SAILING nd HOUSE / Horizon Blues / Sailing and Lyrics
A strange thing is that people must be paying weekly storage on these hulks otherwise the yard would seize them and either sell them to defray outstanding fees or scrap them...
Small thing guys, at 19:39 you say that boat's been there for a long time because the cover's all messed up; that's not true. A lot of people kind of underestimate the Mistral that blows through frequently; 40kt+ winds, and if your cover game isn't really strong, you'll have a ripped and torn cover within the month. If not a few weeks - the wind really is that strong. Bimini's, solar panels, and other things go flying from time to time.
Saw my boat in the background - woo. Anyway. Been at Navy Service for ages with my boat, it's a good place to find a deal. But as you said in a comment, don't ask the office about it. Walk around, take a look, then ask the office to contact the owner if you're interested in buying. I do want to add this (also for the sailing pilots...); even if a boat has a ladder next to it, do *not* under any circumstance get on one without prior permission from the owner, or the office. Doing this will not put you in anyone's good book, and at worst may lead to confrontations you don't want to have. That being said, it's a lovely place :)
This will tempt us to fix one.
Lets start the adventure
what happend to all the owners of the boats,i wonder to now them still pay the boayard to have it there
Most boats are abandoned now. Owners never showed up again, not paid marina fees and so on. Lots of broken sailing dreams

Thanks a lot , we will do our very best also in the future LOL
It gets tiring walking around huge yards like those you could do with a couple of bicycles 😂.... There's a a small channel called the sailing Yourshire man he's been trying to find a free boat but he's in a nearby Calanque and all the boats are on the water .. So that means at least they are afloat. The racer you started with is a bonkers prospect given that monster keel ...you would barely get within a KM of shore in many places and you would be snagging nets lines and floating objects half of your days sailing. Great fun looking but you are now coming into the sailing and working weather... The only other option is take a trip out to Carricou and see all the salvaged hurricane boats that have had to be moved and probably got caught without insurance. Lots of monohulls got toppled on ground others got stacked up on the mangroves and or sunk ..including a beautiful Spirit Yatch.
Our boat will be much smaller than the racer and of course we are looking for one that is already floating. We have an old BMW 735i "The Transporter" to drive around but unfortunately we were not allowed to drive inside the boatyard with that great car. So we walked LOL
That car next to the bear boat would be easier to fix... cheaper too.
Right some 5200 and lots of epoxy and it will float LOL
They look a lot healthier than s lot of the boats in Carricou and Grenada. Even the ones that were out of the water got trashed or flipped in some cases. .. a wonderful Spirit yatch got holed and sank... fortunately the lady owner was able to get it pluged up pumped out and refloated . ..but a terrible mess. Many have no insurance others have just been forced to abandon large boats. Many bare rig cats had their masts snapped. 😮
A great tragedy for the sailing community in Grenada and Carriocu. The Video of Sailing Fair Isle shows it. Unbelievable. ruclips.net/video/GT-oFVtFNSo/видео.html But even here in France there has been a lot of boat wreckage in the past ,too when the Mistral Wind rages through the valley as a storm and has blown many yachts off the cradles in the boat yard. But here in France the boat is usually insured. Unfortunately, almost never in the hurricane part of the Caribbean.
The Kray twins
No, the A-Team LOL
IMPORTANT! Dear Friends, we got a lot of questions about buying an 1€ Boat. Listen: THE BOATYARDS DO NOT HAVE ANY 1 € BOATS FOR SALE!!! You cant just call there and ask for a 1€ boat to buy. This is not how it works. Evrywhere in the world you have to walk the boatyard, find a boat and go to the office and ask if the Boat is for sale. Than you can give an offer. The yard will than contact the owner of the boat and if you are lucky you will find a cheap Boat. A 1€ Boat is hard to find. If you are lucky you will get one, but it is always the decission of the owner of the boat, not the decission of a boatyard! SO DO NOT CALL THE BOATYARD FOR 1 € BOATS WITHOUT HAVING BEEN THERE BEFORE IN PERSON!
Is this where Seabird is too, right?
sorry we were wrong with the names of the boatyard, Seabird is not in the same yard we were looking for boats.
We bought one of those ‘rust in peace’ steel ones 😂😂 like that name! Renovating steel is proving to be a long difficult road, but we believe worth it in the end as no itchy fibreglass to deal with and much stronger & resilient 💪 time will tell I guess.
Looks like you spent most of your time looking at and photographing the worst boats in the yard. 🤣🤣🤣
It will become much better at the boat graveyard 🤣🤣🤣
Thanks so much for all your comments and subscribing to the channel. The adventure will go on. In the next episode I will show you our choosen "ladies" with some price tags on them ;) - in part 3 we will go to to boat dump yard and in part 4 to some marinas where we found really nice still floating "diamonds". So stay tuned, subscribe and comment to make your voice heard. Cheers from the Sailing Pilots.
16:00 One Euro? I call BS There is $10 K of winches and stuff right there. And 8:25 would be my choice, I"ll even pay 10 Euro
We call it winning in a lottery, and the chances to win in a boat yard are much better than in lottery.
Show me a dream and I'll show you a man crazy enough to own it.
we are crazy enough for that
at 10:00 those pipes are keel coolers. Run your engine coolant thru them and you don't need for it to suck in any seawater and have heat exchangers.
thanks
so stupid imo here s 1 knt less on the speedo
Wow, I wanted to see the dbl ender schooner sitting next to the salvage keel near the start of the yard tour :)
Great idea.😆
All some of those boats need is someone with enough years ahead of them, enough energy and enough money and they will be in for a great adventure filled with blood sweat and tears with a little joy in between.
energy, money and love of course
Look up a channel called sailing Seabird a young couple rebuilding and living in the port St Louis yard. They bought for ,€1 😊 I saw them in the credits.. Look up the story of Wildings Sailing.. now wilding. They have done it all before and succeeded. Also Alluring Arctic... Sailing Coneys ...
