I'm honestly still not sure what that Alister ending is meant to even suggest: it's not just the green eye, you can see the Master Detective's reflection in it. Something definitely changed in GrandMA's writing plans after this game since they did something entirely different with the whole new timeline business 3 games later. Yeah I always found it weird that this game revisits the same games already revisited in Moths to a Flame, I think that contributed a lot to the burnout I've seen in the negative reviews of this game. I also personally wish they did a crossover like Rewind where the characters from different cases actually interact with each other. Also, I think the way you've done the thumbnails is good, it easily distinguishes between the commentary and non-commentary videos.

I definitely have a soft spot for the I SPY computer games and am excited to see you go through them. Spooky Mansion was also my first HOG experience (that I recall), and Treasure Hunt is still my favorite one of the bunch, but what really was a big event for me was that I really begged my parents to get me I SPY Mystery at the store, but they insisted I was too old for that one (I was around 9-10) and picked up MCF: Huntsville, instead. You could say that decision definitely had a big impact on me.

I always wondered what I was missing, not being able to play this (no DS), but seeing how you have to zoom in and move the screen around..omg, I can't even watch that never mind play it! I'd be hurling. Thanks for putting to rest my fear that I was missing a great game lol.

18:25 The hand with 2 fingers out has a snake around its wrist, so that's why the second tile has the snake. I think the fifth tile is just expected by process of elimination. Bit funny how three MCF games in a row have now ended on some reveal about Evelyn. You make a good point that it's a bit hard to care about Evelyn being possessed when we know very little about Evelyn in the first place. I would expect the next MCF game to immediately follow up on this game (how, no clue), but I wouldn't be surprised if the next MCF game was standalone and started with something like "MCF Agency Director Evelyn Ravenhearst Is Missing" but the Master Detective doesn't solve that mystery yet.

Yeah it's unfortunate a lot of the puzzles are reused from Fate's Carnival and (I think) Moths to a Flame. At least it shows GrandMA played these games, I guess more time was spent on the location graphics, which as you also said genuinely look really good. Also tbf Escape from Ravenhearst kind of does the same thing where every non-villain character is only relevant at the beginning and end

Eipix actually also had the same feature of being able to return to a missed collectible, although GrandMA does deserve credit for allowing the main and bonus games to be replayable under the same profile when Eipix never did in their 7 years of making HOPA games. The tarot cards are also the most creative collectible in the GrandMA games by far. Btw, MCF27's coming out on November 26 according to BFG's website

Correct me if I'm wrong, but is the location outside the police station literally the only time in the GrandMA games where the location slightly shifts based on where the mouse cursor is? If so, it's kind of a shame since I found it cool the first time I played The Harbinger but it just never shows up again to my knowledge. It's very nitpicky, but I feel it could add a bit more visual variety to the locations. Also, I appreciate your dedication getting the MCF playthroughs up, it's not gone unnoticed.

I love this game. There's also a similar game called The Amulet Of Dreams, which is also a really good game. I remember accidentally softlocking it.

The mix of original assets and pngs has that charm in the older MCF games which I really like as well

I do think that the future MCF games should revolve around the detective going around the world to solve the unsolved mysteries, it may feel like side stories but a major one.

This was such a good, spooky game. I do prefer the mobile ending, where the Banshee/Ice Lady is restored and her soul saved. The ending was a bit cheese, but. For it's time? Yeah. The Blair Witch influence is strong in this game, and that's not a bad thing. Thanks for posting this playthrough! I was happy to revisit parts of it (and remember how scares senseless I was by it).

I find it ironic that Eipix chose to have the very last puzzle of their final game be a match-3 minigame since they were acquired by a company (Playrix) known for making mobile match-3 games. It was a sign of their fate

Honestly for the last game ever made by Eipix, it's more solid than some of the other HOPA games they made. I managed to guess the girl was Magnolia before the reveal (she wasn't shown to drown with her parents after all) and got excited, then got disappointed when Magnolia does literally nothing for the rest of the game

36:20 I've played the Steam version of this game (which is the Standard's Edition), and I can tell you clicking Play after beating the game just skips straight to the secret page. There's no secret hidden object scenes and morphing objects of course, but the game just automatically rewards you the secret page the Collector's Edition forces you to put more work into getting (which ironically makes the Steam version superior imo). I didn't even realize the final page at the timestamp was missing from the journal in my copy until I looked the game up. They definitely screwed up the order of these pages. Also, you're probably right the high production costs and Shadow Lake's low ratings might've contributed to Big Fish Studios being shut down, which is a shame because that game wasn't that bad.
