise. But silent Hill was always the counter point to it. I'm not even the hugest fan of the entirety of the franchise. I pretty much just like the second and third game. I have a soft spot for the fifth one as well but many people regard it the worst of the series so I just don't talk about it lol Silent Hill 3 was my favorite but two sits right below it and I understand why most people consider it the best one in the franchise. In fact many people consider it not just one of the best horror games ever made but just downright one of the best games ever made. And part of it is this uncanny sense of depression and loneliness along with the rest of the creepy atmosphere and just the story itself I'm always interested to see the opinions of people who never played the originals. Because I think oftentimes people play them and enjoy them and despite in some cases it may possibly be enabling the lack of creative ideas in the industry, I do think remakes absolutely have their place in gaming. Especially something like this where the original game doesn't have any kind of easy way to access it outside of overpaying for an original copy or basically downloading abandoned wear on a computer. If somebody plays something this way for the first time and they enjoy it, who is anybody else to say that it shouldn't exist? What I'll say as a fan of the original, I wouldn't call this the definitive way to play Silent Hill too. But I would say comparing and contrasting the two, you can't go wrong with either one to experience for either the first time or one of many repeat playthroughs. I enjoy playing this version more than the original but it's just because of how spoiled I am at this point by modern gameplay standards. Despite my love for many of those classics survival horror games I'm actually not super attached to fixed camera angles. I don't think they're bad either. Often times if a game is developed well it's the same kind of concept as the way a director chooses framing for a film. It can be incredibly effective for building that kind of atmosphere in a horror game. However I've never been of the mindset that some people say were fixed cameras make things scarier. I think of anything first person is probably the scariest because you're constantly wondering what the hell's behind you and you can't just kind of cheat by panning the camera around you have to actually turn and face a potential threat. But this over the shoulder third person camera perspective is the standard for a reason. It works. I find it ultimately more immersive to play this way. The original feels like you are watching James go through his journey. The remake feels like you are him going through his journey. Both are valid But the art design and atmosphere in this remake is unmatched. It has far more of a sense of oppressive dread than the original does. And the sound design is spectacular. If you haven't, play it with a pair of 3D headphones in the dark. I cannot overstate how much of a difference that makes I like a bit of the odd and uncanny voice acting from the original better than this one. Everybody's doing a great job but it's just a slightly different tone and way to get everything across. There's less of that hazy dream-like feeling to everybody and it's a lot more grounded instead. And then I just kind of prefer pacing and enemy layout from the original. I think the remake drags on a little longer than it needs to. They expanded every single area in the game to include more content, but I think they either could have cut out a few places, or just added less to each area and it would feel a little bit tighter. With a horror game you can kind of only sustain yourself for so much constant tension at a time, or the game will end up using up all of its tricks and not feel scary anymore in the latter parts. Which I feel like this one unfortunately suffers from because not only is it long, but there's way more combat in this one than there was in the original. You get too used to fighting these enemies and each time you enter a new area you can be confident that there's going to be a lot of them. So instead of wondering if I'm going to encounter an enemy and being afraid to do so, I just know it's going to happen so I've got my finger on the trigger ready to pop off a couple of shots and then swing my lead pipe like mad I think survival horror games work a little bit better if they are shorter and more concise but have things that heavily emphasis replaying the game. I think that's better for its longevity than just stretching the experience out to begin with But I think this game is phenomenal despite those complaints. If the original is an A+, this one is at least a B+ if not maybe an a-. I think it just unfortunately due to being a remake of such a prolific game can never actually achieve the same impact that the original did
Also as far as what pyramid head is supposed to represent. You're definitely still open to interpretation with a lot of these enemies, but the universally agreed on exclamation for pyramid head, especially since he was taken from the design of an executioner garb. Is that pyramid Head is the manifestation of James's desire to be punished for his sin. Pyramid Head kind of really only shows up to point you in the right direction, and then make James relive over and over again the death of his wife by killing Maria multiple times.
I looked it up and apparently you can get different endings with all four factions, so I'm guessing it is based on reputation.
Thanks for the information. Very cool detail I think most players, like Trio & I may not even consider at a glance.

