How-to Video for Thermostat replacement Tools needed - 8mm socket with small ratchet MOTORCRAFT RT1227
It is October 23rd 2024 and thanks to this video I found the plug
THANKS FOR PONTING OUT THAT ELUSIVE RED PLUG. thumbs up!!! i WENT OUT AND BOUGHT 4 GALLONS OF 50/50 MIX BY PRESTONE PLATINUM SPECIFICALLY FORMULATED FOR FORD, LINCOLN, MERCURY, THE ORANGE STUFF. I AM FLABERGASTED, AND CONFUSED ON THE WHOLE PROCESS. THAT RED DRAIN PLUG DOESN'T DRAIN THE ENTIRE RADIATOR, AND OVERFLOW TANK. I WAS ONLY ABLE TO EXTRACT ABOUT 1 GALLON AND THE DRAINING STOPPED. i WAS TOLD THE ENTIRE SYSTEM IS ABOUT 15 QUARTS, WHICH IS FOUR GALLONS. I ADDED DISTILLED WATER TO THE MIN MARK, RAN THE TRUCK, REVED UP THE TRUCK TO 3500 RPM, LET IT COOL, THEN DRAINED IT AGAIN, I DID THIS FOUR TIMES, AND STILL ONLY GOT A MORE DILUTED MIX OF ANTIFREEZE OUT OF THE RED DRAIN PLUG. THIS IS A BIG WASTE OF TIME, AND FORD EXPECTS YOU TO KEEP DOING THIS ABOUT SEVEN TIMES, EACH TIME YOU KEEP DILUTING THE OLD ANTIFREEZE TO GET IT OUT. WHY NOT JUST DRAIN THE RADIATOR COMPLETELY??? i GOT SO SICK OF FILLING WITH WATER, RUNNING THE TRUCK, THEN EMPTYING IT. SO i STOPPED. THEN WHEN I WAS READY TO FILL WITH NEW COOLANT, IT ONLY TOOK ONE FULL BOTTLE OF ANTIFREEZE, JUST ONE FULL BOTTLE? YEAH, BECAUSE THE BLOCK IS FULL OR THE NEW WATER YOU PUT IN, AND IT'S STUCK IN THERE. PROBABLY SAME AS THE RADIATOR THAT YOU CANNOT FULLY EMPTY. SO I TOOK THE OTHER THREE GALLONS OF PRESTONE BACK TO WALMART FOR A REFUND, AND NOW I'M DRIVING WITH NOT A 50/50 MIX OF PRESTONE, BUT SOMETHING QUITE DILUTED FURTHER THAN THE PROPER MIX. IS THIS THE WAY ITS SUPPOSED TO BE? WHAT HAPPENS WHEN OUR MICHIGAN WEATHER FREEZES, WILL THE WATER THAT IS STUCK N THE SYSTEM FREEZE? I REMEMBER A TIME WHEN YOU EMPTIED THE RADIATOR, YOU COULD PRACTICALLY SEE TO THE BOTTOM. THERE'S NOT EVEN A CAP FOR THE RADIATOR. EVERYTHING BYPASSES TO THE OVERFLOW TANK. CAN SOMEONE ENLIGHTEN ME???
Why did people liked this video? It’s the worst video I’ve ever watched.
But now one question remains how much bottles of coolant do you need for it to refill
Great video
Anybody know the torque settings on the 8mm bolts?
Thank you.
Not to much ro show😮😮
Wish more videos were like this lol
Appreciate that, Michael Myers.
Where's all the foreplay? I'm not used to getting straight to the point lol
brotha I need to drain the antifreeze to change it ????
Less talk and right to the point! Thanks, like and subscribe from me.
So good he can do this with one hand behind his back…or holding a phone.
Thanks
On another channel they said changing the thermostat in computer regulated cars can improve gas mileage as the thermostat temperature can change with age and cause the computer to change fuel consumption based on engine temperature. What say you?
I can give you an answer to that question on Monday or Tuesday. My thermostat comes in on Monday.
