The weather kicked my rear on Ross Barnett but still pulled off a surprising 5th place. Learned a lot, and I was definitely out of my comfort zone.

hiding from the wind catching crappie on Grenada Lake
I wish my fishing partner had the energy Harlan does!
How fast were you trolling?
Drew.... when did you get Crappie Brakes? Were the Paddles just not cutting it for you?🤔🤔🤔
I have had them for several months now and the paddles are still being utilized when the wind gets heavy just had to go ahead and get the breaks to try to stay on top of the big crappie in the tournaments
I can tell the stability isn't there after removing mine in high winds as well. But the brakes do their thing. Best to ya. Now GOE MAKE SUM MUNAYE..🤑🤑🤑🤑
Andrew, what is your current Go Pro set up? Which camera do you have and what mount is that? Any suggestions on how many batteries to have? Would be a great short video to make of your filming setup for folks that would like to get started with filming boat/fishing content. Very good set up for making these videos!
Absolutely I will to try to get a video of my setup but I have tried several methods there are pros and cons to each but if your just wanting to have fun with it my advice is what you can afford and not put yourself in a bind for.
What date is the tournament at Okatibbee?
It was today 3-23-24
Get all the fun out of that sonar you can because in the next 2 to 3 years I believe that the states DNRs will cut the crill limits on crappie so drastically and I would not be surprised if they also didn’t come up with a slot too protect those 2 and 3 pounders from hit the grease kudos for you turning those big fish lose but you are the exception not the norm
I understand that completely and if the biologists and wildlife specialist deem it necessary to lower limits or place additional slot limits in place then I will only agree with them and abide by the rules set forth. I believe that a lot of anglers are learning more about the fish due to livescope and agree conservation practices such as releasing more fish especially the bigger fish. All of the guides I talk to on Grenada strongly suggest this to their clients. Also if you have not heard of crappie forever I suggest looking into their website and at what efforts they are taking for the conservation of crappie. All we can do is continue to have these conversations and bring awareness to the conservation of not only the crappie but all of our wildlife.
@@accarpenter88 thank you for replying back well I think absolutely right about guides having the right attitude about catch and release and that’s a good thing but the problem is it’s not just guides that are buying these sonars I think the development of this technology will go down as the single worst thing to happen to freshwater fishing for all species of fish
What's your long rod of choice?
My rod of choice is going to be the 18ft BnM black diamond. I believe it has enough back bone for the length but is not so stiff as to loose any sensitivity. Paired with 20lb sniping braid line it is very sensitive. I also have a problem of trying to set the hook like I’m after a 10lb bass and black diamond has enough give so I don’t rip the hook from the fishes mouth. I hope this helps, but if 18 ft is too long the BnM blue diamond in shorter lengths is also a great choice
Lol unbelievable enjoy watching your videos! Is that a 16’’ graph ?
Thank you and no I am using an 8412 garmin
You using a 8616? If so, do you like it?
The next time I am able to upgrade I will be going with the 8616, but right now I am using the 8412 and it is a big upgrade over the 1022 I started out with.
Nice,no 3 pounders but those 2 pounders look mighty good
Yes sir it’s always a blast to feel that rod thump, no matter if it’s a 9 inch fish or a 3lb fish.
The last time I was at Grenada lake I was supposed to let you know if I found the crappie but it was very slow and i didn't find any till my last day there
Some days can be very slow and I have found that those are the days the fish are most active right before sunset
Very nice crappies what are the two things back there by your motor are those brakes
Yes I have power poles with crappie brakes attached to them and I also have drift paddles on the power poles that I sometimes use to slow down when the wind is really pushing the boat hard
Man this brings back touching memories with this. I stayed 2 Miles away on Old Canton Rd and use to fish the heck out of Ross Barnett. That lake just started getting the National News it deserves as Forward Facing Technology has came out. It just use to be known for people in the state but mainly the area just like Grenada. Congrats and I'm 1 of those 5 Thumbs up.
Awesome thank you sir and it is an awesome lake I plan on being back on it soon.
Thinking about coming up in a couple weeks and spider rigging with my brother. Any particular areas you recommend in late February? I'm assuming creek runs? Thanks
That would definitely be my suggestion and to try the flats off to the sides of the creek mouths feeding the lake.
How do you fish 8 rods for 1 person??
Depends on the lake rules. Some lakes only allow 4 poles per person but they are all set to a depth and the holders hold the rods. You are watching rod tips to see when you get a bite slowly trolling around the lake. Sometimes it does get fun when you get bites on multiple rods at the same time.
I'm just amazed at how much they draw the lake down and fast it fills back up. My home lake is Fork in Texas and when they drew it down this summer it took 6 months to bring it back up.
It’s every year and by the middle of march I plan to be livescoping crappie off the tops of those stumps
Wow! May have to reschedule a trip planned there for end of Feb. Definitely unfishable currently. What lake level does it need to be to use ramps?
the main lake should be up by then and very fishable just not all the way back up graysport or skuna side but February is my favorite time of the year to chase slabs and there should be plenty of water to do so in the main lake. I wouldn’t try to put my boat in the main landing until it’s over 200 feet above sea level.
