I take it the borders on the sides and squished horizontal image during the games because the hdmi thinks it’s outputting to a 16:9 or was just the aspect ratio on the specky? I think on the a500 mini there was options to change how much games filled the screen ? love to see you playing some a500 mini games on the crt at some point

Joysticks are terrible for most spectrum games :p pad always.

The Speccy was my first computer and it had the first game I completed 'Highway Encounter'.

Would like to set one up on my android Yoga tab via the cheap Amazon capture card and usb camera pro app.

You should be able to play the Actionware phaser games through WHDLoad, just check the options, I think most phaser games have been patched to work with both phasers now. Also you can get a Sega Master System phaser and modify it, or get a little adapter plug, and it will work on the Amiga too.

I remember the Konix Speedking was so comfortable to hold. And the diagonals were great for Fist and Barbarian. Both great games. These days i prefer modern homebrews such as OOZE, Savage Princess, Vampire Vengeance, Bloktris, and Aliens Neo Plasma, to name a few. And it's great this unit comes with some homebrews. I'd prefer to add my own carousel games to build a new firmware such as what i can do on the c64 with the c64 maxi tool. Sure it's a lot of work collecting all the pictures and getting the game information, but it really adds a personal touch to your device i believe. Maybe in the near future it will be hackable?

I think the Amiga full-size is the holy grail to be honest, yet i strongly feel it will cost way more than this Speccy does. Real Amigas are so hard to keep running, so a plug play device will appeal to hard core and casual fans. As for this Speccy, it's the best clone you'll get for this price.

Never had one but used to look at the Timex Sinclair in computer magazines at $99 CAD and dreamed of having one. Preordered the Retro Spectrum and its on the way to Canada. I appreciate your video and looking forward to see if the games are playable in NTSC mode as I don't own any TV/Monitors that output PAL in both video and sound. Subscribed.

i love my spectrum mini but this dickhead twitch streamer hated them so much he bashed them in his stream title. why can't people just let others enjoy how they want to play games? i unsubbed him!

I can still remember vividly getting out the ZX Spectrum from my uncles drawer while he was not around and playing games like Transylvanian Tower, Chuckie Egg, Chequered Flag, The Alchemist and Atic Atac... those were the days.... was pretty difficult to get away with secretly playing for long as the damn thing would heat up and my uncle would check his drawer when he came back :D

I got mine delivered last night. The delivery person left it in the front porch without ringing the bell.

Glad I pre-ordered mine now. Hopefully more units will be available soon.

Do you have to point your controller at the gamestick, or does the signal bounce off the projector screen and pickup the gamestick that way?

It's beautiful, but what the hell is one cooling fan and Only being on balanced mode.

It would be nice if it had a USB keyboard for it like the one for the Amiga 600 or 500 or 1200 to connect to it.

I thought the game was terrible. Every boss fight was almost exactly the same mechanics and the stages weren't just similar, they were literally reused multiple times with no additional game mechanics beyond jump and throw. Play something like Byte the Bullet which is less expensive and you will see a massive difference in game quality. You didn't get to the worst part of the game which is the later stages which are just the first stages again but intentionally frustrating just to lengthen the play time.

Reminds me of when I saw a Front 242 album in a record store for the first time. Those were the days.
