They were 1 of the best .I feel .shoot / just look how cool the spelling of there name .forwards.and backwards then back in the beginning they had there huge sign .mouth moved and eyes open .they were awesome
Saw these guys twice in 1976 opening for Rush...got to say they Blew Rush away!!! Fucking Great Band and they can still Fucking Rock. Too bad Barry and Mickey Jones aren't there!!! This shit kicks ass on the new so called rock.
Gregg Giuffria. Correct spelling of his last name. Looks like Frank DiMino still has his original trademark mic stand. So cool. Angel should have been huge. I think their whole shtick of wearing all white, in contrast to Casablanca label mates KISS, may have turned off some fans. (Frank Zappa was a fan, even. Sort of. He wrote a song called Punky's Whips.) They were all so pretty. And, in a way? Kinda foreshadowed the whole hair metal thing that came about in the 80s, back in the blow-dried 70s. I myself had most of Angel's 70s albums on vinyl. My favorite was the double live album, not just for this song, which, I believe was their only single to hit the charts, but because Gregg Giuffria played a badass keyboard solo, too. Ironically? Or maybe not so Ironically? Giuffria, the band Gregg formed after Angel split up, only had one hit as well, although, I believe that, since it was a power ballad, as sung by David Glenn Eisley, who sounded remarkably like Journey's Steve Perry? "Call To The Heart" was a much bigger hit for Giuffria than "The Tower" ever was for Angel. Sadly. They were just ridiculously, criminally underrated, and, it's unfortunate that KISS managed to pretty much bury Angel due to KISS's ever growing popularity, thanks to all the great hit songs KISS wrote or covered. Not that Angel didn't have other great songs, too (they did), but...none that stood out as monster smash hits that would have put them into the pantheon of great 70s rock bands. Oh. That's the other thing. Angel didn't really survive the transition to the 80s from their 70s heyday, such as it was. When the 80s rolled around, Angel quickly became dated and irrelevant. Also sadly. KISS transitioned into the 80s from their 70s heyday with much more graceful finesse. Angel...kinda didn't. (I always thought it was cool that Angel's logo of the word ANGEL, was designed so that it said ANGEL right side up or flipped upside down.)
Nobody comments, or even knows the name of the drummer. The rebar enforced cement backbone, and foundation of explosive mighty tasty ear candy! True travesty!
I saw them ( I have forgotten where L.A. area) while promoting their !st album, and I was impressed! A year later they did a FREE concert at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium. All five people I went with, including myself thought it was terrible and uneventful. I was a big fan prior to that event, and every album after the 1st. Just sayin'.
Hey I was desperately trying to remember where and when this was... I went to some release party around this time... it was a private deal and catered... my memory is wavering a little bit... signed album... Greg got my number... God I was young and 🔥
angel was the baddest dudes ever classy, girls would bring roses and give them to the band , punky would get the crowd to throw a joint on stage , he would fire it, pass to the crowd , then grab a heineken.
I have very fond memories of seeing Angel 2 times in the late 70's (White Hot era). I had the good fortune to have 5th row seats for their very visual stage setup. What sticks in my mind is that they seemed to be sincerely enjoying themselves while performing. I'm sure it is a grind to tour as a rock band; they are one of the few acts that struck me that way. Great video! Thanks for sharing!
I heard that gene simmons felt threatened because they were good looking guys LOL Casablanca wanted them to tour with kiss and simmons objected and he was king and follow the golden rule at Casablanca
I remember Playing on Greg Guiffria's Keyboards in a Hotel Room back in St. Louis, Mo. in 1976. I was invited in until Greg showed up, and asked who gave me Permission to Play on them. It was One of his Workers that let me in the room. After Freaking Out on me Greg told me to Leave the Room. i also got to play Pinball in the Game Room at the Same Hotel with the Rest of the Band. The Original Band Members! I went to their Concert that night, and had a Blast! Now My Hair Looks like what Greg's Hair use to look like! He shouldn't Have Cut it! L.o.l.
Gotta check out their first two albums - self-titled and "Helluva Band". Very progressive with Greg's synths and piano all over them but a huge, hard-rockin' sound. After that they got gradually more poppish.
They were promoted as the antithesis to kiss unfortunately I think Casablanca whether intentionally or accidentally kept their careers down because of Kiss
I met Greg Guiffria before he went on stage to play "The Tower" with the rest of the guys. He was Very friendly and a humble guy. I showed Greg a couple different Angel logo Necklaces I had made and he was amazed that fans still even cared. I saw him driving his Jag while I was driving back to my hotel and gave him the thumbs up again. Great evening.
Gary Thanks for sharing I love reading stories like this. I met Robert Plant in 83 at JFK airport. He was on the pay phone leaning up against a wall. I approached him, and he put the call on hold in the middle of his conversation just to shake my hand and talk for a moment. Got an autograph too. When I got on the plane there he was in first class. He saw me and said “We meet again” :) He is a perfect Gentleman. He was going to southern Nevada to make his video for “Big Log” from his second solo album that was released that year.
Now that's Rock and Roll
Punky looks like Cher with that plastic face lol. He's smiling even when he's not smiling. Too funny.