We met Marina and Stu from Sailing Seabird. Great people and working on their dream as we are doing. I also know Wildling and Alluring Arctic Sailing, too.
the pipe is engine cooling ,
Typical Dutch design or for fishing trawlers .. no blocked water pumps or overheated engine due to intake blockages. The wooden Cat was a Smaller Wharram type ... The real problem.is the GRP boats .. the hulls are damaging as they break down .
A gigger Wharram will be refittet here right now www.youtube.com/@WildlingSailing/videos
I'm a sniveling old cigar like you. I would fit in as the third among you. For years I have wanted to find a cruiser over forty feet at an affordable price. It wouldn't hurt to work on it either. I just hunt and hunt... every year I find one or two remarkable ships. My experience is that if you find a yacht worth almost zero and show interest in it, it is immediately valued at tens of thousands of € and thus no longer profitable. And meanwhile life goes on... So I don't think you will get anything good either.
We will get one we will love to refit and sail it around the world. There are lots aboandoned ships out there, worth to bring the to the sea again.
@@sailingpilots If you happen to find more, please think of me.
10:11 The ship has a single round cooling system. The cooling liquid of this internal circuit is circulated in a closed pipe system that also runs outside the hull. During this time, the seawater outside takes over the engine's heat. The same single-circuit system is usually found in lifeboats as well. Simple but great (just might be vulnerable).
I have one more idea: I have thought many times that the boatyard wants to earn the boat storage fee. The abandoned renovation is probably visible because the owner has changed his mind and is no longer willing to invest more in his boat. On the other hand, the boatyards want to sell these abandoned ships in such a way that the unpaid storage fee is returned to them as much as possible. I will continue...
Hmmm...
Why not, but never any steel boat
Are there any boat breakers there selling the parts? I know in the UK, at least one company in the Portsmouth area who are breaking the abandoned boats for spares. I need some newer Lewmar winches for my 1982 Koopmans :)
There are also a boat graveyards where you can get parts for cheap
What was the boat at 19:05 ?
We dont know yet. The office was closed as we were there at the weekend.
Refitting needs a lot of money and time even when you can do most of the work yourself. There is no market at all for these boats as the tot. Value after refitting will exceed manny times the economic value .
Boats are always money pits. We will do it not for saving it but for the love of having an old "pot" back floating - and bringing us old men to the sea, too.
Big job there
Indeed
Awesome video. Why are these boats not being sailed?
not advertised?
Abandoned, derelict boats are EVERYWHERE!!! Some are free, some are cheap, all depend on how much work YOU want to do. Just curious, why are you specifically looking for a steel boat?… Rust you can’t see is going to be a part of every single one you look at.
It will be no steel boat for sure, we just wanted to look at them and see its not worth to refit this old rusty ladies.
Many are abondoned. Maybe the owner died or just left it to rott or is not interessted in sailing anymore.
@@sailingpilots unfortunately a ton of boats suffer that same fate... Many are very worthy of being refitted and sailed again but will never get there. Many are really nice under all of that dirt and grime. My current boat is a "semi" abandoned boat well on its way to being a derelict boat, new running rigging and a couple of other things and it sails again. I wouldn't cross oceans in it, but as a live aboard, it's fantastic.
Their was an Alubat there worth a look at, I don’t think it would be a €1 boat if so let me know I will come and buy it, I think I saw a Najad too, I will have that for €1 also
saw x2 ohk?
you never know, always ask some are happy to get the boat away as fast as possible. We have had offers from boat owners to give us money for if we take over his old boat. If you have to pay about €4000 every year for having it on the hard, in 3 years you pay €12000 plus travel expenses etc. Disposing of a boat costs a lot of money, and some people are happy to pay you to "dispose" it, so to speak. So they got the boat, the problems and the worries away.
The pipe is a low tech heat exchanger.
right, thank you
Looks like DeNiro on the right at the start!
Not De Niro Blank And of course not Robert but Albert Blank, Albert Blank, like some English guy used to say in his movies
I was thinking the same thing
Blank, Captain Blank harrrrr
Shame there are no prices with them...
some have price tags. We will show in the next episode.
@@sailingpilots am looking for a fixer upper hence why i am so intrested. But i have NO IDEA how to even start looking for these. Which is a blame on me as i grew up at and on the sea.... :s

@@spoockeErazor THE BOATYARDS DO NOT HAVE ANY 1 € BOATS FOR SALE!!! You cant just call there and ask for a 1€ boat to buy.
The pipes running down the side of the hull, as a guess is a way of water cooling the motor. It will act like a radiator transferring the hot coolant of the engine to the water around the boat.
Or hydraulic bow thruster?
@jonscott8586 I didn't see any bow thruster. I've seen a few boats use this method for cooling though. It makes sense if not a bit precarious having that sort of system exposed
How can these guys not know that??
We are pilots not seafarer ... yet ;)
trouble with hydraulics is there is no such thing as "no leaks". Best have plenty of hydraulic fluid to top off the tank and plenty of oil dry pads to soak up that oil. Not to mention how many stains you are going to have on the teak decking when the furling motors leak or the vang. I imagine they use iso 32 oil or maybe 46 either way the rod end lip seal on any cylinder in salt water environment is going to pit. Heck even in ideal conditions capillary action causes leaks on the rod end. Hydraulic motors are seriously bad about leaks due to a rotating shaft around a lip seal. Yah I've worked in maintenance too long. Every hydraulic system leaks no way around it.
Yep, and thats why we do no want any hydraulics on the boat. Same problems you will find at some planes, too
