#005 #heinonenguitars Cool back story with this guitar, T. Drew Heinonen (Drew) Built this during his time with Jim Olson and although it is based around OM specs I do hear a little extra magic with tunes in mind. I have a SJ Model on the way being built from Drew, but wanted to share this wonderful guitar I had the opportunity of owning from older recordings with it's high sustain and rich not...

Taylor 814ce Comparison Cocobolo VS Brazilian Shootout

Here is a good comparison for the discussion Cocobolo VS Brazilian from the same guitar builder and body size. These Taylor's are older with the same bracing at the time. Golden Era respected by many Taylor players. Enjoy! 2002' 814ce LTD (Sitka/Cocobolo) 1999' 814ce 25th Anniversary (Sitka/Brazilian) Elixir Nanoweb 12-53's X-Y Mic's KAD e70 (Pair)

Whats the name of that song great playing
Hi, Thank you! this was sometime ago I was just feeling out the pedal and going on the fly. I may revisit soon again.
棒
The cutaway causes a slightly drop of bass and lower mids in most cases. ... so this comparison is a little unfair imo
Nice CS
By comparison, the Olson is much warmer and larger sounding. The characteristic Olson midrange sparkle is present in both. The Heinonen is clearer but sounds stiffer and newer
Oh, It's so nice comparison! Both of all are great, But I love Olson little bit. cause I've olson too. Haha. I like this video!
Thank you, I have to start playing more again.
The top wood of the two is not the same. I own the Lakewood 32ce and it took quite some time before the real sound developed. It had a sparkling tone to begin with but is now full and warm. Very articulate.
This was a super fun comparison today, T. Drew Heinonen SJ along side of an Olson SJ. Let me know your thoughts with sound comparison, I find the Heinonen is very clear were as the Olson has a little more roundness and chime. Both very stunning Guitars!
Is the Applegate guitar similar to olson in sound?
Listening through headphones. I preferred the sound of the cocobolo. Wow!
Prefer the Woody tones of the Cocobolo, perhaps the age of the Guitars helps too
Dat cocobolo
Sounds wonderful. What a great Christmas present 🇺🇸
Thank you!
its be cool if it had a slip clutch so you could just wind it until it stopper
I have the JT model Drew built for me Taylor had the abalone like yours made by Jim Olson I have just fitted a LR Baggs lb 6 same as JT has in all his guitars, Drew is an advanced thinker not just a fabulous Luthier he leaves the end pin loose for a 1/2 inch 1/4 jack The Instrumental tune you were playing What is that called ?JT seems to always play that before starting certain songs, dont be hard on yourself, that nice finger work of James,s tune whatever its called I learned all Taylors stuff 20 years ago , listening to you makes me want to revisit top work my friend , greetings from Down Under
Thanks for the reply, I had recently sold this guitar but it was a wonderful OM by Drew. That intro is Like Everyone She Knows (JT) Take Care
Old thread ... sorry to arrive late. So well done. A big thank you. I enjoyed that immensely.
I like the Brazilian on strumming., it's ringing
I prefer the cocobolo. The are both nice, but the rosewood is a little more tinny to me. These comparisons are always hindered by the fact that the tops are new and not opened up. It's apples to apples, but both of these guitars will sound better in a year than they do now.
The dog could care less.
The Brazilian rosewood seems to be brighter and have more separation between the treble and bass. It seems to have a little bit more bass as well. The cocobolo seems to be more warm, has a more pronounced midrange than the Brazilian. I still still can’t say that’s always the case since this is my first time hearing a comparison between the two. I have compared numerous Indian rw and Brazilian rw and personally I like Indian more. From my in person comparisons between Indian and Brazilian, the Indian rw usually has more bass. The cocobolo guitar I have on the other hand has more bass than my guitar made of Indian rw. Possibly being because of the bracing differences though
Lakewood esce molto più aperta e con maggiore sustain
wow, this sounds fantastic!
Thank you, Great guitar for sure.
You should add the Entire Song.
Thank you, i may revisit this song again soon. take care
Excellent
Damn good...!
기타가 뭔지 적어주셔야 뭘알지..
I feel Taylor is balanced for all purpose playing style. Lakewood is better for fingerstyle but weaker for strumming compared to taylor
what is the name of the first song? do you have tab? thanks.
The Brazilian rings like a bell. Fantastic guitar.
Hope you got the okay for doing this ..
I have talent skillz but can't afford that
The Taylor sounds like a Topas, the Lakewood sounds like Brilliant.....
The way the mids mix with the highs on the cocobolo one is fantastic and it seems to project a bit better.. The BRW however seems to have deeper lows which may be very pleasing to some players. Both seem to have great overtone content though.
This is a good articulation of what I am able to hear.
old taylor!!!! wow >_<
Taylor for strumming, Lakewood for finger picking
Lakewoods yes...
Hey man! Can I ask how long Lakewood's custom order process took?
Hi Actually, found this one here in the US used a couple years back. If you email Lakewood they usually are very responsive when I had a few questions. Take care
the Lakewood sounds flat compared to the furch
That's mainly because the two guitars have different shapes/sizes.. The Lakewood is a dreadnought and therefore less crisp
I think this is really more of a "Rosewood vs Cocobolo" than a "Taylor vs Lakewood" comparison. Comparing the same tone woods might be more useful.
Taylor
Beautiful. Love hearing Flint with acoustic guitar :)
Thank you, taking the time to reply. Your pedals are the best I have ever had the pleasure of playing looking forward to learning the Flint with my acoustics.
@@czorr1997 Thank you so much :) Can't wait to hear more!
did you pre-cut those strings?
M C Yes, pre-cut to length look up Taylor guitars string change method. I’ve been doing it for several years now
@@czorr1997 wow I have never thought to pre-cut the strings for those kinds of pegs lol you just changed my life forever I think 😆
Justin Bernardi thanks for looking, great method after you do this a few times you will eyeball it for length making sense. Just watch the pins I have a few guitars that take extra care holding down.
@@czorr1997 yeah I know what ya mean, my electric strat has the vintage in line tuning pins so I've been eyeballing length for years, so much easier. Pre-cut is the way to go hands down.
Which one do you prefer sound wise? Enjoy
czorr1997 I really like the coco I’ll sound. Seemed rich.
Thanks for the video!
Taylor sound looming. Take Lakewood this time.
The Lakewood has a lot more presence coming from the mids. Overall the sound is better suited to finger style and instrumentals, strummed is a good loud clear sound, possibly for bluegrass and rhythmic one guitar band. Finger style, the Taylor has good range but lacks the clarity and deep presence of of sound. However it has a nice scooped out mids great for vocal accompaniment when strummed.
