For the first time, Oxford chemists have generated fluorochemicals - critical for many industries - without the use of hazardous hydrogen fluoride gas. There has been a major omission to the history of the DP. No mention was made of Waynflete Professor of Chemistry, Professor Sir Jack Baldwin FRS (b. 1938 - d. 2020) for his definitive work on penicillin synthesis and biosynthesis from 1978 to 2005, as well as modernisation when he first arrived. He was a kind man, who was very thorough in his work.