Has anyone had success in doing this replacement to stop the engine coolant fan from running high speed constantly in hotter weather? Mine has done that the last 2 summers and Ford has told me they can't figure out why. I got wind from another youtube video that it may be the lack of a Motorcraft thermostat (or one that needs replacement).
thats the same problem I ran into - I put an a non motorcraft thermostat - and the fan runs high - even on cold days - I bought an official thermostat and will be putting it in tomorrow. I hope that helps solve the problem.
@@andrewdarrell please update. Especially when it gets warmer.
I’ve changed out the thermostat to the motocraft one from ford dealer. And no high fan sound anymore! I’ve driven it for several hours and all is well!
Thank you Sir.
Perfect! Your awesome thx
No life story. No reading of his diary. Just straight to f’ing point without saying a single word! This man is a RUclips DIY GOD!! Thank you
Thanks steve
Do you not have a speaking voice
Hate that cooling system, buy the Ford Thermostat and the o-ring goes after the thermostat goes in.
Nuff said
appreciate it
Thanks man
Thank you. That was a tough one to find without your "map".
I'm just curious I noticed coolant in your Reservoir but when you opened the thermostat housing not a drop came out how do you empty the coolant from the engine and not have it leak down from the reservoir or top part of the engine
There’s a drain at the bottom of the radiator
Is it better to set the thermostat with less threshold temperature for keep engine with less working temperature? If yes, how to do that?
Not really. The ecm its been programmed to calculate the injections fuel. At around 180 degrees. It will like if you take the thermostat out. Will take longer. To the engine get to the right temperature so fuel mixture. Will be rich Thats my 2 cent
Should you replace the thermostat too if you're going to replace the water pump?
Most definitely
Absolutely awesome! No 15 min of bullshit self-promotion and bla bla bla that is not needed. Simple to the point. Thanks!
That's sad that my 2016 f150 platinum 3.5 eco doesn't have it at that location. Starting to think if i should just take off one of the hoses at the bottom of the radiator.😢
Same with my 2015 5.0...I guess this dude has the little engine? What did you end up doing? I hate disturbing hoses that don't need disturbed
@@wyomatt this shop(take-6) sucked all/most of the coolant out and added fresh coolant.
Anyone know what the metal t on top of the thermostat housing is called?
Heater hose y pipe
Nice... A man of few words, but great pictures. Does the thermostat come with a new gasket?
no
@@dcmkcbbq thank you...
@@tonypitsacota2513 Np, btw, I found it easier to lay on the ground to get to the lower bolt on the thermostat housing instead of using the braille method. Also if you get coolant on any of the belts, make sure to thoroughly flush them with water. Coolant can make the belt slip.
@@dcmkcbbq :) Cool, thank you.
Do i detect a tone of sarcasm? Lol . .Thanks.
well done.
Thanks
My kind of video. No words all action
Did you drain the coolant? Thanks in advance
I’m wondering the same thing . He didn’t do it in the video
Should just grunt and point like a caveman
Steve, great video thanks! I know its rare, but I had my cooling system tested and it came back indicating the T-stat housing was damaged. Any videos on how to replace the housing?
What that plastic elbow called coming out from the bottom of the coolant reviser tank
Heater hose assembly w/ quick connect is all I could find as far as name of the part.
How to change coolant Ford F-150 platinums plzz help me ❤️ I followed you to more vid
how do i know when i need more fluid
Is it that small red circle at the end of your video?
in typical ford fashion its in a crappy location (over the crossmember) and draining it is a mess...God forbid it be a few inches over
Does the plug screw all the way out? I can see where the fluid drains through the little port,, which is an obvious bitch because you're laying right underneath it, but I'm hesitant to back mine all the way out for fear that the plug will come all the way out too
AND AS TYPICAL WITH THIS GUY, NO ANSWER TO YOUR 3 YEAR OLD QUESTION. WHEN I CHANGED MY FLUID, I WAS ONLY ABLE TO ADD 1 GALLON TO THE MIN MARK, AND IT SHOWED FULL. WHY DOES THE TRUCK NOT TAKE THE FULL 4 GALLONS?
Presented by a mime... Thanks MIME
For the 3.5 non turbo?
Idk why but my 2018 does not have it in that location. Just spent an hour under the truck with your video and I do not see that drainage plug
Did you find it? I’m trying to find mine on my 2018 as well