Here's hoping for a similarly good discussion of your thoughts about The Penguin TV show soon!
I watched it recently and the only comparison I can make with it is The Matrix Resurrections. That ain't good.
Best horror game of the year, in my opinion. Most people who disagree, but I'm just glad we've had so many impressive games in this genre this year!
Sony-Verse, holy moly lol Unfornuatley we never got the terrifying and unbridled fury that Venom and Carnage bring. Leaving Spiderman at the brink of near destruction. We got a funny campy version with dark undertones balanced out heavily by the camp. Which is cool, I saw the first two in theatres. But this third one is going to be for sure, the same thing. So IDK, I've seen this one before.

I feel his unconscious hypocrisy is fundamental to his character. Even at his most sane, he dressed in the styles of high fashion, seemingly fitting in with Angelo Bronte, only to turn around and criticise the corrupt nature of the mafia boss.

On the PS5 pro price point, i wouldnt have an issue with it if it came with the pro controller as well. The extremely unnoticeable console upgrades that it promises doesnt justify a $250 price increase. And my final point is that the PS5 pro is finally the PS5 that was promised to consumers when the PS5 was first announced in 2020 (4k, 60fps, etc.) So its a huge middle finger to people who bought the original PS5.
Good point. This generation has really been a choice between frames or fidelity.
@DelcoNerdNetwork honestly I play on an older television i have so I've never even noticed a difference between fidelity and performance mode on any game other than Elden Ring. I guess never having to toggle the switch is 1 less inconvenience, but I don't think I've ever noticed it.
The biggest problem with Concord is that they were charging $40 for a game in a genre that is only popular because every game in that umbrella is free to play. Why would anybody pay money for an overwatch clone when Overwatch is free?
I don't recall if we spoke about the price of Concord but yeah charging 40 when a large majority of these games are F2P is silly and not competitive.
@DelcoNerdNetwork there wasn't a mention of it, I assumed since you guys said you never played it that you weren't aware. It's a total marketing blunder when you charge for a game that every other company would make free-to-play, especially when it's locked in on PS5, not multi-platform.

Dang, the video game industry business model is coming into a strange age. Expensive consoles for generic games. I saw a Dinocrisis remake on Unreal Engine 4 made by a fan. It was about as engaging as a AAA title can be. Eventually PC and independent creators can cut Sony out of the picture. Is there a way for fans, creators and investors to work together?
I don't think so. Some companies love when fans mod there games like Bethesda and CD Projeckt Red and will even hire those modders. Others like Nintendo want to squanch any and all admiration of their games that deems to be taking revenue away. I think investors would want to be the smaller entity and merge it with the larger one. Money is the priority.
@@DelcoNerdNetwork yes, as long as money is individuated/separated and AI doesn’t disrupt the business model of arts and entertainment as a whole, then things will simply remain unchanged.

Great review. I dug the Android character and the connection with autism. I took great depth from his relationship with others. Both human and nonhuman. Was it a spectacle? Sure. Was the action as intense as a film like ‘My Sweet Darling’? No. Was the Alien: Isolation set design reference cool? Yeah. 😎 🆒.

Damn. Its interesting how much more fleshed out a video game can be. Hard to translate to a cinematic experience. Legend of Zelda live action is hard to pull off. One of the best qualities of this game is how Link connects oneself with the world. this dynamic is hard to translate if there is a separation between the world and the audience. The magic may be lost and instead we have a standard hero saves princess from the evil king story.

