    I did not know you had a boat. The memories are sweet though. Though I am on the team of people who say it's best to be friends with people who have a boat. My cousin works at a harbour and he alwayd said "everyone with a boat has a problem and the problem is their boat."

    Hey Greg. Just wanted to say I actually really appreciated you making this video. My wife and I recently had to sell our house in an unplanned, frankly panicked manner, and cleaning it out and getting it ready to sell was emotionally harrowing for me. I know how you must have felt, taking something you loved and that had meaning to you, and handing it back to the universe. Knowing it's the right call doesn't make it feel any less... well, everything. It was nice to see someone else who gets that. Good luck with the sale, brother.

  • @tyrant5616

    I used to work with a guy that was part of a solo sail boat club and he would always tell me that you never want to own a boat, owning a boat is miserable but paying a membership to a club that lets you use their boats is the single greatest thing he ever did. He goes online and books a boat, he shows up, he sails, he fills out a short report on the boats condition and then he has a beer with other sailors at the bar to talk about the miserable times they all bought boats, then he goes home.

    • @GregFromHTD
      @GregFromHTD Месяц назад

      There's really no such clubs in my area. The best you can manage here is maybe crewing on someones boat in races via a yacht club, and that is NOT affordable. Also, there's things I want to do with a boat that can't be done with a club-rental.

    I downgraded to a pedal drive kayak, best upgrade EVER. But...I fish, so...there's that. Boat: Hole in the water into which you throw money. The yak is going to curb that issue. Not going to eliminate it, stuff still happens. But not dealing with 1/10 the mess and I can still fish the ocean, NP.

    My parents had an 18’ sailboat when I was younger, just a “day” boat. We sailed on it a few times, but it was sold and we moved from the waterfront community before I could really appreciate it. I have a few memories of being out on it during the 4th of July and watching fireworks from the water, I wish I could remember more. A young me was scared hearing the cars as we sailed under a highway bridge, my dad reassuring that we were fine. I made up for the itch in recent years by owning a 17’ kayak (also a covid-era purchase), and now living a few miles from that same community. FWIW you introduced me to the Expedition Evans channel, who I wouldn’t have found otherwise. I definitely appreciate the emotions you’re feeling from a tough decision.

      No, I'm gonna disagree here. No one sells boats at anything *but* a loss, you very much know that going in. I enjoyed a lot about the boat, and then I stopped enjoying that, and I sold it. And at some point I will definitely be buying another boat. That's just boats man.

    As soon as I saw the name on her transom I knew that I had seen that boat before on Yachtworld! Glad you found a buyer, been there too many times, it is stressful when you want/need to sell and no one is knocking down the door. Sold our bowrider last summer, we had a lot of fun running up an down Barnegat Bay on her but it was time. It is bittersweet for sure. This is the first time in over 20 years that I will boatless for the foreseeable future. The upside, no worries about what will break this year and how much it will cost, the downside, I would rather be sailing than sitting on dry land........

    Hey Greg, something around 30 years ago, my parents bought a Bristol 31.1. They sold the boat in maybe around 5 years, for a larger Bristol. They had that Bristol for a good long while. But it became too big for them. My sister and I were both adults, off doing our own thing. So the large boat didn't make sense anymore. So they sold it and started looking for a smaller one. Something like that Bristol 31.1 they had. Well you know what? They bought their old 31.1 back from the guy they sold it to. They still have it now. So, I guess what I'm getting at is, you never know what will happen!