A very special performance. ❤❤❤🤟 GREG, WHY DID YOU CUT YOUR GLORIOUS MANE?
Why can\t people hold the camera horizontal.
I would have, Had I not been a novice at the time. Try to enjoy it all the same.
@@garysondrini4911 I love the video and glad you`re getting more experienced. Keep up the good work. Horizontillay
Punky looks atrocious. He may melt under the lights😂
Who else saw them live in 79?
Saw these guys twice in 1976 opening for Rush...got to say they Blew Rush away!!! Fucking Great Band and they can still Fucking Rock. Too bad Barry and Mickey Jones aren't there!!! This shit kicks ass on the new so called rock.
Drummer was not on point also I hate to say Frank has lost his voice after forty five years they where great 😢
I heard a song on Fallen Angle's albumn that Punky used to do back in the early 70s..my band covered it
I used to sit about 10 ft away from Punky watching for hours... 3 and 4 times a week...it's because of him I had a music career
I saw the Original Angel 1976 Santa Monica Civic with Ethos I was 16
Yes probably the most underrated band of all time I think they were just about ten years too early for their sound
Can we get back to large drum sets again please 🥺.
Wow. That drummer had a lot of Barry Brandt’s work down to a “T” - bravo, mofo!
Oh hell yes.
Robin, Tim and Twinbrook MD. brothers
Great to see Greg has surfaced and jammed with them...ANGEL
PUNKY .....🎸🔥👊
got to see these guys twice back in the day in 79 and 80 before they split! man what a show, still my favorite till this day!

This band is in really great shape after the years. They still got it and maybe even better than before.
Excellent song. Has a Sign of the Gypsy Queen kinda vibe to it in some places.
This video is a tragedy, only because the moron who took the video, held their damn phone vertical!!!!
let me intaduce to you..... Angel
AWESOME FILE! GOD Bless you!
I wonder what e er happened to Barry Brandt
AWESOME! These guys should have been mega stars!

Thanks so much for the vid, dude!! Love Angel!!! Awesome you met Greg!! See this was at Vamp's....did you meet the Count?
I didn’t see the count there that night. Doesn’t mean he wasn’t there.
This is awesome!!!!!! I never understood why they did not "hit it big"...Their Live album rivals the original KISS live album....

@@garysondrini4911 Your Welcome Brother!
Punky's Whips
Great band of the 70' s, I was there in 1976, Santa Monica civic, More gigs please...
Was that the free concert?
No it was not free. The band had a meet and greet before the show that you had to pay for too.
So if Greg could sit in for one show or one song, why couldn't he have done the new album with them too???
That's a great question
Because there's a massive difference in time commitment between sitting in for one song at a show and recording an album?
We thank you for the video! But seriously, dude - portrait format?!
Not that savvy with the I-Phone. Wish you were there to help me correct my lack of I-phone skills.
I had no idea Angel rocked as much as they did. They looked so opposite from KISS that I just assumed their music was opposing as well.