Clever wordplay, guys! This casting smacks of laziness and nostalgia-chasing by the studio. I'm not interested in the actor, I'm interested in the character... which is something that the studio has not done consistently well in several years.
Very disappointed. Too many misunderstandings and now they setting up another misunderstanding between Alicent and Rhaenyra again with Aegon leaving Kings Landing. I hope this is the last time Rhaenyra and Alicent talk but I read the book and I know one more meeting. I personally never liked them aging Alicent down and making them friends because I knew some mess was going to follow. Great acting does nothing for me when the story is terrible. I’m contemplating not watching the remaining of the show. I knew they was going to run into a problem with Alicent’s character and I don’t see them coming back from this terrible season. We need Nettles, the only character that is actually black they cut 😂
Thanks for the comment. While I hear you on the misunderstandings I think that's what will fuel the war and the drama and that's pretty important. The conflict doesn't just get resolved, we know that. I didn't know Alicent was aged down from the book. Interesting. Do you think Nettles could still come into the show now even though Rhaena has encountered Sheepstealer? I hope you change your mind on finishing out the show!
@@DelcoNerdNetwork No, I don’t see Nettles being added later. Well my brother and I watch it together so I watch it with him when it comes back. Probably do it like I did this season watched each episode once which isn’t good because I a binger and don’t really mind watching something good over and over again for my entertainment. Shadow of the Erdtree was really difficult, got through it on NG+1 and started it at like 200 RL. I think if Trio does try it out at some point I definitely recommend the cheesiest build you can find. Stack vigor and endurance, heaviest armor, moonveil or rivers of blood depending on whether you want magic or bleed, max spirits, summon for every boss, find all the scadutree fragments and ashes and stuff, etc. Doesn't make it trivial but there's a lot you can do to make it easier to get through. It's so good and a lot of the weapons they added are just super fun, I can't recommend it enough. Respeccing is so worth trying out since you get so many larval tears in the base game and a lot more in the dlc, lots of really fun builds you can try out too. Typically I run strength and then faith after hitting soft caps for buffs but respeccing to a bleed build was a ton of fun. Also, fuck Radahn. And that boar rider guy. I don't usually like using cheesy stuff or summoning/spirit ashes but I got fed up and had to for these two bosses. I don't think there's anything wrong with cheesy builds or summoning stuff, I just like the challenge presented and being like "this is beatable" even if it takes like 100 attempts. These two bosses broke me though lmao.
These are some great notes that I am absolutely going to use! Thanks for the insight! - Trio
Thanks for your comment. Respeccing though possibly rewarding just seemed anxiety inducing in terms of getting new gear squared away, weapons upgraded, new trinkets, rings etc etc. I loved doing magic so it mind just running with it in this end game piece of content. I don't think it's the place to learn new builds even if it did make things a bit stale. Fuck Radahn and Gaius hahahha
@@DelcoNerdNetwork Definitely understand your point about it being anxiety inducing. Like you put all this time and effort into your current build and changing things can throw it off balance. I would still encourage you to give it a try, especially with how many fun weapons were added in the DLC and if not for that reason then for refining your current build, I'm sure somewhere along the leveling process there was a point or two spent in something that you may not be using or could be used somewhere else which can make a big difference depending on what it is. I usually start my playthroughs as wretch since it gives such a flat starting place for a build and allows me to respec without having to feel like I'm wasting points going from pure str to pure int or something. Honestly, as long as you hit the soft caps, or are close to them, for vig and end you can kinda do whatever you want. Like min 50 vig and 35 end and then just dump the rest into damage stats. That's just my take though and that's what's so cool about this game. It lets you build and play how you want (though for sure don't sleep on vig even if you're an azur comet blaster lmao). As long as you have enough HP to not get 1 hit by bosses you can kinda do whatever you want if you have a good idea of what you want your build to be doing including bows.

I don’t understand how ANYONE can like this show. Poor writing, bad acting, enough plot holes to fill a garbage dump. There’s a good reason why the size of the audience is the lowest ever for any series in the franchise. The ONLY reason why people are watching it is so people can watch how bad it is. There’s literally no show I’ve ever seen in my life that’s worse than this, boringly incoherent, abysmal pit of mediocrity, attempt of a show. I’d rather watch MASH and CGI lightsabers into the show and call it Star Wars, it would be better than this manure fest. And I’m not exaggerating