Wow that is crazy low I love all your videos have you ever thought about doing guided trips I'm from Alabama and would love to fish with you sometime soon as deer season gets over lol
Thank you and I’m sorry but I’m not a guide. In Mississippi you have to have a guide licenses and outside of work I don’t have enough time to do that and fish tournaments. Plus I think it may take some of the fun away if I start making it a side hustle.
@@accarpenter88 I certainly understand that, I've only been once to Grenada in a guided trip it was fun but I didn't get a 3 pounder that I was hoping for.I know I'm throwing this out there but I would love to hook up one weekend and come fish with you. Id be glad to talk to you that way you could get to know me. Anyways be safe and have a good weekend.
Very nice congrats little man
Thank you
Awesome and nice buck for the little man!! Congrats to y’all both!!
Thank you
Way to go, Harlan!
How much are those
Call PTG outdoors and they can hook you up or check BnMpoles.com
How's the bass fishing down there on that lake? I grew up on Sardis, but I've never fished Grenada. It's not a far drive for me coming from Memphis. I'd like to hear what your thoughts are on the lake. I know it's a lot bigger than Sardis.
I really don’t know I have caught a few ok large mouth bass while crappie fishing and know that some nice ones have come out of Grenada but I have never targeted them, I wish I could give you more information on the large mouth.
Update one of my co workers says spring time on north side of lake next to where some of the creeks feed in can be really good, and surprise I have targeted the same area for crappie in the spring. Hope this helps
I'll keep supporting ya... GETTUM... They always biting... 👍given.. Edited... Ewwwwww... Weeeee.. Dat Rod Bend at 1:18 GAWT-TA-MIGHTY... How many did you end up with?
Great video👍
Thank you. I’m just trying to learn and get better as I go.
Looks like a pretty weak rod
Negative that’s the BnM blue diamond 14ft and it’s a great rod I caught a lot of big crappie with it and it is very sensitive. I have since upgraded to the BnM black diamond 16 foot and it’s just that much better with the same sensitivity
liked it before i watched great times on the creek
Thank you sir and yes it was a great time I am just doing my best to spend time with my son and teach him how great the outdoors and being a sportsman is.
Channel will always amount to nothing, because you will not make the changes you need to make. Talk and show, talk and show. Watch Cole and Jay. Shy and introverts will not be successful. Not trying to be mean, just helpful. Want you to be successful. God bless you.
I understand and for my videos that are just fishing days I am working on that but for the tournament days the video is just something I’m running in the back ground I’m not gonna let it get in the way of the tournament
@@accarpenter88 Doesn’t interfere. Just be yourself, and instead of talking low to your partner talk loud so everyone can hear. To hold a fish so others can see it is not a hindrance either. Maybe you are happy as you are. So be it.
Great Job Crappie Brother. People pay for Tournaments that don't catch 7 keeper Crappie all the time. Way to go... 👍
very nice!
So relaxing 👍🏻👍🏻
I had to revisit this video because I've only used mine 1 freaking time. I have to get out and experiment with them but I fish Timber more than anything else and in Timber dropping the Poles means they snag and drag the timber risking damage. I have to find time to try and drift Flats etc for Crappie. That's not my strong suit to even do. I think I'm missing out on somethings with this product. Right now they are just on the boat. Thanks for this video again.
I understand the fear of not using them in timber but I use mine in the trees all the time and they catch trees I just try to dodge them best I can and when they do snag or rub one just gently push off of it plus I’m just slowly trolling through the trees so it shouldn’t hurt them much
Just seen you in triple stop in Winona and my husband just loved your boat!
Thank you and if y’all have any questions about crappie fishing I will do my best to help
Get you 2 Gallon Jugs and freeze them Iced Over. Set them in each Livewell. Keep 4 fish in each Livewell max. If they are not your biggest keep going. You have to get your boat more organized to eliminate the fumbling around. Don't fill your Livewell at the ramp the water is dirtier. Don't fill the Livewell until you catch a fish. You can watch the fish & tell but after you catch them don't put the G Juice in immediately. That's the jolt they need after they have got acclimated. Last thing... Keep your Livewell water lever under your aerator if you have one that spouts. Why they bubbles are Oxygen that helps. What do I know though. I'm a "Dot Chaser" not a "Fisherman". LOL..
Yazoo Ms... Haaaaa... My kids are from there..🤣Did you get to Pre-Fish or just show up and fish?
We were able to drive down and fish the saturday before and that is the only 2 times we have been on that lake
@@accarpenter88 Then if you boated 15 fish or more & weighed 7 you can't be mad at that. I'm quite sure some people didn't weight 7 fish. Those are the people I really poke fun at. IF YOU PAY TO FISH A CRAPPIE TOURNAMENT AND CAN'T BOAT 7 FISH YOU NEED TO BE HOME. 🤣😆 Now if your weight just isn't there then that's still respectable. If you are going to be making videos as a stranger I'm going to ride your tail bone because you should be top 15 with 30-50 boats. Sum of these guys are FISHERMAN.. The majority are their for the bravado, shirt & boat decals posing. GETTUM ANDREW!👍
MULES... Nice.... Fair well in your tournament.
love the chest cam view man. good stuff!
Sand bass?
Nope just another white crappie
That's a massive crappie
You should see when she starts boat flipping 2lb crappie
